Gotta say, I've been really impressed with how good Three Houses has been. Though I haven't yet finished my Black Eagles playthrough, I am curious if I should go Blue Lions or Gold Deer for the next one. I think most people picked Black Eagles because that route actually offers you a chance to affect the story, which is really my only gripe with the game.

If you want to see Dimitri's perspective, because his thing with Edelgard is really important and his reasons for going after her are something else. I'd go Blue Lions it is pretty good I've almost completed it after finishing Golden Deer.
If you want to actually understand what is actually going on lore wise I feel Golden Deer is the better option as Blue Lions doesn't really seem to answer much of anything it is purely about Edelgard and Dimitri, Claude just sort of shows up once or twice. BL route might as well be called Two Houses.
All the routes do change the story a good amount, the big change in the story and your choice is heavily centered around your house choice as the war and the lords are pretty different when you pick them and when you don't pick them.
Ah, well there lies the rub; Black Eagles has my three favorite girls in the whole game (Petra, Dorothea, and Bernadetta). Though I didn't know it until I got to know them.
So I finished my first playthrough (Golden Deer) . About to start my second (Black Eagles-Church). I got a crest item that extends magic range by 2 and makes you take half damage sometimes if you have Lysitea's crest, but I read it wrong and assumed it sometimes halved your damage so I never used it. She was an absolute beast as a mortal savant instead of a gremory though, so I ain't even mad. She's absolute glass cannon though...
...so I imagine if you want her to have any chance of her living on Lunatic you're going to have to give her that item AND dancer for the sword avoidance ability AND Mortal Savant for the better defensive growths assuming you don't just save scum.
Of course they have a Niles avatar. People have been bitching about the gay marriage in this game even before it came out. Lots of asshurt over the gay option being Lindhart because he is a pretty boy. Meanwhile Leon in Echoes was a canon gay pretty boy yet everyone praised him for good gay representation.
Also a hardcore Fates fan on Tumblr is having a huge meltdown because Three Houses is getting received better by fans than Fates. I love when fans bash things out of spite.
I'm assuming you did the Church route, then? If you did, do Edelgard's route where you join her. If you didn't do the Church route, then yes, do the Church route and/or Golden Deer.
I did do the church route. I finished my Blue Lions playthrough today, and I started my Golden Deer playthrough. I've reached a point where I have a very specific posse that I'm unwilling to part with from my previous playthroughs, so I have to do everything I can to recruit
I think Edelgard's route will be the last route I do, when I get to it. I've been burning through this game like hell. But it's doing a great job of holding me over until Astral Chain comes out on the 30th.
Also, as for the Blue Lions path,
I LOVE what they did with Dimitri. He's easily my most favorite main lord of the three, and I'm very certain Claude has no chance in surpassing him as my favorite. That said, the story did leave a bunch of loose ends, which I honestly wasn't expecting, but whatever. It just makes me glad I did the church route first, so I was able to learn about Byleth first, and now I'll be learning more about the main lords with every path I do.
Edelgard is also a sore fucking loser. She took her loss with so much more dignity in the church route.
I'm also kinda surprised at the lack of special battle conversations in the game. In the older games, you had them all over the place, but in this one, there's only a few rare ones here and there if you're lucky, if you don't count battle conversations involving the main lord and/or Byleth.

Believe me, I've tried every combination I was able to. In fairness, I was able to get a fair few, like between Linhardt and Caspar, I did get Mercedes and Death Knight (though it wasn't anything more than Death Knight saying "I have no need for you", but combinations that would've made sense, like Ignatz and Raphael, or literally any Golden Deer recruit and Claude, any Black Eagle recruit and Edelgard (particularly disappointed that Ferdinand didn't have any special quotes with Edelgard), etc.
In Radiant Dawn, a lot of characters had special battle quotes, and then some. I'm not sure why they wouldn't implement as many here. Too many variables? I dunno. It does seem really nitpicky and overall isn't a huge deal, but it's still a little sad to see just a relative few. I feel it's wasted potential, above anything else.
I've played through the Church route (though unfortunately didn't S-support the pope because that would have been hilarious) and I'm currently edging towards the timeskip on the BL route.
So far with BL: Felix and Dimitri are pretty awesome units, DUSCUR would be a pretty good unit except he has the move speed of a snail and stride only does so much.
I figure this one's good enough to get the DLC for tbh- I'm always pretty hesitant when it comes to FE DLC's but it's alright so far at 2/4 runs.
I'm not loving it like a lot of people. The battles and story are fine, but it's a lot of the free day stuff that drags me down. Running around the cathedral talking to people and being sent on constant fetch quests is a bit of a chore.
Went with Golden Deer because deer are tasty and Claude is the most likable of the three.

Romancing Rhea in the Church route and Edie in the Black Eagles house makes the most sense to me, both routes might as well outright state "you should be romancing the route representatives dumbass!"
Funnily enough, the Church route ended up being my favorite and my personal canon. I like Dimitri but his route is really just a personal story all about him. Edelgard's route is a bit too short, feels rushed, and for insulting Claude for being an outsider and claiming that only she knows the best way for Fodlan to go forward since she knows its true history, she gets pretty much the entire history of Fodlan wrong. I like the metaplot of Golden Deer, but the Almyra plot doesn't really work for me. The Church route incorporates a lot of the metaplot from Golden Deer but instead focuses on the personal relationship Byleth has with both Rhea and Edelgard. Edelgard is still prominent despite being the villain (and I think she works better as an Arvis like character), Dimitri gets closure despite what happens to him, and I think the story of redeeming Seiros and having her accept that her mother isn't coming back is a compelling plot.
The Divine Pulse is a feature in this game that lets you roll back to a previous moment, perfect for those surprise reinforcements or careless errors where you over extend yourself. Only used it four or five times in my first route; you can upgrade it to a maximum of ten or eleven uses per battle maybe? Definitely useful for Classic players who insist on keeping everyone alive.
Regarding Divine Pluse, you need to do things in a different order to reset the RNG. Otherwise, that guy will keep scoring the crit that fucked you over.
