Fanfest 2023 started; new trailer looks like we are going to the new world, known as Tural, inspired by Mexican/Aztec aesthetics. Assuming that the WoL isn't using Paladin again, I think we're getting a new, one-handed sword job. People are assuming it's a remix of Corsair, from FF11.

New expansion is known as Dawntrail, with a release date of Summer 2024.

Trailer also mentioned that the people of the new world focus on "diversity" and "living in harmony with nature".

Level cap increasing to 100. Also getting two new jobs, one Melee DPS, one Magic DPS, no confirmations on what they are yet. That being said, Yoshi-P is wearing a TMNT Mutant Mayhem t-shirt, which is apparently a hint. I have no clue what it might be, thought; could be a staff, dual knives/swords, nunchakus, sword?

New dungeons, new alliance raid, new 8-player raid, new ultimate.

Blue mage update, more Hildebrand, more deep dungeons, and a Gold Saucer Update.

No blitztball.

Graphical update confirmed. Graphics will be updated for 7.0 content areas first, then they'll update the previous areas and content.

Plenty of new gear for jobs confirmed.

Lot of focus on eastern-style dragons, I noticed.

If this expac doesn't have any FFX related content I'm gonna fight somebody.

also no female hrothgar lol

Eh, I'm personally alright with that, though I do wish the multitude of furries would shut up about it eventually. Same with blitzball, personally.

Someone in the audience posted a theory that the new melee is a dual-wielding sword DPS, called the Shredder. It does sound cool, but it seems a bit too similar to Ninja, though.

Going back a bit; have to say, Yoshi-P's English was pretty good! Can't speak for the translator woman's Japanese, but I do find it funny that they had the Japanese guy speaking English this year, and the English translator speaking Japanese.

Also, they just finished playing "Flow", now The Primals are playing To The Edge.

They added Mamool Ja children as seen in the trailer but there are still no Roegadyn children. I guess we really are born as big as we are as adults.

I have awoken from my slumber to lightly sperg about Weeb Fantasy 14

Apparently people are being spooked that FFXIV will pull a racist on the Mexicans due to the El Dorado styled expansion this time around. Spotted something I never knew people were reeeeing about is that Stormblood is actually racist, because something something salt mine or whatever.

Stormblood is racist 1.PNG

Stormblood is racist 2.PNG

Because god forbid the Ala Mhiggers actually use their own resources to their advantage instead of getting infinite gibs.

This expansion teaser is weird. It felt more like a high budget teaser to an animated short about the FFXIV cast going on vacation as opposed to being about the next expansion. I'm not really feeling it besides that the trailer looked nice. I'm willing to hear this out, but honestly I wonder if FFXIV has just ran its course for me as a story and I might want to just check out at this point especially if 7.0 doesn't grab me. Endwalker 6.0 was overall fine even if it has some really rough parts for me, but the patch stuff is not helping me stay engaged at all. I remember feeling this way after Stormblood until the literal end of it when Varis went full speech mode to grab my attention for a handful of minutes. Maybe 6.5 will do that, but I kind of doubt it. I mean hey it kept me for about 10 or so years, so that's an achievement I suppose.

I genuinely hate that the game became popular around Stormblood. The type of fucking retards it brought makes me wish we could strangle people through computer/TV screens. That we're finally going to the New World makes me happy as fuck. Finally getting to see the fantasy version of the Americas is exciting but of course these retards cry out "MUH RACISM!" I'm wondering what the fuck racism they're talking about in Stormblood because I never noticed any. If they well and truly mean the salt thing then what the fuck? The Ala Mhigans are taking advantage of their natural resources, as you said, to make money to rebuild their country. How is that a bad thing? Is it bad that the people of Thavnair are also using their natural resources to make money? That the people of Garlemald are going to be using theirs to make money to rebuild? Actually... They're probably unhappy about the Garleans because they call them Nazis. Fuck these absolute retards, I'm happy we're going to the New World because we finally get fuckin TACOS and alpacas!

These types hate Ul'dah with an undying passion, so they're probably presuming that the Ala Mhigans live like slaves in a salt mine so some capitalist can get their 5th golden chocobo or some shit. I mean to me Ala Mhigo has historically had problems economically that they needed to try and steal the Twelveswood (very good idea, let's raid the living forest), just to have some actually useful natural resources. So actually having means to trade like everyone else is genuinely a boon for them so long as the trade is fair.

If you read Ala Mhigo's history, the only time Ala Mhigo was economically effective was when they were pretty much a part of the FFXIV version of the silk road from Aldernard ("Eorzea") to Othard (Doma/Bozja/Hingashi), Ala Mhigo just so happened to be smack dab in the middle of the land route so they heavily taxed traders for crossing and escort. Airships eventually made this useless so they struggled almost immediately once that advanced occurred. Otherwise all Ala Mhigans could do was mercenary labor, because Ala Mhigo is a fucking dust bowl where only people with strong backs can reasonably survive. Which probably means they lacked the capital and infrastructure to actually use the salt mines like say the modern Ul'dah society could, which is why the whole Ul'dah and Ala Mhigo salt trade initiative was needed.

Ala Mhigo is historically unstable when it comes to economics overall as their mad emperor pissed off so many people with his greed and wealth hording that he died in a coup about 15 to 20 or so years ago, which due to Garlemald's counter invasion would ensure everyone stayed broke right after said coup.

Though perhaps all of that is racist too, even though every single nation is some levels of fucked up by just looking at the basic broad strokes of their history that Ala Mhigo beyond literally one guy is actually relatively tame. At least Ala Mhigo didn't have a thousand year war with ancient dragons, or make a pact with a ruthless amoral spirit forest who used to be able to just kill you if you pissed them off just to survive, or are literal pirates with a mostly loose sense of government given how chaotic Limsa's governance was for most of its existence.

If only people knew how to read, then they could maybe see what is actually going on. Good thing FFXIV's story doesn't require reading apparently.

I am, at this point, 200% certain these niggers literally buy level skips, don't read a single word, and get their story takes from discords posting summaries.

Yoshida just needs to put his Japanese racial relationship boots on and have the Scions call everyone a "bunch of fucking banana niggers" in the new world the second we take a step out of our airship, the community will be better for it.

I'm retarded and forgot how to do the quote thing when posts are too long lol. But, huh, they've moved on to hating Ul'dah now? I recall people absolutely fucking HATING Gridania/the Black Shroud because they said the Elezen were xenophobic. Nice to see they've finally moved on to somewhere else.

Actually forgot about the XIV version of the Silk Road thing for Ala Mhigo. Sucks how airships fucked 'em over but that's just how things go I suppose. The salt trade thing with Ul'dah is seriously the best thing they're going to get but of course it's racist because I don't know. They're acting as if it's something akin to how the Spanish had people mining silver and gold for them. Those people didn't really get any compensation for that and actually fucking died but whatever. Oh no what if we somehow help broker a deal with the people of the New World and Ul'dah so they can get silver and gold from the New World? Actually, from what I recall, the New World is rich with ceruleum? I think remember that from the BLU questline, has been a bit since I did it so I could be mistaken. Either way, the perpetually offended people would throw an absolute fit over it.

And, yeah, these types of people don't seem to realize that EVERYWHERE SUCKS in the game. Absolutely no nation is innocent but they always focus on the same ones. Gridania bad because Wildwood Elezen don't trust the Keepers of the Moon or the Duskwights! I guess Ul'dah bad now because they're enslaving the Ala Mhigans! I don't really hear them make a peep about Limsa but that's probably because it's their degen hub. Ishgard bad because they have the dreaded RELIGION! I don't really remember them bitching about Othard or Gyr Abania though. Maybe I missed that... It's honestly very tiresome, though.

Seriously, the Twatter crowd needs to touch some grass; FFXIV racist? Really?

Also wanted to bring up it's very likely that what we've seen so far isn't actually the full trailer as of yet; from what I remember, new expansion trailers usually have a shortened/cut-down trailer showing some teasers, then they release the full trailer showing everything off at a later date. Granted, I have no idea if that's the case here this time around, or when this next potential trailer could potentially be released - a few people have said that there's likely going to be some other fanfest in October(?) that drops the full trailer - but it's possible that we haven't seen everything just yet.

That being said, I am thinking that the new Melee job will be either a one-handed sword or dual-wielding a sword and pistol; there's a few points in the trailer where the WoL's hands are edited to look like he's holding a sword and/or pistol, he has a sword during the temple fight scene, and you can see a gun holster on his leg at one point.

The new Magic job, however, is unknown; a few people were thinking it might be some kind of mutant/alchemist job, given Yoshi-P's t-shirt, but there's nothing confirmed.

Also... don't feel too bad if you get burnt out; a lot of people have been getting tired lately and taking a break, and Yoshi himself said that he wanted to make the game to where people could just take a break whenever.

Also, @The Zekenator

Yeah, the community is beyond retarded at this point; the hatred they have for some of the countries in the game is crazy, what with the constant screech of "Gridania wacist, Ul'Dah greedy capitalist, Ishgard evil religion" and shit like that. Like @Zirnwyb said, I haven't seen much hatred for Limsa, and that's probably because it's the degenerate area. I can understand some of the dislike; the way the "Elementals" in Gridania are written makes them seem like Primals to some extent, the early starter ARR quests in Ul'Dah do kinda set up the Monetarists as antagonists, and Ishgard did have issues with Thordan and the church... but at the same time, these "fans" go way too far with some of their shit.

I am, at this point, 200% certain these niggers literally buy level skips, don't read a single word, and get their story takes from discords posting summaries.

Yeah, this is pretty much it; these "fans" don't actually pay attention to the story, they only exist to spew out their politic shit constantly.

Looking forward to seeing how these retards scream "racist" with the new world; can already guarantee that they're going to be grasping at the thinnest of straws to "prove" a point!

See but that's the thing about Limsa... I very much recall there being women sold into sexual slavery there mentioned during the ACN questline. On top of people just straight up disappearing in the streets and people being assassinated in the streets. It's clearly a shitty place to live yet there isn't really ever complaint about it. It's always the same places over and over.

I know full well that this is a teaser trailer and not the full one, but most teasers have some kind of interesting hook to them. Besides Stormblood I think as we only got the Monk duel in the teaser. Look at Shadowbringers, Heavensward, or Endwalker and you'll see the teaser had generally more going on. I want to see where they go as I want to believe they're trying something, but I dunno. I mean it is hard for me to keep genuine interested in something this long, so I applaud them for that.

Still I want to see how FFXIV does "low stakes" because while extremely rough, I did enjoy the low stakes adventure romp of early ARR and just listening to people talk about themselves and their lives while doing do goodery shit. It's neat and to me big epic high stakes stuff is just too dime a dozen, especially in JRPGs. So I'm okay with a more middling threat relative to ShB or 6.0 EW, just current EW is just not it right now.

I will note though that Gridania is actually xenophobic as fuck and especially in early writings you could very much say they're racist. Even if it is for actual reasons and not some "Ala Mhigger skulls are..." tier logic like the white slavers of the southern USA area. If you can read between the lines and see beyond the Tolkien elves you can realize Gridania is actually quite Japanese with the Elementals representing Shinto Kami spirits and the whole "outsider" attitude with how closed off they are/were (especially in 1.0). It is rather clever how Gridania was designed to embody some Japanese cultural values without just making everything Asian as fuck.

Limsa is also heavily shat on sometimes for being like the colonizing Americans/British/Europeans in-general for outright stealing, as according to the lore both background and in the MSQ, their land from the kobolds through brutal war which is why Titan came out. I've even seen people say ARR is heavily written through a colonist lens (which makes it racist) because Garlemald called everyone savages and everyone has problems with the tempered beast tribe people for obvious reasons. Boy if only ARR had side quest lines you can't fucking miss because they have a unique symbol where we talk to normal beast tribe people who aren't mind controlled and everyone became cool with them by the end of that little story arc, boy if only such things existed.

In the end, only people who are genuinely curious will actually understand this story overall because there's a lot of background information locked behind pretty much books worth of optional text somewhere in this game. You'd need to be very good at putting all the information together which is frankly difficult because it is so scattered in seemingly random places. Did you know that Dragonstar (The original Dravania homeland) was hinted at ever since 2.0 ARR? Me neither until I saw some random fucking Coerthas quest bring it up.

Did you know the Ala Mhigans committed what pretty much everyone would consider a war crime by calling a cease fire and then murdering a famed general of the Gridania military back during a peace meeting while the Ala Mhigan invasion's Autumn War was going on only to then cover it up? That was in the SB Bard quest of all things, and the upright patriotic twin adder general man decided to take that info to his grave because he realized that stuff was a long time ago and none of that shit matters anymore. What a guy, what a racist xenophobic bigot who hates Mhiggers. Gosh FFXIV is really teaching me to hate Mhiggers. Damn racist vidya game.

If you made people actually need to read all this and more to understand everything that lead up to all the events that happen in the MSQ from solely the MSQ, we'd probably have ARR again and no one likes ARR because nothing was "important" enough because all they can remember from ARR is Garleans and a dumb feast, nothing else happened or was said in 2.0 ARR about anyone or anything. Nothing at all. No one learned anything, and it shows.

Gridania gets some of its best work in 2.0 honestly, that one bar in South Shroud is great if you actually read back through that little quest line again. Tl;dr is: Former wood wailer (general?) guy retired and opened a bar where anyone can have a drink, including the poachers without any pushback. Because of this act of general kindness, said poachers help early WoL stop the traitor wood wailer who was selling his country out to Garlemald for money. That's right, the people Gridania hated and hired this militia to stop, would later stop said traitor militia member from conspiring against them to aid their biggest enemy out of greed. The irony was lost on me the first time 10 years ago, but I did it again about 2-3 years ago and I caught it this time.

XIV twitter can complain about shit all they want (YoshiP saying black people aren't relevant from FF16, the "Far Northern" optional item set, now Mexico) but they'll still praise the game and consoom because the free trial is now up to Stormblood.

I fucking hate irl gray parsers.

The Fall Guys collaboration announcement made me laugh my ass off, that was unexpected but funny as fuck. Shoutouts to E9S.

I'll say in defense of Limsa in that they were the proactive in giving Garleans a hard time by making it legal for pirates to steal from them, also slavery is illegal. Their problem is they are the cause of their own problems starting with the beastmen treaty they violated.
And it amazes me that Godbert causes so much seethe when he was very reasonable for saying handouts are not a good idea. There are real life immigrants who manage to uplift themselves with only the shirt on their backs.
