Sorry, tried to watch it and the first 30 seconds this faggot acts so insufferably smug I had to turn it off, so much so that I don't even care about his point; I just hope he gets eaten in a spiral of gay drama.
That's the appropriate reaction to ginger boomer

WARNING: spoilers in the thread.

Reading some of these posts and seeing why people hate these NPCs (some of them are legitimately fucking baffling) I really have to ask this. Do redditors actually enjoy the story? Or do they just like staring at catgirl ass and meek little lambs like Mikoto as easy pussy. Vice versa with creepy women having fujoshi feelings towards G'raha Tia and Alphinaud. I think they do, but in the most consumerist Avengers made me leftist kind of way internalizing none of themes at all.

EDIT: This one's my favorite post and it's something Redditors do that's unintentionally funny:

While it'd be funny to say they just want to fuck the pixels, I think they honestly do enjoy it, they're just too stupid to grasp it. Case in point, every redditor's hate-boner to Zenos. That's not to say every one of them hates him, but everyone that does hates him for the same reason: They're too retarded to grasp that he's clinically depressed to an absolutely insane degree. Hilariously, redditors that love him love him for the same reason (well, that plus 'I want him to fuck me.')

Edit: I couldn't ask for more cringe to prove my point:

To summerize for those who don't want to spoil themselves: 'Zenos is bad because he likes to fight, and if you don't like to fight that makes him stupid. also', and I'm quoting here 'Zenos is the kind of white guy who could call me a racial slur IRL.'

That's because you're a faggot nigger 'Catboy enjoyer.'

I haven't gone through Endwalker yet, but I've gotten the sense that he's just a sociopath type character who is a sort of twisted mockery of what the WoL is supposed to represent.

Nothing new to the series, as there's a lot of crossover with omgbestvillainever Kefka and Zenos, although EW might change that. It just seems like a very anime as fuck character archetype barring any new revelations with EW.

That's because you're a faggot nigger 'Catboy enjoyer.'
Yeah, this sort of fill in the blanks projection is why this fanbase is so goddamned retarded when it comes to understanding the story.

There was a discussion on NN about Haurchefant and why he's the best.character.ever because he's the only character that 'cared about the WoL' unlike the other NPCs who turned their backs on you with that shit with the Sultana went down.

I really don't understand people who need every single detail spoonfed to them, their hands held and then their jaws and throats massaged so that they can swallow whatever message is being presented to them. It's different from people who just don't care in that they think they're getting it, but they well and truly do not.

To keep it as spoiler light as possible, it's that, with depression.
His suicide at the end of SB came with a very clear message of 'I'll never reach that high again'. Any shrink will tell you, depression isn't 'big sad', it's apathy. It's raw, total, all consuming numbness, where even simple pleasures like eating or sex lose all interest, because why fucking bother? So, imagine, for a second, you've lived that way your entire life, and for one brief moment, you get to fucking feel something.

To use a food metaphor, you'd been eating unflavored soy your entire life, and you get one good ass, well made steak. And you know for a hard fact you will go back to soy for the rest of your life. That's why his whole motivation becomes 'make it better, then burn the entire fucking world down, so I don't ever have to deal with this shit again.' It's not so much he's just a rando sociopath, just he knows fighting you is the only way he can ever feel again, and the only way he can top the previous fight is to go bigger.

That being said, he is also supposed to be a mockery of the WoL, in a very Liquid Snake 'You enjoy all the killing' manner. Which, let's be real, we do.

Yeah, it's the whole 'WILL NO ONE GIVE ME A CHALLENGE?!" that's been in Asian media for literal centuries, going all the way back to RotK and Lu fucking Bu.

This is just a variation of that character with some ennui/pathos.

I also enjoy the folks seething over Rowena.

The fact that people still write multi-paragraph, genuine hatred and asspain filled posts about Zenos, Nero, Ranjit or especially Grynewaht, the fucking COMIC RELIEF side villain will never stop being amusing.
I've said it before, but the final Zenos dialog choice is literally a retard check.
No matter if you've been playing for ten years, or less than a year, you've played through something people have spent thousands of man hours creating. You've definitely put in a couple hundred hours unless you're skipping all of the cutscenes. And now at the end of the first big story arc, ten years in, after Aryan Vergil turned into a fucking dragon, flew across the entire universe, shattered the walls of reality, and then went "lol, lmao even" at the personification of everything bad in existence before you kill it through the power of fucking friendship, the game asks you "Was it all worth it? Did you have fun? You did get this far because you enjoyed the game, right? Do you want to keep having fun?" And your answers are either admitting that yeah, you do play videogames to have fun, that's the point.

Or you can pick one of the other choices, because you're some kind of tard who plays videogames because you hate them. Or because you can't separate fictional characters from reality. Or because you're incapable of even acknowledging the concept of a character arc, or motivations, or even human emotion. Or because of a myriad of other mental disabilities you can see clearly exhibited in that reddit thread.

That is unironically one of my favorite moments in the game. Zenos takes one look at this fucking thing, a universal extinction level threat, at minium, realizes that that is the thing you're trying to kill, and basically says 'why is it still alive, faggot? Hurry it up.' Bonus points for him being genuinely confused why you haven't killed it yet. I fucking love it.

Though, I'll defend the retard check in a single way: There is merit to responding 'in character.' Where this falls off, however, is when you, the player, think that way. Then, yeah, you should just delete any accounts you can use to discuss the game, and shut the fuck up, because you're a tard of the highest order.

It's difficult for me to conceive of a reason for people to passionately hate Nero. He's too goddamned based.

I mean, I picked the option telling Zenos that he wasn't wrong, but I'm not so sure it's as deep as you're claiming it to be. Maybe some people are all about that IC roleplay and tell Zenos to shove it up his ass because they really never did agree with his philosophy. A couple of people I know went that route. Some people just think he's an edgy fag making excuses for himself. I don't agree with their views, but I can't exactly be inclined to think that they're objectively wrong since each individual is going to interpret Zenos differently, as evidenced by the the divide between the people who absolutely hate him and the people who want that former Garlean dick. I can only really take exceptions to people's interpretations when they're way off the fucking mark, like with people's general views on Hien, for instance.

Honestly, I was on the "fuck Zenos" train before EW, not for any gay reason, it was something as simple as the fact that I found him boring.

Probably doesn't help that he is presented in the context of the worst expansion in the game, so any room there might have been to at least explore his character a bit is instead replaced with "omg you guys we have to liberate ala nigro", the othard segment which while alright has about two minutes worth of Zenos, and finally 40 hours of cutscenes of the most boring character I've had the displeasure of seeing in a game (Lyse), but I digress

He grew just a tiny bit on me post SB, seeing him fuck around in a random elezen body did give rise to some interesting interactions from him.

His EW arc is much better, not because *he* becomes more interesting, but due to the way he interacts with others, prior to it, he had only really had a (brief) chat with the WoL, anyone else he spoke to was to give orders, or tired speech before a vertical chop.
Seeing the other scions confront him in person and his entire answer for all the atrocities he commits being, paraphrasing "I was bored lol", was good not because of him, but the reactions it gets.
That and the line when he shows to confront big bird someone else mentioned, that one line made me start enjoying his shit for a change, shame it was soon ended instead of him becoming the vegeta to our goku.
It's difficult for me to conceive of a reason for people to passionately hate Nero. He's too goddamned based.
Because Garlean bad, and some people might not have played the Omega raid questline where he really fucking shines.

The in character part is true and there is merit there. I might be generalizing, but most of the online community that actually comes at it from that perspective seems to be uh, a bit too much "in character" though.

Fucking Quintus and Jullus still get a bunch of hate even though their only sin was having a spine. For such a friendly and accepting community, they're really racist towards the aetherically challenged, and the Finnish.

There are valid reasons to hate Quintus:
He's the guy who arrogantly stood his ground while rubble was piling around him and decided to use circular logic to "outsmart us" when the alliance was extending an olive branch and offering them food and warmth. So he decided to raid the encampment in a pathetic ambush to procure... food and warmth? And also expect the alliance to throw their weapons down and submit not realizing these people overpower him and his men by a disproportionate degree. He could've gotten his own men killed and he could've left the injured to rot and he could've caused needless deaths and for what? Societal values? Might makes right? I'll admit I didn't want him to shoot himself, but I cannot in good conscience say I didn't twinge or feel an ounce of frustration when I talked to him.
As for Jullus, I have no idea.

I like how his "crafter mains wouldnt've been as bloodthirsty as him" thing falls moot because by virtue of playing the game long enough to be a hi level crafter you still have to do all the murder and fighting Zenos gets a hard on over

I get it that the average XIV player has the brain of a peanut but they're so retarded they get pissy at a vidya story treating your CaC like it does because its not a fucking D&D game where all shitty OC fanfictions can be tolerated and actively developed on the fly to a point

From that Reddit thread:

Nero Scaeva. I’m not sure I megaloathe the guy, but I can’t stand how he had been a dedicated follower of the Garlean Empire, was full willing to unleash Ultima on Eorzea and went all in on the ‘anyone not of the Empire is a savage’ thing, but still gets a free pass because he’s a comedic foil for his ex-husband. The man hasn’t shown one ounce of regret in working for a slave-driving, genociding tyrannical dictatorship, but he’s our buddy now.

From that Reddit thread:
He's not even our buddy though. He just works with us and his rival Cid because it's more convenient to do so and he wants to surpass Cid directly... Which he kind of does in some ways, but, for the most part, a lot of his technological successes come from the combined efforts of both inventors.

There are valid reasons to hate Quintus:

I actually respect Quintus to some degree for sticking to his guns, no matter how foolish they might've been, and I believe that's part of the point of his character that you're going to take away your own views on his actions, much like with Zenos. Looking at him one way, you could call him a foolish coward for being so scared of embracing change and surrendering that he decided suicide was the only way out. Looking at it another way, even though the Garlean throne was tarnished and Garlemald as a nation was effectively destroyed, Quintus remained a loyal patriot until the very end. "Death before dishonor" and all that jazz. Because as much as you might criticize those "societal values" and "might makes right" mentality, and perhaps rightly so, for some of those characters, they were the most important things to them. Some were able to survive even with their entire societal foundation completely collapsed in every sense and found ways to move on, and others, particularly the "old guard" such as Quintus, refused to betray their ideals, even if it meant facing a bitter end.
