I still believe Fates' localization is way worse
Yeah in terms of actual content Fates' localization is much worse. When I said that I was mostly just thinking of the script changes and not cut content. I think Engage has a worse script localization compared to Fates, but Fates was butchered outside of that as well compared to Engage.

So.......Mangs just ended his latest Andaron Saga Stream and he went pretty much deathless on 29.
He's doing a great job of blowing the fuck out of me and everyone else that says the game is bullshit, though I'm calling shenanigans on Cassandra not proccing aegis/pavise/whatever once. He didn't even do some of the particularly degenerate strategies in the first half of the game, either. Getting Ashcleaver and Galeshot especially makes the harder parts of midgame and even 29 specifically a lot more manageable.

Elmer is a great unit and anyone who disagrees looks and sounds like him IRL

Is he better than Summoner Ewan?

…See, this is why I hope AI takes these peoples jobs. When literal degenerates (weebs and coomers) do a better job at translations solely because they want better porn, you know things are fucked.
The problem is that machines do lack the ability to properly translate Japanese, especially in casual situations, due of being a pro-drop language. A few kanji character words have many definitions and machine translators can have issues to pick up the proper one, because they again lack the ability to discern context unlike a human. They may take idioms in a literal way or poorly handle certain grammar rules/particles as well.

The fact the hijinks of american localizations find their way in the occasional times a japanese game is translated into my native language (since it's obviously easier here to hire people proficient in english than in japanese), bothers me too.

Considering Nintendo games on Switch are multi-language regardless of the region (with the exception of Xenoblade 2 and the Famicom Detective Club remakes) and the console itself is not region-locked, it makes me wonder why american localizers believe they can continue their disdain towards japanese media without people eventually noticing. Hell, the case of Engage has been well aware enough on the Internet that I even saw one japanese artist taking a jab at the english localization.

Yeah I forgot to mention this but the game has a completely bastardized english translation, worse than even Fates' was. In particular, the dialogue when S supporting the child characters Jean and Anna were heavily changed in the translation, although most S supports were changed to lean more platonic instead of romantic.
Amusingly, there is a uncensored patch for this game that was hosted on some site called gamebanana, but the creator of the mod was forced to keep the censored translations of Anna and Jean's S supports or else the sight wouldn't host their mod. Although you can find the full, complete uncensored patch easily enough.
I did the translation of the japanese S rank support for Anna, and it's funny how it simply portrays as an innocent kid's crush and with both parties agreeing it's too soon yet to be lovers. Dialogue is exactly the same regardless of the MC's gender btw.
FE Engage - Anna JP - S support.jpg

censoring comments about women's bodies
Again, it's bad enough that even mere compliments between women get neutered in the official English.
Chloe - Celine Support.jpg

so picking Alear's "form" instead of their gender
It's an example I don't find weird because the MCs in Engage have fixed appearances due of having plot-related lineage (with hair color changes), unlike in Fates & Awakening where you could fully customize the main character. 3H and its musou spin-off also does exactly the same thing as Engage.

They all wrote down 姿 (sugata) which is the kanji word for "form - appearance"

Even if AI is not a good substitute, the idea of these people will become another statistic in LA's homeless population is good enough especially if they get shit on like Daniel Larson.

Didnt engage have some kind of map editor? I never see anyone talking about it.

Fire emblem would be better off with no english dub at this point. The Japanese VA’s put in more effort most of the time and you wouldn’t see any of these cheesy character portrayals in shitty forgettable western dramas, so why do they reserve their disdain for things outside their petty cliquish autism?

I've never bothered to use Ewan without tower grinding, so I don't have a good basis for comparison. People say Elmer's hard to train in his join chapter, but he does like 10 damage to cavs, gets to like 50% crit with Emilia + Angelus support, can even start doubling with some speed levels/items, and he can take a hit on enemy phase. You don't even need to be particularly trainee-pilled to set up an occasional 3 kills a turn for him. Elmer's growths look like piss but he get so many levels that he still regularly sees a few green numbers before promotion on top of the nutty promotion gains (sage in AS is fucking +5 str.) He also has a distinct niche in the early to mid game as your only dark mage with natural bulk and good con. AS gives you many broken dark mages later on, but they're never going to be Elmer bulky and they don't have swords (axes if you're saucy and make him war monk) to play weapon triangle/bonk mages, or staves for support. He's just a solid generalist who fits well into any team composition, so I'm always surprised to see when even the devs are commonly like "erm, yeah. easily bottom 3 unit LMAO"

Okay. So he is more akin to Moulder in FE8. Yeah. The bulk does help long term from doubling issues due to heavy tomes.

I still believe Fates' localization is way worse, as it:
1. Turned Saizo and Beruka's C support into a shitty meme, but didn't commit to the bit fully so when you do the rest of their support chain you miss out on the context
2. Censored Soleil and Corrin's support because fags complained the original was conversion therapy (they still complained about the censored version being conversion therapy)
3. Cut off most of the face petting shit as well as shit tons of dialogue with it
4. Didn't localize 2 whole dlcs, which are the only way to keep getting promotion items for the lodestar and great lord classes after you get the 2 from the awakening dlc
5. Removed all swimsuit accesories with the exception of the towel
6. As well as other small bits like not being able to keep the gender of Hinoka's pegasus consistent or making Hinata's kid personality revolve around pickles when he only mentioned them in JP because they are considered a food for grandpas, indicating that he has the taste of an old person.

Engage's censorship is still awful but when you compare it to what it could have been you notice it could have been way worse

I still think Fates and Echoes have had the best soundtracks to this day.

"Accessibility" that's why.

For some reason people hate reading? So they need to hear a cringe portrayal of the things they are literally watching. For example, Yakuza never needed a dub. I barely hear anyone say anything positive about it, let alone choosing it over the Japanese. But hey, it's been there since Like a Dragon.

People have been reduced to sheer niggertry. Like reading will be something only the Upper Echelons of society will be able to even do at this point.

Best thing fates did was get rena strober.

I still can't believe they hired fucking yong yea for yakuza. And he was so fucking annoying joining in unannounced when kuroda was performing

We as a society don't bully localizers and VAs enough.
Him and these younger VA's just suddenly are able to move out to LA and get the jobs. The average person cannot afford to live in LA. That's what drives me nuts. And most of them are untalented as they can only do like two voices. They lack range.

Laraine Newman, Eric Bauza, Charlie Adler, Cree Summer, Kath Sousie, Lani Minella, Tress MacNellie, Grey Deslile, Mark Hamil, Erin Fitzgerald, Tara Strong, and Fred Tasticore are all actors who have actual range.

Most of these one note VA's, particularly in projects by Patrick Seitz and the Arems, are overused and overrated. When you can easily tell its so&so in this game or this anime.....that's when you know its bad.

And then you get people like Stephanie Sheh who threaten to report actors as she did before Breath of the Wild was released. (Seriously look it up). It is why the VA strike is pointless and stupid. Jennifer Hale is wasting her time. The higher ups will never view voice work the way they do on camera stuff and it is only going to get worse with A.I.
