Jon is the only one they can wring entertainment out of. This room is a microcosm of the show. Jon interacting with someone so there's something to focus on, Josie being mentally-unwell in a corner, Damian trying to figure out how to shit himself, everyone else just sort of exists. Then Sam is on top poking them with a stick so the audience doesn't tune out.
