Finally got around to reading most of this thread, with the last week of craziness the site’s gone through, so these are kind of old points.
Basically Edelgard's events being very different means they can't reuse story beats and maps almost exactly so of course she ends up the shortest. Edelgard is 18 chapters, Dimitri/Claude are 22, and church is 21. If those latter 3 copy chapters 13-16 exactly down to enemy placement and levels, did they really get that much more development?
This is a good point, never thought of it like that. There really isn’t some huge length difference, especially with those 4 copypaste maps (ch 13-16 in the two routes, GD & SS iirc.) If anything is to be said, mainly it’s that AM is a little longer than most routes. You could claim SS or GD is slightly longer too, depending on which was written first. Either way, that leaves half the routes to be approximately the same length, & the other half to be about 1/6th or so, longer. Not really a great disparity as it’s often made out to be.
This is coloquially called Edeltard as this unit will basically carry you through the entirety of the game.
Hegemon Edelgard being called this in FEH, is kind of funny, never heard that before. Sounds brutal though to meet up with someone using 4 of her. Why not, I guess? Whatever floats your boat, but seems like it’d defeat the purpose of fun you could be having in a strategy game, to just tank everything, all the time. F2P games do attract a certain element though, come across some real weirdos in other free to plays, before. Is Hero’s worth trying, if you plan on not spending?

This feels like a joke though. The protag being named "WWWWWWW" which iirc is effectively the Japanese way of saying "LOL" repeatedly does not inspire much confidence from me. This name makes me feel like this a fake gag leak to fuck with people due to how shit the MC looks and their name being a troll name, especially for westerners who don't know that the name is effectively saying LOLOLOLOLOL to their face.
I despise that I was wrong and that those leaks were real, especially that fucking hair. Fucking candy hair will fuse with Marth and Sigurd and we have to deal with it. I couldn't even feel excited because I kept seeing that hair and it was so bad to look at. Who designed this trash?

I'm not sure I like the blatant fan service angle this game is going for, the mechanic beyond the visuals seems fine enough but the actual presentation sounds like shit. Especially if they try to drag all these old characters that people actually like through another shitshow story.

I was hopping it'd be just some random spin off, but nope this appears to be our next mainline Fire Emblem. Can't wait for the release date to be pushed back to Christmas 2023 and it being a rushed unfinished trash fire again.

I'm honestly torn on the new MC being a literal Nintendo Switch looking ass - it's mostly laughter, but I'm also enough of a Weeb to admit that it's far from the stupidest design I've ever seen.

Then again, I'm just hoping they're doing away with the Multiple Routes. Just give us one coherent, actually good story instaed of 2-4 kinda mid stories

Just a quick list of things that were also in the original Toothpaste-chan leak:
  • Weapon triangle is back
  • SoV dungeons are back
  • No calendar
  • Main hub is condensed compared to le hueg monastary, multiple hubs to explore
  • One route (thank God almighty)
  • Weapon durability gone
Some things that people have noted from the trailer:
  • A character can have up to 7 abilities, maybe more
  • Super moves like Warp Ragnarok
  • Unlockable costumes for characters
The JP FE Twitter has posted some short clips of cutscenes. Unfortunately we've gone back to static images as backgrounds but it looks like there's at least been an effort to make them look not terrible.

Also some people had speculated when the leak first dropped that the character design was one Mika Pikazo which she confirmed herself today. I liked the samples of art I saw from her but I don't know if it's the best fit for FE and it shouldn't come as a surprise that she's made v-tuber models in the past. The hair colors and heterochromia are undeniably an eye sore to look at and completely drag down the rest of the design which I think is otherwise good.

Overall, I'm still optimistic since at the very least it's not going to be spread too thin from having to fill up multiple routes but yeesh they're really testing me with the MC design. Dunno how to feel yet about old FE protags being Personas.

Look I just want to be able to max out a class, then switch to another class and be able to use some of my previously-mastered skills in order to mix and match and make something better. And not just passive attributes. I mean skills. Spells. Special attacks. Useful shit.

Why the fuck can't my god-tier necromancer Lysithea sling magic spells when I decide to train her to ride a horse? That's fucking dumb.

Fix it, Shigeru Miyamoto.

I've been a weeb for nearing decades at this point, and this hair is some of the worst "anime hair" I think that I've ever seen to be honest. The half blue half red color scheme is just horrible. Sure you have really big spikes, danger hair bright greens or blue type colors, or just massive physics defining hair in anime designs but usually they aren't literally split down the middle like this is with their colors in my experience. It feels like a fanfic OC someone drew when they were 13. I don't even mind the two eye colors as much, but the way the hair "blends" from one half to the other is just awful because it isn't blending it is just "Here is blue, now here is red." kind of blending. I've seen people mix blue and red before, and it wasn't awful, but they had a sort of transition line that segways from one side to the other and not just this split down the middle shit.

If it is one coherent narrative that'd be nice, but this plot is not even remotely interesting in the trailer and I expect the forced fan service to be distracting and not well integrated at all. So I don't have high hopes at all for that. Also the Avatar is basically a religious icon or something, so this will be another jerk off the self insert game which always has hampered the narrative.

I do recall the leaker who showed the original leak also said an FE4 remake is coming out, so that might be more or less confirmed at this point considering he was verified on everything to do with toothpaste emblem.

I can discount the stupid shit like the Dragon Ball fusions, the avatar wank, and the nostalgic celebration of being a series for however many years if some of these gameplay leaks are true. I'm sick of routes, and if reclassing is really going to be dropped then I'd be one happy camper. Removing reclassing hasn't been mentioned as much and is thus probably fake, but I can still hope they'll make more steps towards some classic FE gameplay like not recruiting and raising every character you'll use from Chapter 3. You wouldn't even really need a much larger cast size than 3H to do these two things.

I'm so-so on the game for now, this series just gets weirder and weirder, and the plots are hardly selling points. I imagine I could really like this game though if they went towards the easy to pick up chapter to chapter gameplay instead of micromanaging shit. I'd rather play the earlier games again and use different dudes than even try to finish another route in Three Houses. It's for the better that gameplay elements like getting skills or reclassing (if they must add it) to not be a fucking project like Three Houses.

I just realized it isn't the highest praise to say: "Well at least it might not be like a game I don't personally find very fun", but we'll have to see.

You can make multiple routes work if you just make a common route for 75% of the game and the last 25% is player choice. Fates didn't know what game it wanted to be, while Three Houses basically removed the party from mattering in plot events since they might be dead/not recruited.
The whole "lizard people ruling the earth in secret" thing was pretty based though, you've gotta admit.

New FE game is not even recognizable as FE anymore, at least for me. This looks more like a generic JRPG or Genshin Impact spinoff game than a FE game. It's also pathetic that cutscenes will still take place in the CUBE with textures plastered on it to make it look like the characters are conversing in a real place. The story bits we've seen so far are also incredibly stale and generic: Fell dragon is going to be resurrected by le evil sorcerer, the main avatar character has amnesia (I miss Robin), there's a faction of zombie esque creatures called Corrupted that seem very similar to the Risen from Awakening, etc.

But what about the gameplay? Well, it's pretty obvious from looking at the trailer that they're trying to rope in the audience for the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes, or at least are taking a lot of gameplay queues from it. The scenario is incredibly similar after all, with summoning past FE heroes for nostalgia pandering, but it goes deeper than that. In pic rel you can see Alear has an SP stat, which is exists in FEH as well as the stat that allows a unit to learn skills. He also has a rating just like in FEH, which is really just his base stat total. Movement across the board has been nerfed similar to Heroes: Alear is a regular foot unit but only has 4 move, another character name Alfred is a cavalier yet he only has 6 move. This seems to coincide with the smaller map size we've seen thus far. The weapon triangle also seems to be very emphasized in this game similar to Heroes: every time in the trailer where a unit attacks with a weapon triangle advantage they inflict a "break" on the opponent, which is still vague at the time but it seems to hinder the opponent's counter attacks or something like that. Swords, axes and lances also reuse the FEH color coding of red, green and blue respectively. Perhaps most blatant of all though, is that in the opening shot of a mural, Ike and Lucina use their special FEH choose-your-legends designs rather than the designs from their actual games. I would expect more FEH pandering as we learn more about the game.

It's also disappointing that the free roaming monastery bit is back once again, with the same mediocre texture work as last time. About the only nice thing I can say about this game is that at least there seems to be only one route. This game more closely resembles the mobile game and the Persona crossover game than any of the classic FE games, and I seriously doubt we'll ever get another classic FE game now that the games are all about waifu shipping and nostalgia pandering.

I don't mind the free-roam hub type stuff. But I wish they'd make it more interesting to explore like a hub world from an older 3D platformer. What Fire Emblem is really missing is allowing me to color in the whole map to make it my color. That's what would really improve the series.

It does, the game's relatively generous if you go the F2P route and there are plenty of guides on everything you can exploit to amass a good stash of orbs and what banners you should invest if you really want to optimize your barracks.

It looks like it will definitely be a shitshow, none of the characters shown seem particularly interesting. The toothpaste hair is going to be awful to look at when the female MC is in motion, the male MC looks like a cross of rejected concept art of TMS's Itsuki and Roy, then the other characters shown in the trailer come across as insufferable with their voice acting and mediocre designs. And then add to that the fact they're taking many of the mechanics from FEH. This game's looking like a blatant cashgrab where they went "Wow the gacha game is raking us in cash. Let's make something like that but for console to rake in more cash" and that is very likely to blow up in their face.

Fix it, Shigeru Miyamoto.
Are you aiming to promote her to Dark Knight/Holy Knight? Your best bet is to train her up to Lv20 and promote her to Valkyrie (if playing with DLC) while training her in riding with lectures + sauna, extracurricular activities with a character she has support with. Otherwise, work towards making your perfect unit with NG+
What are the chances of the new game getting rid of the shipping system? Or at the very least, the gay shit? Because if it does, I might actually get it.
Lol none, that's been a staple for ages and no chance of them ever removing it. Ignore the support mechanics, the games have been playable without ever paying any attention to them since the SNES era.

Honestly Engage is fine if it’s looked at as what it’s meant to be as an anniversary title that had been delayed. I dislike the nostalgia stuff so I’ll probably only play this if it’s good since I’m sick of Intelligent Systems milking nostalgia as it’s been less than 10 years where they had 4 other titles that did the same.

Hopefully the rumors of an FE4 remake are true

To an extent, i'd be kind of disappointed if IS dropped the reclassing system, they just had to refine it and improve it from 3H to get something balanced and benefits all units.
It's always a pain when a unit you like (Say, Rebecca) is useless or at least hard to use and is unfixable. In Fates, you can get Mozu from the useless villager class and into the very useful Archer class with ease and salvage her

IS dropping features instead of improving them is sadly a series staple
