Disaster Fireworks Warehouse Explosion in Beirut - Spoiler: It wasn't Fireworks it was 2,500+ tons of High-Explosive Ammonium Nitrate

Beirut, Lebanon (CNN)

A large explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, damaging buildings and offices around the city.
The source of the explosion was a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the port in Beirut, the state-run National News Agency reported.
A red cloud hung over the city in the wake of the blast as firefighting teams rushed to the scene to try to put out the fire.
Local news reported multiple people were wounded in the incident.
This is a breaking story, more to follow.

That actually makes more sense. This was something so explosive that it put out most of the fire. PEPCON (mentioned above) didn't even manage that. Plus it takes a lot of energy in a shockwave to create a cloud like that.

This was one of the earliest nukes. Modern nukes are even worse.

If I remember correctly the Texas City explosion was the worst single event loss of firefighter lives in the US, until 9/11. It pretty much wiped out two departments. There Famously was a shiny Brand new fire truck, this was it’s first fire. They found the back half of it 5 miles away in the next county. They never found the front.

I’m thinking we’re going to hear a lot of those type stories from today.

Number of deaths can easily be over 100. But we'll never know the exact number, because of some difficulties.

Remember Oklahoma bombing? Authorities collected all bodies but somehow there was also 1 additional leg. Yes, just 1 leg and nothing else. It's still unknown who owned that leg.

It's hard to imagine what is happening in Beirut right now. Everybody probably are calling to their relatives, friends, coworkers trying to be sure that they are all ok. Unfortunately many of them are dead and some just disappeared. Just bits of flesh scattered all over Beirut. It's horrifying.
