The first games I can remember myself playing were the Super Mario Bros. 1-3 when I was a young child. Never had I felt something magical in my hands until I played those games. Thanks to my cousin for giving me his two Nintendo consoles and box full of games.

Back then video games weren't as popular with older teens and young adults in the 90's as they are today. In other words older gamers were seen as "geeky" and childish because most popular games were marketed to children. But that was good for me. Since I was a young gamer who needed to purchase games and what not cheaply. Sucks it's not like that for today's gamers because you could easily purchase used games that were released a few months ago real cheap because the previous owner got bored of it and wanted to sell it only for a few dollars.

the first game i have memories of playing was Aero Blasters/Air Buster for the mega drive/genesis

fuck shmups used to be rad, an alien 9/11 nuke happens on the first fuckin level

I was never great at them but one of the things the Mega Drive/Genesis did exceptionally well was shmups.

Shmups lack of prominence as a genre today compared to the 16-bit era is a major reason "Big Nostalgia" generally overlooks most of the Sega Genesis's vast library and only ever seems to focus on Sonic the Hedgehog and maybe Phantasy Star IV as reasons retro gamers should play the Genesis at all.

Hellfire and Zero Wing! That is all.

Is Zero Wing a good shmup or do people mainly remember it for the cutscenes from a certain meme?

My mom has a picture of me as an infant curled around this thing while sleeping. It's cute until you realize that it foretells a chilling prophecy of the creature I would eventually become.

First game I ever played? Oooh, that's a tough one ... If I had to be 100% honest it was probably something like "Hunt the Wumpus" on DOS. Even a little kid could understand that game easily enough. But the first one I remember was the original Doom.

Doom, Heretic, and later Hexen and Hexen II were the big four games of my childhood. I have fond memories of being up way past my bedtime, lurking behind my older brother's chair as he and my dad deathmatched in Doom II. Nobody caught me until I started laughing at a particularly cool kill.

Waitaminute ... FPS games ... Kiwi Farmer ... dear God! Bob Chipman was right! I DID 9/11!

My father told me that my introduction to video games was Mario Kart 64 and I do actually remember playing that game when I was young.

A pirated hack room of I believe Donkey Kong Jr that replaced the sprites with Pokemon sprites from the first game. A friend had it on his famiclone console, I think it was a Polystation or something like that.

I believe it was either Donkey Kong on the NES or the original Duck Hunt.

First games I remember playing were those Windows Entertainment Pack games. Pipe Dream and Rodent's Revenge.

First game I owned was Day of the Tentacle.

My first game was Raptor: Call of the Shadows. It was a pretty decently received shoot em up that was developed in the same office at the same time as Doom 2, one of the most influential games on earth.

I guess I also played Earthworm Jim around this time so I did have one cult classic

My first game ever was likely either Super Mario Bros. or Duck Hunt. The first game I can actually remember beating and playing completely on my own is Yoshi's Story. Mario 64 was a little too rough for my idiot childbrain and I was fucking terrified of the zombies in Ocarina lol

The first game I ever played was Star Castle by Cinematronics a very long time ago...I must've been five or something like that.

I was on holiday somewhere rubbish and we were in some sort of big ballroom type thing, but in the corner I spotted it...I'd never seen anything as beautiful as those vector lines, it was like magic.

Oldest I remember are NES games, probably Super Mario Bros since it was a pack-in. I just barely remember playing it, must've been like 2 or 3 tops.

Mega Man 1 at 3 or 4 years old, did not go far in Cut Man stage

At some point when I was a kid we got an NES and had burger time, bubble bobble and mario 3, so I'm pretty sure it was one of those. Guess which one I played the most.
