Just makes it all the more entertaining to me that almost every Fire Emblem and Advance Wars community tries to treat him like a Persona Non Grata-Voldemort, yet they must seethe that he's still doing well.

With the Advance Wars community, isn't it only reddit that treats him like that? I haven't heard of the AWBW side and other related places banning him, which that MKDH guy constantly bitched about them not doing so.

he found a niche of adding fresh content to the community that nobody else really seems to do.
Because adding fresh content to the FE community requires actual talent at this point (because IS certainly isn't). Rambling into a mic is easier than programming a game.

A few dozen pages ago in one of the semi-regular story v gameplay arguments @mrs thickness asked, very sagely, who plays FE for the story. Seeing the only talking head in the FE community still doing interesting stuff is Mangs seven years and one game on from 3H answers that question; very few people would be interested in FE without the story (or, more accurately, decently written characters). Dissecting stages tile by tile isn't that compelling to most people (nevermind most FE stages don't even warrant dissection) and it's very rare that other people find a story you tell yourself about a playthrough compelling enough to make content out of it - but once you start doing that, you might as well as start asking yourself how you would make your own game. Mangs is one of the few to actually act on that.

My only real issue with the likes of Mekkah and Ghast is that frankly they don’t have anything left to say, and I think they know it. There’s 14 (or as little as 11 not counting remakes or 16 counting all versions of fates) games in this franchise, and after a decade of regular content creation there really isn’t anything more for them to say. Engage being such a nothing game means the content drought is basically 7 years at this point since 3H.

The only way further is to branch into other SRPGs or ROMhacks, this franchise can’t sustain that kind of community for so long without new things to discuss like we could when Awakening, three Fates games, and 3H which had four routes with very divisive characters all within 5 years could support.

Everyone has offered their opinion on everything that matters, the only thing left to do is deep dives into glup shitto (FEMSP who I actually like), deep dives into specific design elements (zenith dude who is alright sometimes but rarely has anything to say that I don’t already know), Re-Litigate Fates again, or just ramble on about nothing for hours on end, or chop your cock off I guess that’s an option too.

Love or hate mangs, or better yet don’t care about Mangs either way, he found a niche of adding fresh content to the community that nobody else really seems to do.

Oh yeah the funniest part about Mekkah is that he tried to do a dramatube video on . . .Sunny v2? I think. He also pretty much got labeled a transphobe by Dani Doyle. When he did his Mangs hitpiece, he got disavowed by Dondon and some other people for not telling them he was going to do that.

At this point, it's either go into adjacent games (SRPGs, Romhacks, etc.) or endless "runs".

Fiddling with quick edits (CMUs, PMEs, etc) is one easy way to get viewers. Ironmanning too. Draft races, etc. But the key is having some level of charisma. Well, likability. Mekkah could be watchable if he wasn't such a boring prick.

Going forward, I suspect the Mangs-model will influence FETuber people to do more Lex Talionis/FEBuilder projects as content. Viably serious stuff, not just fucking with parasocial audience engagement things like "pick my edits".

Thoughts on this guy? He's grown pretty quickly these past few months. Seems to be a good friend of Mangs. He's shown up on his streams a few times.

Oh, yeah, from what little I saw of AWBW they don't ban Mangs or any mention of him there but I did see some fuckers try to claim he sexually harrassed them/'slide into their DM's' or whatever nonsense and the mods wouldn't buy any of it.

You can't hate these troons/SJW's enough.

Based based based I’ve found my people (although I’m not tapped in to the YouTubers y’all are talking about, the only one I watch is a guy who does Sacred Stones solo runs, and I know there’s a tranny)

What’s a class that you know is suboptimal but you continue to use out of emotional attachment or just personal affinity for its playstyle? Personally, I will baby my dodgetanking myrmidons until they day I die.

Welcome! Were not normally youtube gossiping so much, there was just a stupid happening, it's really not worth being tapped into at all.

You already said Myrm but I'm an absolute glutton for Axe user gameplay, especially gamble axe users. That 50% chance to hit 100% chance to crit hits me harder than any Casino spin ever has. Even if they die, I get to grab the next Axe user on the suicide squad and do it again. I think they are considered decent to great, but I really love bow knights and use them every chance I get.

Charlotte my beloved. Conquest wife every time. I love my squishy idiots with Wrath who couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.

My flavor was Path of Radiance Kieren with Gamble and max crit forge, and I had a revelations 'spin the wheel' based drunk playthrough where I ended up marrying Severa who I critmaxxed to hear "LOSER" more often, and had a bloodline of Rinkah, Keaton and Veloria all to have oni chieftain Death-Blow and great club critmaxxing. What a fantastic playthrough that was. Everyone always hates on Fates story for good reason, but id wager with how customizable it is, everyone has their own special stories of fun things they did with it that few others ever did, and man if that doesn't make it a good game.

Thats actually a specific class I have such a huge soft spot for, Oni Chieftan is one of the most fun classes ever and here is a huge autistic rant on it:

So focusing on birthright first: your only base Oni Chieftan is Rinkah, who falls off early. Hayato and Hinata can get it by heart seal, but that requires using those two which is rare enough as it is when Fates gives you way too many magic users and samurai before you get either of them, or then it asks you to use whole ass heart seal on that. So, I feel like people don't see enough from this class and what it has to offer. Oni Chieftan has absolutely bonkers pair up bonuses by default, giving +4 strength and +4 defense, which is enough to turn just about anyone into a physical tank in Birthright. Rinkah gets A+ supports with Orrochi, Oboro and Kagero. Meanwhile, the Horse Spirit is a Guard Naginata for mages. The other two can't pass Oni Savage by friendship or child seal nearly as easily, being male and having it as a secondary class.

Passing Oni Chieftan as a friendship seal to Orrochi makes an absolute monster of a unit that can get an obscene magic state and speed as a sage, and then friendship seal to get defense and res as a chieftain. After the Rinkah pair up bonus she was hitting 35+ in Def, Res and Mag, and enough skill and speed to be an absolute machine. Passing Oni Chieftan to Kagero or Oboro the same way gives savage blow to them, but the bonus is best used just for having a +def +str backpack for a Ninja, which is really damn nice to have, or makes Oboro hit even harder and be invulnerable on the physical side and giving her access to blacksmith as well is actually crazy fun.

Passing Oni Chieftan to a child also goes crazy. If you get savage blow before getting the child unit, you can make an instant critical hit machine right out the door, especially with Subaki to fix the skill problem and hand Caeldori some well-deserved strength growths. Give that to any samurai or crit build too and you are well on your way. But my favorite thing to do is basically the same as Orrochi before, take a mixed attacker with good res, and make them a fun bundle of states. Mitama works especially well for this, mine turned out with 35+ in every stat except skill.

In revelations you can use it with other Nhorian skills, especally Autur, Severa, or high crit classes like the Furries, and a great club to reach a crit rate of over 100%. I don't think I need to say more.

I hardly ever use Rinkah as anything but a backpack after she reaches level 5, but spreading that class around is some of the most fun you can have in this game.

Severa who I critmaxxed to hear "LOSER" more often
So you’re as drawn to the lure of the tsun as I am, huh?

I’ve only played Conquest and that’s a bit too restrictive for a low-skill player like me to fuck around with classes. If I ever get around to Birthright or Rev, what’s some fun shenanigans I can get up to?

Hoshido in particular has some of the most unique and interesting classes that the franchise has to offer, and I would really recommend just seeing the first thing that makes you say 'yoooooooo thats rad' and run with it. The Mechanist, a puppet master Ninja class, gets replicate as a skill to just split yourself in half as a clone that shares damage. I just went on about Oni Chieftan. Blacksmith and Merchant just simply drop weapons or gold bars, and merchant can spend gold bars to give a +10 one time damage boost. Samurai (myrmadon) can promote into master of arms which is just great knight without a horse which gets life and death which is just +10 damage given, +10 damage taken, for those who love dodgetakning or living on the edge. You can pass around all of the "Seal Stat" skills to have a debuff bot. There are cool mixed attackers like Bassara to try out with Rend Heaven as a skill. Theres a Pegasus Archer. Arhers just get a skill that gives +4 damage on initiating an attack which is really fun to give to ninjas with three range weapons, or samurai. You can use Corrin and Silas as a method to give Sol+Luna to people who should *not* have those skills. Azama is a physical healer with spears, staves and a bonkers attack/defense. Ive made a Kana that restores 100% health at every upkeep step.

I can't overstate how much I love Hosido classes as a sandbox for creativity, neither Birthright or Rev should be particularly hard for you if you can handle conquest on normal. Definitely give it a play and report back what nonsense you get up to.

Not sure if they count because their viability is all over the place but I like my mages, including light and dark mages. Azel, Salem, Lucius, Lute, you name 'em. Pelleas in particular is among my favorite characters in the series but is trapped in the game where mages are at their worst, where everything is deceptively hard to double and enemy generals have almost as much resistance as defense. And don't get me started on his availability, poor guy was born to suffer.

Same, I love so many of the Hoshido classes and their weapons too, they come with so many cool effects that the more traditional Nohrian weapons don't have. After ninjas I could never go back to regular thiefs anymore (and I already only used them out of necessity), especially when they don't even use ranged daggers.

Welcome, it's nice to have more veterans around.
While I do talk about Mangs a lot I try to keep it sort of relevant to the conversation but this thread generally is very chill.

My favourite class in all of Fire Emblem is just straight up the Warrior.
I really enjoy their massive HP pool and high Strength, what's more is that they get to use Bows which are a severely underrated weapon type in most of the games.

Warriors/Fighters aren't braindead easy to use like say Swordmasters, Sages and Paladins, they tend to have effective weaponry early on like the Hammer so they often have answers. Their high HP pool but comparatively mediocre DEF and poor RES means they do a different kind of tanking, I enjoy having to add up the atk values instead of just having enemies tink on my units.

One prime example I like to bring up is Dorcas from FE7, I seriously give him the Angelic Robe and Energy Ring from Lyn mode.
In a recent playthrough, thanks to the Robe in particular, he became as good as Marcus at tanking particularly in the Merlinus chapter.
I was able to send him into the dark with an handaxe and he was able to draw enough aggro that even Eliwood was able to contribute.

Then in that playthrough I ended up training Dorcas' bow rank with the Shortbow to the point he was able to use the Brave Bow.
And a warrior with a brave bow is about as terrifying as it sounds.
It allows the Warrior to double accurately and use their immense strength to just annihilate enemies.

I’m not 100% sure I get to qualify, I’m not very good at the game and don’t do LTCs or anything like that. My primary attraction to the series is the characters and supports and the women.
I suppose by Veteran I meant those who played games past 3H at this point.
3H brought in a lot of new blood just like Awakening did before it.

I would qualify as a veteran pretty easily, played all the games, most of them on the hardest difficulty and know stuff about pretty much every pre-Awakening game. Games past that my knowledge is a lot less clear since I never got into those games too much.

Only difficulty I can't say i've completed is Lunatic+ in Awakening, that has to be the worst difficulty in the entire series, if the +skills hadn't been RANDOMIZED I believe it could've been great.

The Knight line.

Despite not caring that much about the movement/time efficiency min-maxxing autism that some people can get into in a single-player game, knights are just not good in the overwhelming majority of FE games. They'll usually get doubled by everything, low-strength doubles can get around their defenses with specialized weaponry and spell users can usually kill them in a single combat round. Most FE games treat them as one of those filler enemy classes, and the main thing separating them from soldiers is that you will reliably get at least one.

But Tellius was my introduction to FE and I'll always have a soft spot for knights since, aside from Fates, they're the only games where the Knight line is able to perform well consistently. Nevermind the Black Knight is still one of the best FE antagonists in the series. Their shoulders of doom can still get a chuckle from me nearly two decades on too.

"Man, Awakening Lunatic+ actually looks like it'll be a cool challenge, I bet this is where IS put most of their effort int-"

"Pick a god and pray."

Oh, then yeah, I do count. Played the GBA and 3DS games, don’t really enjoy Three Houses much. Still too scared to try Jugdral.

The walk of doom they do in Radiant Dawn is pretty hilarious. Usually in these JRPGs, especially turnbased ones, you're expected to suspend your disbelief that the characters aren't just standing apart and waiting to be hit.

But then come the Radiant Dawn armor knight and pretty unambiguously slowly walk up to the enemy and smack them as they just stand there.

Couldn't find a better video but these fucks can walk for a long time if there's more distance.

Scared of what? FE4 is pretty braindead easy unless you softlock yourself with an unwinnable save.

You can save every single turn and pretty much all your characters are busted good, the entire game is basically fodder enemies that your gods cut through like butter safe for like...some of the bosses with holy blood, Barons and like the last 12 enemies that surround the final boss?
