Never understood people making tier list for 3H with maddening in mind. It's not a real difficulty mode just a shitty not playtested mess.
3H tier lists should be made with hard mode in mind just like awakening.
Maddening made me hate 3H almost as much as Awakening. I liked it fine for the first year or so it came out, but trying to push through maddening was so horrible that I quit, and in hindsight the maps are fucking garbage and the game is just repetitive due to how shit the maps are. I can play Radiant Dawn multiple times just fine slow animations and all, long rout maps, shitty dawn brigade chapters, but 3H despite being so quick feels like such a slog due to everything else design wise.
No one should play maddening, and hard mode is boring too because the enemies are easy after your first playthrough.
Yeah. What I think ended up happening us that when a bunch of casuals got introduced to the series with Awakening they all flocked to Mekkah's pitfall shit like you said. Nothing in it is particularly groundbreaking advice, but when you're a casual who has no idea how to find or have done any actual high level FE playing (if you could even call it that) like LTCs and the like to give you any perspective, it becomes very easy to think you're hot shit and become intolerable because you think Jagens aren't EXP thieves.
I remember watching part of Mekkah's New Mystery tier list, and he had to make like 2 extra hour plus long parts with Dondon because he fucked up so many placements. It really bewilders me that Mekkah got this "FE expert" reputation when outside of the GBA games and maybe Thracia he doesn't seem to know any of them all that well. I guess part of it is that he played the smart straight man to Mangs for so long that people actually started to believe it.
Honestly the whole "Jeigans suck" thing was a really really overblown idea amongst a lot of people back in Mekkah's hayday. People unironically thought Seth in FE8 was bad because "muh jeigan", fucking Seth of all characters in FE8. People unironically think Lyn is some power house because she doubles everything for like 6 damage. People can't do basic multiplication or count so they think 10% extra growths on Donnel when he is missing so many stats at base compared to Chrom/Vaike/Sully/Stahl/literally anyone somehow makes Donnel a power house because insert dumb endgame story here.
Overrating growths and underrating bases was a very real "pitfall" people had, some also tended to undervalue movement but that's more a playstyle thing as people don't care if they turtle for 30 turns in a chapter. People gave this type of shitty advice for years, when all it takes is basic logic and math to determine that it was horseshit. Now for the sake of fun, statistics don't matter, but if you want to give "optimal GAMER tips" you should probably learn that the difference between 65% and 55% growth means you on avg gain +1 in a stat over the course of 10 levels. If you need a 20 minute youtube video to explain that, well so be it I guess.
Mekkah's Fates takes are also fucking garbage because Mekkah plays like he's a grandpa trying to learn what a gameboy does, he legit can't track anything except basic stats. He also doesn't know how to read into various pair up combos like Selena + Peri to get Selena to Cavalier so she can get the first Cav skill to basically give Selena effectively +3 strength, and only knows basic bitch shit like "Charlotte makes Xander god" yet he tends to undervalue Keaton/Arthur who does almost the same thing for their respective pair up partners.
