Crafting and Gathering has been my go to ever since i deep my toes starting with Culinary. It is weirdly relaxing to play them and i dont have to worry about rotations, watching 20mins long vids on bosses or having to argue with retards on FF14 that forget that as a tank they have mitigations. Personally i would recommend any kiwi to give it an honest try, if not just to break the monotony.

One thing I've noticed more and more as I enter into these casual comfy things like fishing crafting hunts fates etc is the game does an exceptionally poor job of telling you what to do or where everything is.

There are so many vendors and zones across so many expacs that nothing is coherent anymore to the point im having to google everything. It doesn't help that for many things I do within dawntrail zones I have to go 1-2 expansions back to find the vendor.

Idk rant over. I just wish the game itself told me more things. I shouldn't have to rely on Google to understand all these systems and stuff.

To this day I snort whenever I hear "wow I had no idea Wuk's voice actress was trans until someone told me yesterday!" Please, the dude sounds like fucking John Leguizamo's drag queen character in To Wong Foo.

Oh, absolutely, I completely rely on the ffxiv wiki for coordinates, those kind players for taking the time to put them there. I've not made it to DT, just getting to Endwalker, so I imagine there will be help for me by the time I get to DT, no help to players that are up to date.

There was a time that I hadn't thought to look anything up and that ultimately forced me into a break from the game due to frustration.

I am really enjoying the new Deep Dungeon (Pilgrims Traverse) but in terms of difficulty, it's much more on par with POTD and Heaven on High. It led me to try going back to Eureka Orthos (that Triple Triad card is a thorn in my side!) and I have to say... That place is easily the worst thing in the game. No one is doing it anymore, but it almost requires 3+ players. I've tried 2-manning it (PLD/SGE) and it's the only content we can't manage. Savages/Extremes, criterion/variants, instanced areas, we've done it all. Eureka Orthos? I was ready to un-sub! My house is my anchor at this point.

I hope that by some miracle they try to fix this! There are so many barriers to do content that I often find myself on the wiki 2x longer than doing the content itself. I think making as much as possible be within the game will make it healthier.

Sidenote: I am so tired of having to join a discord server for every aspect of this game it seems like. PF is dead it feels like you have to go to Discords to form groups. FCS? dead, join their discord and be avail 24/7.
I hope they can improve this too!

Yeah thats the worst part about crafting. Sure the game tells me where to gather a material if its via botanist or miner but you're screwed if you need a drop from a monster. Thats the very reason I dropped crafting at first, I didn't like going into google for every recipe (I latter discovered garland tools but it is the same fucking thing in that I gotta tab out of the game and open my browser).
Why can't the game have a bestiary that records a monster's area and potential drops?

So the emergency glass braking was in fact, emergency glass breaking. New interview with Yoshi-P (JP) with a quote that caught on fire all around the internet:
Yoshida P: "FF14 is moving forward toward the next 10 years. With the resolve to undergo a second rebirth, we're rethinking everything from scratch under the goal of evolving the game itself into a cutting-edge service."
So to sum up
>SE tells western branch to fuck off
>Key western translators were told to fuck off
>Kate steps down
>All of a sudden, Yoshi-P gets a fire under his ass (dunno who exactly put it there) to revamp the entirety of XIV's major system overhauls
>Saying that people have limited time and want to reward that more and more limited time they have playing the game

Dunno what's going on, but the Japanese are being bold and changing things... this could be a very interesting time when 8.0 drops.

This will materialize in the form of... an 8.0 that is functionally identical to 7.0, except jobs are even simpler, they don't bring back the US VA studio, and they get someone on the writing staff whose mental development didn't stop at age eleven.

It's all marketing buzz, I suspect after the drubbing that was their recent earnings call. Lmao yeah, in the wider interview (machine translated):
"To put it to the extreme, even 450 Allag slabs may not be very meaningful to those who are not interested in the item level. If so, you can also think about exchanging it for vehicles, pretty equipment, etc."

He's talking about appealing to people who don't want to gear up, who don't want to play the game, who just want collectibles and pets. Not on fixing their boring, uninteresting gearing system that penalizes you for playing too much. This latest cope is gonna be fun to watch crash down to reality, the same as "Oh, 8.0 is when they're doing the jobs rework."

I just assume the data on sub numbers and earnings is to the point SE is saying something needs to change "or else" to the leadership. I also saw someone on reddit (yeah yeah I know) Who said it seems like they are really really running into tech debt when trying to do ANYTHING players want so thats why they are going to bust ass and fix a lot, too much community pressure and broken promises.

I will wait and see what happens but it should be an interesting fan fest at least. Feels like its the make or break fr

I’m still remaining cautious over all of this news. I don’t want to get too excited then it turns out that Kate got promoted or the newest localizer is just as bad as she is or Yoshi-P is being Japanese Todd Howard or a multitude of other possible scenarios. I do, however, really want things to improve even if it ends up being just a pipe dream.

There's not much to ponder until the Fan Fest info hits, but Square seems to realize that FFXIV isn't actually going to just be a "forever cash cow" if they just let it spill into the dirt and seems to realize they've had a lot of bombs lately.

I can't imagine what they could actually do to 'modernize' FFXIV without addressing the technical debt, but who's to say they even could move past the debt if the re-wrote the entire engine or if they'd commit all the same Japanese mistakes they do every time. The UI/UX in FFXIV is complete dogshit that was generally unacceptable when the game was new.

It would do a lot of good for the game if you could simply queue as multiple roles, for example.

Agree, but also it's difficult to see how they're going to dig themselves out of the hole they have, given their current trajectory. What they need, is a ARR 3.0, preferably with an actually non-autistic engine that isn't laden with weird technical debt, but we all know SEnix will never commit to that in current year 2025, soon to be 2026.

Even if we do get interesting news at the Fan Fest, it'll take years for it to turn up. They announced Beastmaster January 2024 and we still won't see it until mid 2026, so I wouldn't expect any serious reworks until possibly 2030 at the rate they work on things.
