The modern internet absolutely refuses to tolerate the idea of deeper bonds that aren't romantic.
Ike may not flirt with women but he never does it with other man either. If we have to make this about sexualities, I think it'd be actually pretty reasonable to assume Ike is asexual but lefties never care about that specifically, it always has to be gay or trans.
And then Priam in Awakening happened anyway lmao
To be honest, as someone on your side about Gay Ike, I’ve always found this argument unconvincing. I think it just comes across as innately hostile.

For me it’s that being Gay is rare and so it’s unlikely and so needs stronger narrative inferences behind it than just a lot of missed opportunities. Because Missed Opportunities don’t convey any kind of narrative intent. It’s not how you’d organically write a gay, and the people who want Ike to be gay like the idea of an otherwise “straight-presenting” guy being gay. So they want him to be gay.

other than maybe Lief I haven’t played Theracia
Oh a bit of spoilers, he does: In the ending segment, he tells Nanna that after the war, he will look for Lachesis (Nanna's mother) to ask her directly the hand of her daughter. It's pretty adorable, even if it comes out of nowhere lol

Thinking about it, Ike really is that special of a character because he's just a guy:
-He's the only Commoner* lord in the series
-He's never considered to be a prophesied chosen one unlike many other MCs
-Ragnell is his exclusive endgame weapon, but lore-wise, anyone could wield it (as long as they are good with swords)
-The only special thing about him besides his talent is that he's the son of Greil, who was a leader of a mercenary group.
-Doesn't get a lover in both games in any capacity.

*Alm gets to be revelead to be a noble after all, and Byleth,..
...
Byleth is built different.

Technically, Ike probably could be considered a minor lord by birth, though the title was presumably stripped when Greil left Daein, and he later is granted a (temporary) title, in Bengion, when he goes before the senate and it unlocks his tier two class. I believe in the final talk he has with Elincia he mentions electing to get rid of his title.

Then in RD he just gets absolutely yolked and kills a god.

I usually give Alondite to Mia after prying it off the Black Knight. Kind of funny to think that "SAME OL SOREN. ALWAYS STUCK IN YOUR BOOKS" was just as capable of beating Ashera as the MC. Ike just happened to be standing closer to Yune at the moment I guess.

Just beat PoR and RD for the first time. Still have zero clue where the idea of gay Ike comes from.
Fujos will clutch at any straw.
Ike has no real chemistry with or notable romantic supports conversations with women.
I think he had some chemistry with Lethe, which is more than can be said with anyone else.
Because asexuality is off the table for the fanbase and Ike has always struck me as someone who's almost as half as emotionally detached as Byleth is.
Byleth is a soulless homunculi, Ike at least experiences genuine emotion over his father getting murdered and then fighting the Black Knight.

The whole "Is Ike Gay?" thing has a remarkably simple answer - no, because Priam exists.

He was in Awakening for maybe 5 minutes as a Bonus Character, but his mere existence is proof that Ike fucked at least 1 Woman.

However, the query was "on what basis do people claim Ike is gay." At least, that’s how I read it.

The only evidence I know of for Ike being a homo is that he doesn't thirst for box to smash on the regular and broadcast it constantly, aka not a real reason, but primarily it's because of Soren. Who absolutely acts like a catty homo so often that I wonder if the twink's meant to be a gay or just so asocial that he finds any intrusion into his bond to be a reason to act like he has severe aspergers, besides that his parents didn't love him.

His reaction to seeing cats interacting with Ike in an irreverant way after all is to immediately call them slurs, making it seem like he's threatened by their presence.
Which, I mean-

Like c'mon, if you don't like her abrasive personality then whatever, that's your preference, but, fellas, do I really have to do a "hear me out" on her? There's no shame to be had. She has, as mentioned before. Acrual chemistry and relationship growth with Ike, and they share an interest in one another, the kind of mutual desire in one another that ensures at some point Priam's gonna have a mark stamped somewhere on his body. You only get one A Support in Fire Emblem and Soren's right to feel threatened.
...When it comes to looks and personality. Gameplay utility? She's non royalty Laguz, so rest in peace for being an endgame pick.

Speaking of half breeds and making them, I remember really liking Path of Radiance's world building and plot, though when I actually go back over it the most development is actually in the supports and base dialogue. Moving the support convos to a place they can actually have variation and aren't sharing space with a fucking battlefield was the most important decision PoR ever made, and the depths these convos went to made me incredibly angry both back in the day and now what Radiant Dawn did to supports. You don't get the two most racist women in the game shut in a room explaining their worldviews in RD, you don't get the explanation of how Laguz were once at the top in a society based on strength and how they see their present political situation as a result of deception. You don't get the tragic conclusion of laguz-beorc relationships based off of mutual superstitions (I don't remember if Laguz actually lose their powers if they breed with Beorc but it would be a serious show of devotion if they did). It all lands ass first and it's really a shame considering all the effort that came before.

As a side note, a detail that seems meaningless and strange, that "human" is the Laguz term of disparagement for Beorc, makes much more sense when you know the history of the setting. Thoererically speaking, "human" as a term in such a case would have come about first, and when Beorc reclaimed it, and over time lost context for its meaning, they called Laguz "sub-human" in their claim for supremacy.
Which adds another layer of why it pisses them off so much. Not only being inferior, but it's like if you call somebody nigger and they turn around and call you, without an ounce of sarcasm, a quadruple nigger.

One thing I loved in PoR was that there are at least three major 'players' who have an ideology that's basically survival of the fittest, and how the game plays with them and that belief. The Laguz believe it, and their leadership is decided in trial by combat, Ike sort-of believes it tacitly, with his disregard for the majority of nobility, as their status is not the result of skill, but birth. and Ashnard and some of the Daein true believers believe this, which is why Ashnard basically wants to kick off a massive war and leave only the strong.

(I don't remember if Laguz actually lose their powers if they breed with Beorc but it would be a serious show of devotion if they did).
They do, its confirmed via Soren's mom, Almedah. The game is pretty unclear about when or what specifically triggers them to lose their powers, but both sexes are apparently affected, because Lehran also can't transform anymore.

She's non royalty Laguz
The bane of an entire species. At least Maurim had the item that let him stay transformed. You know the Laguz situation is bad is when even being able to turn into a fucking dragon isn't a good enough reason to field someone.

Seriously Myrrh, or any of the maneketes could take over Goldoa in like half an hour.

It is hilarious some of the seething you can find, all centered around the fact that Priam was created as an homage to Ike for Awakening. Then they had to start adding things like "claims to be" to his stuff in Heroes apparently, because they have to keep the shipper's dreams alive. Apparently Priam is just some random guy who happens to look like Ike and has Ike's unbelievably rare magical sword.

ok.

Its because if you beat it with him and Soren or Ranulf having an A support rank, they have an ending that says they left Tellius together, and Ike has no romantic supports with women. Its basically just people choosing to read into that journey something romantic.
Yeah I got the final base conversation but from how agreed the sentiment is online I figured it would be a whole lot gayer than it was.
Tellius seems to attract the progressive folks due to it's anti-racism plot with the Laguz.
It's a bad anti-racism plot anyway since in RD the plot goes out it's way to show how the average Laguz is a violent retard who would rather get their fellow Laguz killed than make peace and obtain concessions from the most powerful empire in the world.
PoR has no paired endings but RD has a couple. Off the top of my head there is:
-Jill/Haar
When I read about this one after completing the game a pit formed in my stomach cause Haar absolutely knew her when she was a child.
Fujos will clutch at any straw.
A universal truth.

When I read about this one after completing the game a pit formed in my stomach cause Haar absolutely knew her when she was a child.
Its strictly worse than Sothe/Micaiah when Haar is nearly twice her age but this pairing is almost never brought up because it requires you to A-support two characters who spent like 80% of the game apart from each other...unless you recruit Jill into the Greil Mercs like a madman and leave the Dawn Brigade to die.

When I read about this one after completing the game a pit formed in my stomach cause Haar absolutely knew her when she was a child.
Wasn't it the same with Roy and that terrible prepromote? I think Cecilia was her name. Of course that pairing requires using a terrible prepromoted Valkyrie who forcibly deploys herself on one of the worst desert chapters in any of the games I've played. No, I'm not bitter, why do you ask?

Its strictly worse than Sothe/Micaiah
I mean, Sothe was raised by Micaiah, Haar iirc just worked for Jill's dad.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think its still wild that that was one of the only supports with an ending, but Miciah and Sothe always struck me as way creepier.

From the recruit convo for Sothe in PoR:

Ike: The person you're looking for.
Sothe: Yeah. I mean, we're not related by blood or anything, but...we're definitely family.
-Sothe, describing his future wife.
