Beirut, Lebanon (CNN)

A large explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, damaging buildings and offices around the city.
The source of the explosion was a major fire at a warehouse for firecrackers near the port in Beirut, the state-run National News Agency reported.
A red cloud hung over the city in the wake of the blast as firefighting teams rushed to the scene to try to put out the fire.
Local news reported multiple people were wounded in the incident.
This is a breaking story, more to follow.

Attaching all of the videos I grabbed from this guys twitter just now as well, here's one of them:

Here are some links to other posts in the thread with more content, you may need to go to the posts directly to see the media:

Couple more angles of the explosions, seems everyone in Beirut holds their phone vertically. Buckle up for a very delayed boom in the second video.

Here's a different angle. Notice how the guys recording it say "Allahu Akbar".

EDIT: Direct embed

Found this slowmo of the explosion in which you can see the fireball and airblast more clearly

I think this is just a slowed down version of this that I grabbed from twitter (https://twitter.com/saadmohseni/status/1290678176574779395):

Also this for another, closer angle (https://twitter.com/realdavereilly/status/1290690743217119235):

And you retards thought putting it all in one place is a good idea? :story:

It was explosive sodium nitrate holy shit

What remains of the dock:

There’s a radiation spike picked up near Italy/scicily. Let me try to archive this or take a screenshot

I know that there are several vids on here but here's a 2+ minute concatenation of multiple angles and some security camera footage of blast sites.

Translation: Preliminary security information talks about 2,700 tons of confiscated ammonia in the port exploded during the process of welding a small hole to prevent theft

yeah mushroom cloud doesn't mean nuke, it means concentrated boom
it just so happens that nukes are one of the more commonly filmed ways to concentrate your boom

What people miss is the main purpose of nukes is to put the Boom in a small deliverable package. Seeing as it’s difficult to launch an entire warehouse of tnt at a target.

togive some perspective. That West Texas Fertilizer plant explosion I posted a page or two back was 300 tons of Ammonium Nitrate. At 2600 tons, woof!

I think the big question here is going to be whether this is an incredibly stupid fertilizer mis-handling incident? (It is a port after all, this shit happens). Or somebody deliberately set it off. Calling it some sort of bomb is debatable since we are talking about what is likely 2600 tons of dry material that is the core component of said bomb. Not exactly portable. Strategically the only thing you are going to be able to accomplish with an explosive that large would be to blow up someplace you already control. In terms of being a useful weapon it’s on par with the Thermonuclear Hand Grenade.

The ATF could not figure out why the West Texas explosion happened, so they ruled that the fire was intentionally set. I don't think they ever knew who that could be, though.

Don’t give them any ideas. That’s long been a Coast Guard nightmare scenario. They nearly had an ammunition ship explode in ?New York Harbor in 1944. But the Coast Guard and Fire Dept had the good sense to quickly tow it out to sea and sink it.
Massive balls on whoever was brave enough to attach tow ropes to a burning ammo ship.

Holy shit after seeing that video that does NOT look like a fireworks explosion

From a video two years ago:

The Israeli prime minister said the port was one of the sites being used by Hezbollah to host missiles. Another site is underneath the soccer stadium, and the third's adjacent to the airport.

🤔

Are there any vital ports/cities/aiports/etc in the ME that Israel claims isn't housing Hezbollah or Iranian nuclear material?
At this point Israel could fire rockets randomly and they'd always hit a supposed depot.

Nobody is talking about this angle, but the Port of Beirut is pretty much the only major port in Lebanon. The economy in Leb was already fuckity fuck fucked, but now they have no import route.

Was mentioned earlier there were protests going on in Beirut from October to present time over the currency shitting the bed.

February:
Hezbollah's popularity seen waning as Lebanese protests continue

June:
Protests grip Lebanon as currency tanks

Whether it was a freak accident (why was there so much confiscated ammonia chilling in the port, anyway, if that report's true?) or probable cause, this could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Expect Hezbollah to retaliate if they have power in Lebanon.

Almost as if Israel does fire rockets randomly, and claims the depots post hoc.

Who's going to stop them? Iran? Syria?

Israel's entire attitude is "They cry out as they strike you". They could JDAM a Lebanese hospital right now, and they'd get away with it by claiming Iran did it to America.

If I remember correctly the Texas City explosion was the worst single event loss of firefighter lives in the US, until 9/11. It pretty much wiped out two departments. There Famously was a shiny Brand new fire truck, this was it’s first fire. They found the back half of it 5 miles away in the next county. They never found the front.

This thing reminded me of the Port Chicago explosion.

While it was 1,800 tons of high-explosive and not ANFO, the effect was much the same. It vaporized the Victory ship being loaded, tossed another some 500ft, and there's even tinfoil theories I've heard that it was nuclear too.

To quote from the Warzone:

Update: 7:05 PM EST—

Lebanon's Prime Minister Hassan Diab has now said that 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, which was confiscated six years ago and had been left in an unsecured warehouse ever since was responsible for the secondary explosion that has caused untold destruction. He has vowed to punish whoever is responsible for creating this situation, which was clearly a massive accident waiting to happen.

So they were sitting on a ready-made fertilizer bomb, several kilotons worth. He's going to be looking for a long time; the people responsible being very far away, probably in very small pieces.

All that sitting in a warehouse and terrorists never touched it?
Well, that’s what you get from guys trained by the CIA

Great to see that Lebanon is becoming more westernized and replacing corruption-related waste with bureaucratic waste.

SIX YEARS, in an unsecured warehouse? Well that seems less of an "if" and more of a "when" scenario. And the when is now. Though I don't know much about fertilizer. How (or if) do you go about destroying that or neutralizing it's destructive power? Is storing it the only way you can really deal with it?
