its almost always better to lose a reality show than win because the contracts mean the winner gets fuck all usually
The important thing is that the fishtank contestants aren't very well selected-for, because they just passed an arbitrary round of wiggers interviewing them and spent between just one week to six weeks demonstrating their value. But there's an underserved appetite for young, "rightoid" talent with the backswing on woke shit and especially with an election coming up that Trump is likely to win. Even though I'm not expecting any of these motherfuckers to get a show on Adult Swim or anything, the idea of one or two of them starting a career on connections made through Fishtank is not a moonshot.

Dysfunctional parents make Dysfunctional kids. Sad!

On a related note, Tim Heidecker must've been coping and seething to find out that Sam Hyde's doing successful with Fishtank. :story:
I’d imagine that probably happened back in season 1. Granite it wasn’t that popular but the fact that they crossed the finish line and still had fans wanting a second season and to find them probably made him upset.

It seems like we're going to get one of these people every season lol. Last season it was Aidan towards Josie, This season its Attractive Pneumonia with Tay. I don't mind it all that much, as the people who are obsessed with particular Fish keep tabs on them when nobody else cares. It'll die down by next season, then we'll get another one.
It's gonna be me (just kidding, unless there's a dude that one-ups Jimmy.) Yeah it's whatever, better to be kept in the loop, even if it's something mundane; sometimes a little sign of positive improvement for a Fish becoming functional and normal is a nice bit of refreshing news.

He's probably mad that Sam is still culturally relevant with a new, young fanbase while still retaining a large portion of his OG fanbase. Meanwhile Heideker is more of a Charls Carroll-esque figure, desperately clinging to his glory days to an old and dying fanbase.

It was like something out of a sketch show, sam and jet shaking their heads "why aren't they motivated to do anything" meanwhile everyone is starving. Nothing has done more to make me hate sam hyde than this season.
What should make you hate him more is the fact it was done for monetary gain, not as a comedic bit. They subordinated the costs of feeding the fish to the audience via loot crates and forced dates. I'd presume the only reason this scheme fell apart is because the new freeloaders like Oliver and Greg weren't pulling loot crates at regular intervals since it was highly unlikely that either Greg or Oliver were going to pull fans off from the final four fish by the time they got introduced. Even then, the contents of the loot crates were cheap as fuck, mainly bricks of ramen, a bag of potato chips and sometimes if the fish was lucky they got a can of soup. Very rarely would the fish get something nutritious enough to keep them healthy which is why TJ and Shinji fell apart during the final week.

Last season I remember the loot crates were fairly creative. There was that arc where Vance was getting plastic gold bricks because his daddy owns a mine, or that time they got condoms. It certainly wasn't stop-everything-this-will-be-nuts crazy but at least when you looked around a room you could spot loot crate items.

I don't know if it was something about how messy the house was or how bad the contents of the loot crates was but I don't remember them having anything besides food this time.

I always found it so weird how hard Sam went after Tim when he played no part in his shows cancellation. It ultimately was Adult Swim's parent company Turner broadcasting systems in response to the Bernstein hitpiece that got the show pulled not Adult Swim or anyone working there.

Sam himself said the vice president of Adult Swim Mike Lazzo loved the show and fought to keep it on air.

I might be retarded but didn’t he accuse Tim of being the one to start petitioning for the show’s removal. It’s been awhile since I saw that conversation go down.

i honestly assumed she was joking.

the story was that it was Tim and/or Eric Andre. Tim's gloating after the fact like that cunt that got Jimmy kicked off the show didn't help either. Tim also clearly hates anyone that "panders to the alt right" and was heavily anti-gamergate as well so he was always a pretty huge faggot. Pretty sure he's gone after Sven Stoffel for those animations mocking the Kliens and George Floyd too.

@Sicko Hunter is most likely right, it was probably a decision either made by whatever PR people they have or an extreme higher up. They saw the Bernstein piece and wanted to cut MDE off for optics.
iirc sam said he was a fan of Tim and Erick when he was making his first videos, it would make sense why he was so bitter.
Imagine you get fired from your dream job only to have the Janitor laugh at you on your way out.

Sam was a big Tim and Eric fan and his early MDE videos were heavily inspired by the editing style in it. I remember way back when the sub still existed people dug up old tweets from like 2011 of him desperately trying to get their attention. I think Sam definitely looked up to Tim as a comedic influence and felt betrayed by him being a gay leftist.

I don't think this ever happened. I don't think Tim has mentioned Sam a single time since they had that phone call years back. It's a one sided feud.

FWIW Sam was very anti-T&E in his reddit days. He responded very negatively when someone compared MDE to T&E, saying T&E was hollow and meaningless. On another occasion he spoke highly of DJ Doug Pound, who was the main editor of Awesome Show. Obviously early MDE and Awesome Show have a similar aesthetic, although Sam has always been more dogmatic with his content, compared to T&Es absurdism.

It does seem like Sam misdirected his anger towards Tim. Brett Gelman was the one obnoxiously campaigning against World Peace on Twitter. I don't remember if Tim ever spoke out against WP directly but he definitely retweeted Brett's kvetching and encouraged it. I wouldn't exactly say it was one sided. There were two clear sides: WP should be cancelled because of Sam or WP should be allowed to continue on another season. Tim had enough power at Adult Swim to potentially change the outcome but he chose Brett's side by feigning indifference. The "hey man, I don't have an opinion either way" attitude is something that drives Sam still to this day.

Anyone else get the feeling something really bad is going to happen to Jon eventually? Like he's going to get scammed out of his parents home or he's going to die showing off for one of his retarded alpha male videos? I've been thinking about that

I'll let @attractive_pneumonia write the Tayleigh POV because I know he's going to anyway - Tayleigh admitted again at the start of the stream that she wanted Jimmy and Greg to watch the digest with her because her drunk moment with Frank is in these, and the ending, and she wanted them for emotional support.
She definitely was in a funk watching the Greg or Frank bit and watching her elim and stuff, but I'll let AP cover that like I said.

On Jimmy's stream, he hopped off for a smoke, then came back and muted himself on their discord call to tell his stream that he got a call with some bad news and wanted to stop after the upcoming episode, but just said to Tayleigh that he's "dealing with some baloney" and was around to make jokes and comment throughout even though it looked like his face was melting off.

The "her heart is taken" bit had come up while he was gone so she asked him about it, and Jimmy explained that he heard her say she still has feelings for her ex during the show and Tayleigh explained she meant she just cares about him, not that she has feelings for him. Jimmy went ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

He watched through the Greg or Frank episode and offered the expected support (she was drunk, she was just trying to sit where she was already sitting, and a "yeah" to everything Tay was saying), then kept going into the last episode even though he looked very drained and chat was telling him he didn't have to keep going. He muted himself from the call and said even though he's going to end the stream as soon as he can that he would watch Tay's elim with her and the rest of the stream "because what kind of friend would I be if I leave her hanging?"

jimmy has a good soul
