Why is that name so popular as a character name? If you include different spellings there are over 20 of them. (none of them are my characters)

I'm leaning that the unnamed entity who overwatches the gods is going to be the final encounter in the third raid. In fact, I'm placing money down that the ending to this entire raid, and I can see it coming from a mile away, is that the gods are setting themselves up to basically die and get recycled into the aetherical sea to become mortals. That's what they're dreaming about essentially.

The MSQ, however, I have no idea how the hell they're going to wrap that arc up in 6.4. There's two ways I see that going down; one, either they flood the thirteenth with light and grant the denizens death basically. Or two, they find a way to purge darkness and reverse the corruption restoring the denizen's original forms paving way for 7.0. I genuinely have no idea what they're setting up.
Now that I'm caught up

I definitely do not think that "flood of light" on the Thirteenth is even remotely feasible as there's no feasible means of accomplishing it. We're not suddenly going to turn into reverse Ascians like that. Don't forget the whole plot point that any realm that tips too far aetherically in one direction or another causes a calamity upon the Source. We're trying to avoid that entirely.

What's more likely is the potential that we rebalance the Thirteenth, especially given that we have former denizens of the Thirteenth currently residing upon the First (Cylva and Unukalhai) and that, ever since the combined Role questline for Shadowbringers, they've been looking for a way to restore the Thirteenth especially after seeing how we've started to restore balance back to the First.

I just wanna say that I really love the new onsen house. I got myself the cottage and I gatta say, having my own little hotspring right in my backyard is really neat.

Didn't get around to listen to the orchestral orchestrion rolls before now, they're quite good.
Makes me want to play through Shadowbringers again.

I was just getting around to listening to them too, and man they knocked it out of the park. The orchestra arrangement for the ending of Shadowbringers blows the ending of the regular version out of the water (the rest of it suffers from "orchestra playing rock" sound). To The Edge is probably the weakest transfer to the orchestra and it still has some really cool moments. I think I may even prefer orchestra Close the Distance with the drums on the chorus to the original. And of course Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Flow are almost 1:1 with their original, just with real instruments, which makes them pretty definitive imo. Especially Flow, which I think is Soken's best work (and I say this as a guy who thinks the community gushes over the guy a little too much).

Only one gripe - what the FUCK were they thinking hiring a trumpet player with that bright of a sound? He gets away with it on most tracks but holy shit he pretty much ruins Endbringer with how prominent he is and sounds like he belongs in a mariachi group.

Saw this posted on JP Twitters yesterday and I'm trying to figure out how Bloodwhetting and Thrill modify the 300 potency cure value of Shake It Off enough to produce 7-10 million+ HP's worth of healing.
Ive seen one or two posts that alleged that they only triggered the glitched heal in a solo duty

This tweet happens to showcase one of the areas that the glitch was triggered in was out in the front yard of personal housing, which isn't solo instanced.

Some of the tweet replies to what Fcret posted even have people saying they managed to trigger the glitch in the new EX at that.

On another note: Holy shit, people already have the PvP milestone glamour? That's some serious no-life. Most I've progressed so far on that is tier 11 from a few hours worth of PvP queues.

So I figured I'd download the free trial and give this game a try. I haven't played an mmo since WoW back during cata, so what am I in for?

A lot of story which is probably the best in the MMO market currently. My recommendation is to just chill and enjoy the leveling experience (which is like 300 something hours at this point).

Gameplay wise, the game's core design basically took Cata/Panda-era WoW, applied it to the class fantasies of the old version of the game, and then refined it. Classes underwent a fair bit of homogenization over the last two expansions but they generally still 'feel' distinct in playstyle and you probably won't get bored of them until you've sunk nolife hours into the game.

If you haven't picked a starting class yet, I'd recommend one of the tanks (marauder or gladiator) because they do the best in the mandatory solo content and give you quick queues. Tanking is generally pretty easy in this game for most content and you won't have to be 'good' at it until you start doing hard endgame stuff. Alternatively, arcanist is a good pick because it turns into a DPS (summoner) and a healer (scholar) at level 30 and the two jobs that spin off from it share levels so you get two roles for the price of one. Summoner is probably one of the easiest DPS to play casually atm and it does good damage so it's a solid pick overall to experience the story with.

Culture-wise, the game is a bit of a hugbox but that's not necessarily a bad thing while leveling. Tell people you're new when queuing into something new for the first time and you'll generally get a lot of leeway to fuck things up and learn.

I don't know enough about WoW and its update history but there's a system where you can join a bunch of randos to do dungeons with you so you don't have to go around looking for people. Other features that may feel very alien to you:
  • You don't need to create alts, all classes can be used and swapped between one character.
  • No racial bonuses. There's a slight difference when starting out but it doesn't matter in the long run.
  • Be wary of trash talk, the GMs take reports seriously and some players can be real thin skinned. Though I think this is just a modern game thing in general.
  • There aren't any builds here. Think of a class like it's a fighting game where you pick one you feel comfortable playing as.
  • There's no elemental affinities here. See that flaming monster? Fire or ice attacks does not give you any advantage or disadvantage over it.
Remember that this is a Final Fantasy first and foremost rather than an MMO with the franchise tacked onto it, so expect it to be story heavy.

As someone whose first and only MMO is XIV, I can't entirely confirm it myself but I've seen people mention that in other MMOs the older optional expansion content is usually regarded as not worth doing compared to the modern content but in this game it's still worth it. The game is even built so that you can still get the help of other players in older raids and boss fights in normal difficulty content cause it has a system to put people in there for the sake of leveling your other jobs. The only exception is the raid series in the base game, A realm reborn, cause it was made back when raids didn't really have a distinction between normal and difficult so it's not included in the system that matches you with other players.

Only WoW is really egregious in that since Wrath they've basically dumpstered every expansion when a new one comes out. SWTOR, ESO and Guild Wars 2 all have you go through the original story unless you buy a skip like in FF14.
Where FF14 shines though is that you're never constantly pushed towards "endgame". You don't get put into noob pvp if you haven't reached the latest content. Old dungeons and raids are not dead. There are good looking crafted sets even at lvl 50. When you reach current content gearing is quick and easy. Etc.

They finally acknowledged it, so it's gonna get fixed tomorrow.

"under certain conditions" :story:

You mean "under one of the most common conditions for using this skill?" Raw Intuition + Thrill have pretty much always been worth dumping into Shake it Off.
