Reminds me about the drama with the AI voices things.
FF14 community got so fucking triggered when someone used AI to replicate a VA's voice in their videos, but turn a blind eye when it's used for literally everything else everywhere else.

I can tolerate mods to a limited extent. Mods like reshade to make the lighting less drab are decent, most likely moot after the graphics overhaul. Stuff like "you can now wear hats on Hrothgar and Viera" can be counted as QoL, even.
Mods like these? Shit that adds in unfitting clothes, Sims 4-looking hair, plastic surgery proportions and god-awful face edits? Completely retarded, anyone that uses them or has Mare Lamentorum in their search info should be avoided. You might as well go about the game like it's IMVU or Second Life, and from what I've seen of these modbeasts they do exactly that.

Fun fact: A vast majority of aesthetic mods and even face sculpts are basically just asset rips from various Chinese games, often poorly ported and awful-looking on the actual in-game models too. They literally only exist for people to take screenshots with them and that's it, because shot composition and copious amounts of image editing are the only way to make a lot of those mods look somewhat passable.
Even then, people fuck that latter part up because, for whatever reason, they enjoy their characters looking like plastic, mush-faced, IMVU sex dolls.

I actually didn't know that, but it makes perfect sense. Who knew the feeling of "this is very Chinese mobile game-esque" was based on some sort of fact? Even if it's not an asset rip, you can't say shit like this isn't taking cues from shovelware Korean MMOs or IMVU.
I didn't bring it up in my last post, but that linked Carrd is a really good example of a common archetype in XIV roleplaying, because I read "Hingan" under that catgirl and my eyes rolled to the back of my head. Despite the stupid amount of decent to great resources for character-building and writing backgrounds up (let alone what MSQ and sidequests give you), at least half of the people dipping into roleplay go about it like this person does. No doubt there's plenty of rightful complaining about this already though, I've seen a good bit in this very thread.

I think the bara Hrothgar mods are just furries and gayniggers doing their own thing with that, but for the most part you have the right of it. And trust me, I'm also unfortunately, intimately familiar with this sort of brainless, wish fulfillment, no effort dreck that goes into XIV's roleplaying community.
You might be surprised at how little complaining actually goes on about it though because, like with most things XIV, if you dare to have any criticism for something, there's a million and one people ready to jump down your throat and accuse you of being the one ruining everything by complaining. I have only ever seen people point out the retarded bullshit XIV roleplayers get up to on here and in private with friends, and even then, there's been more people ignorant that this sort of thing goes on even while being adjacent to that hobby.
Hell, roleplaying in general is a gold mine for lolcalf, if not outright lolcow, behavior and it's a shame that despite the one or two threads that are here on the Farms for that sort of thing, they basically end up dead in the water before too long.

Ive been in many communities, but FF14 is the most anti-criticism. Even when youre being respctful about criticizing something, theres always that one person(s) thay feel personally attacked and disregard your criticism as "toxic" or "youre part of the problem".

EDIT: That said, while I believe FFXIV is not immune to criticism especially when ARR was built on it, I've seen my share of retarded criticisms.

More fandom pandering, where the fan-favorite gets turned into our epic perfect good boy that we'll never let go of, which is actually pretty funny since that's his whole arc in ShB. Really I'm more annoyed by what's happened to Hythlodeus, who really isn't much of a character because he's meant to show up and be a warm, empathetic voice for one scene and now seems to keep showing up to demonstrate his crush on Emet. He even gets more or less sidelined in Elpis once Venat shows up because she's much more fun as Emet's foil because she's optimistic and adventurous, while Hythlodeus is just "the nice one who won't shut up about how good Emet is."

I don't know, I disagree. He's someone who's bound to a duty given to him by himself, his people, and Zodiark, the God his people created and sacrificed themselves for just to stop the hellfire of the Final Days. I don't think he's a good boy who dindu nuffin, but I do at least understand where he's coming from. He wants to reassemble his old world in memory and light of his people's sacrifices because without it, their sacrifices, especially Hythlodaeus', was for nothing.

He got run off because trans podcaster named Hesse (twitter name Claire Penis@ZeroSuitCamus), who posted the video claiming she made it (this is a long running gag, where she posts cringy stuff and claims she made it). This brought on a lot of his fans who have trouble understanding humor
making calls to summarily execute her for daring to steal their favorite Redditors video(that has all of his credits left in). This of course turned into a never ending loop of people coming in to defend Hesse and brought back more of the oldfags who hate his faggy video. This has all culminated in both users supposedly being sent death threats and a suspicious package being sent to JoCat(as can be read in your post). This prompted both of them to delete their accounts (well, at least Hesse's). Anyways, the LGBT Mafia sends their regards.
