This is very true. It’s important to keep in mind that Fish who generate content in a vacuum without needing influence from others are rare. Just because a Fish lacks this innate content making ability doesn’t make them bad though. With the exception of content drivers, a Fish’s quality is largely dependent on the other Fish that surround them and how they are influenced by them.Wrong, this is another thing people romanticize. Season 1 had...Letty and Jon that's about it, Vance on rare occasion when he wasn't trying to play master manipulator "yeah" man. Everyone else was either nontent or did stuff too rare
Using Vance as an example, anytime he actually went out of his way to do something and therefore create content was due to his feelings towards Jon or Letty. Their actions spurred him to make content through scheming and manipulating. This made him a better Fish as a result. Remove either of them and Vance suddenly lacks purpose and becomes very boring.
This is the exact problem the final four had during season two. There wasn’t a single content driver to spur the Fish into action. It’s also why the earlier eliminations were so harmful. Fish like JC, Summer, Cole, and Jimmy, no matter your thoughts on them, gave the other Fish a reason to act out and do stuff. The moment they were removed all that momentum built up for days was lost and the Fish lacked purpose.
Production backed themselves into a corner during the final four and finale. They had no Fish who had a natural content making ability, and they subtly planted the idea into the Fish’s minds that doing things would result in their downfall. Fish like Tay, Trish, and TJ would be far more entertaining if they had another Fish to bounce off of. They didn’t have that.
