Back on topic, I never much looked at XIV, nor really cared about it in the least for nearly a decade.
Continuous exposure to these fucking weirdos through this site has now exacerbated an open disdain for everything XIV related.
To put it into perspective, the most exposure I received to FF XIV in the past was during the continuous, ceaseless PR disaster Activision Blizzard was going through a couple of years ago, and how it spawned a host of certifiably braindead nigger cattle content creators advocating for a migration from WoW to FF XIV as an act of protest, which I think is what made the game even more popular.
I swear to fucking God I couldn't browse Youtube in those months without the algorithm shoving twelve different videos of the noodle-armed, slack-jawed, dead fish face Asmonfaggot or whatever his fucking name is, the penultimate normie content creator who lives in a filthy, mold-infested ogre den and is involved in charity fraud, that I am somehow supposed to find poignant and cutting-edge.

And today, as a certified tourist who stays in his ever-shrinking lane of the Internet and tries to stay away from these faggots, my prejudice dictates that its most involved fans have some kind of severe mental illness, are almost assuredly some kind of gross troon, or at the very least a porn addict on the way to become one, generally the type of person who networks with fetish artists, has spent hundreds if not thousands on his fetish-fuel OC donut steel engaged in some depraved ERP goon circle.

The person who shared this with me (it was back in 2021) is a former XIV player in remission, who said to me that the reason for its built in promiscuity are the very social interactions/housing, as well as fetish-fuel character races, citing how certain hubs (whatever you wanna fucking call them) are ERP havens. I now understand people who associate this disaster to that colossal dumpster fire that is Second Life.

If there are a XIV equivalent of popufurs, I would love to see their antics catalogued and their filth dragged into the sunlight. Especially the wannabe second life rat kings like the billboard pedo.
And especially those fucking losers who take their characters way too seriously. Please allow me to see how hideous these groomers look in real life, and put their ugly mugs next to their slutty catgirl toon or the depraved art they commissioned, so I can point and laugh at them.
 
Crystal DC is an utter mess of RP bullshit. Which, great for them; you do you. But if I wanted to be faced with Goldshire on Moon Guard levels of horny bullshit, I'd go play WoW.

I think the weirdest thing I've encountered is that there are a LOT of RPers who just do everything in /say. Group up with your RP partners and stop subjecting everyone else to it.

The only thing tethering my sanity is the fact I REFUSE to interact with anyone in game. If I'm in a dungeon or a Trial, it's Yo, GG, and a player commendation. Nothing more, nothing less

Yes. Server I play on luckily isn't as cancerous. The occasional shout with the retarded ass DJ/Brothel crap but filtering shouts has brought me great peace. I look forward to this thread getting out of PG. Alot of what's in the OP was discussed in the FFXIV Kiwi thread, I was wondering when someone was willing to do a deep enough dive into the insanity and degeneracy some of these fuckers get up to.

I... didn't even know this game ran that deep in how nonsensical it is. It really is just a modern day Second Life. I'm not even into this game but hearing my friend's past experiences with it (it was years ago so I don't remember much lol), I would have never thought it'd be something like... this. Though, I'm being a bit autism here since stuff like this is expected nowadays.

The person who uploaded that video is Nariko Star, wife of Kaiyoko Star. Some players may recognize the name as the degenerate that does the 'fashion report' so people can get a quick win with the Gold Saucer shit and get mgp points to buy crap. Lately he's a Vtuber or some shit. Kaiyoko and Nariko are into some pretty gross diaper stuff.

Nariko, was at one point, a community rep for Square Enix and apparently she was a massive thunder cunt. There was a shit storm about it some years ago but I'm having a hard time finding out what it was, it was probably swept up. The above pictures have been in the ffxiv thread in the gaming section, so now I can bless the rest of you with this horrifying content.
 
FF14 has some of the best silly/fun mods I've seen in a game. Yes, give me a mod that turns a minion (non-combat pet) into a KFC, that is something I can have fun with. All the ERP garbage really makes it gross, though. I tried finding fun mods for my chocobo companion (a combat pet) once, to see if I could make it some other monster, like a moogle. The first mod listed? Chocobo dicks. Well, I could try searching with the term "moogle". Oh, moogle dicks. :cryblood:

The nightclub spam is awful. The free company recruitment spam is almost as bad. The majority of both advertises as LGBT friendly. New players in the Novice Network chat are frequently told that engaging in ERP is an easy way to earn in-game currency. My first day in the Novice Network as a returning player, a mentor was creeping on sprouts (new players) and got banned from the game. This game is rated as Teen/13+.

But it's an MMO, so make some friends and have fun with them, right? It can't just be open degeneracy everywhere, right?

At least my chocobo races haven't been tainted by the ERP crowd. Yet.

Sometimes, though, people manage to have fun in the game in a way that I can appreciate. This made me laugh. Stuff like that, the mods that are actually fun, small bits of the game I can manage to enjoy keep me playing.

edit to add: Yes, I am on a congested server.

Yeah, there's a lot to slog through with this game and the stupid-ass community that surrounds it.

I'd recommend maybe clarifying some things for people who aren't familiar with the game. This is just a thought dump, feel free to use/not use as needed:

One of the big things being the fact that the game is championed as a 'casual friendly' game. This means that the bulk of the game's content is piss easy to wade through, there is actual moderation for stuff that would be common place Trade/Barrens/Public chat in WoW or other online games, and the devs encourage players to put down the game and stop playing.

A lot of this has contributed to a very entitled attitude in the community, manifesting in a myriad of ways. The most obvious (and potentially benign) being the now parodied line of XIV being a 'great, welcoming community', unlike those meanies in Other online games (primarily WoW, but literally any other game.) This creates an atmosphere of toxic positivity that radiates throughout the game -- people are afraid to give any sort of criticism to another player because it's not nice (and they could be banned!) and so on and so forth.

Which brings me to the game's best representatives of what I'm talking about and the worst thing added to the game with the Mentor system.

Mentors are intended to be unofficial guides to new or lapsed players, helping them learn the ropes and get started in the game. In theory, they're meant to answer basic newb questions ("where do I go to do [basic game function]?", how do I unlock [thing]?, etc.) but in reality it's used primarily for the global chatroom with the barrier to entry being laughably easy to attain. You can be utterly clueless in the game (and many, many mentors are) and still be a 'mentor.'

The only real 'benefit' this gives players is a stupid little crown icon next to their in-game name and the ability to kick and invite people from the aforementioned global chatroom (Novice Network.) That's literally it, and yet there are folks who let even that small, small bit of power go to their head, lording over NN like their own private kingdom and encouraging play habits that fit their 'style' (but are generally not great in the longterm.) There are a lot of moronic, spergy mentors on each server and I'm sure players will be able to contribute their own pet lolcow mentors and/or content creators, like the aforementioned Kaiyoko Star.

For me, it's Wesk Alber. I discovered him because YouTube recommended some of his new player guides to me. Apparently he is a pissy tyrant, sounds like a sped, and spergs out on his Twitter. He's a good example of how people try to be 'helpful' in this game and is one of the few things people can do for content creation. It's also led to weird cult-like groups cropping up.)

This leads to players interacting with one another out 'in the wild' and being precocious little shits to one another. Things like having gear that is equivalent to your level, or using spells appropriate to your level is largely condoned or even simply using your abilities can cause players to tard rage out. The subreddit Tales From the Duty Finder has some great arguments in favor of bullying.

It can also revolve around benign shit like where you idle your character. There was a big to-do from a character by the name of Miriye Scarletide standing in a popular AFK spot on the Ultros server a few years ago, because someone was standing in 'their' spot. Which led to some counter-trolling. (As you might gather, XIV, being a hugbox for aspies and troons alike, leans very left-wing, and the person who was having a meltdown over his bench was also "problematic" for their opinions on various things, as shown in the screenshots. This is one of the few areas people in this game will chase you down and hunt you like a dog for because the Terms of Service more or less expressly forbid talking about that shit if even one person objects and because they have to maintain the illusion of the game's 'community' being sunshine and roses.)

This also manifests within the modding community. Because FFXIV is a Japanese game and Japanese gamers largely play on consoles vs PCs, the game has a 'no third party tools' policy that is largely ignored by everyone, sometimes hypocritically so. This can come in the way of drama with people using zoomhacks (or other things) to beat content, or with the modding community.

The modding community is really where the Second Life bullshit really manifests. Tons of flipped assets that people charge other folks to use, combined with a tool that allows you to 'share' modded content (MARE) leads to folks sharing all sorts of horrific shit with one another.

The game has 'adventurer profiles' where you can put a little comment. Anyone who has the auto-translate text of 'Mare Lamentorum' means they're using this particular addon.

Despite the moderation against harassment/disruptive behavior, the devs largely take a hands-off approach to modding or third party tools. It's a sort of don't ask, don't tell, and has led to all sorts of drama and lolcow antics.

Examples from the Games XIV thread:

- That weird skunk ERP freak
- The 'melinated' mods for characters who 'should' be black
- The author of a modding tool more or less injecting malware because they got into a tizzy over some drama

The vast majority of modded content of course revolves around ERP and the such. With the pornsickness creeping into just about every facet of the game if it's doable.

Other shit to include:

- the schizo dude who accused Xeno of grooming minors
- that weird ass freak on YouTube that was posted in the last few pages on the XIV thread
 
I personally think the game is fine and a bit fun (though WoW will always be more for me anyway), but I definitely agree that there is a lot of degeneracy in this community.

Also OP, I have to ask: Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award-winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.
 
To add context, Balmung isn't just an unofficial RP server but it's popularity is also due to it being a legacy server so it has been around forever.

ERP is also not so much accepted by SE but I don't think it's something they are actively trying to prevent. It's not done publicly so unless you are parsing every single message for key phrases and paying a team to review it all I don't think it's that easy to crack down on. I think they rely on player reports but their reporting tools aren't good enough, and they don't spend enough time having the GMs at least glancing at the party finder ads every once in a while. They could do more to keep people in line, but I also understand that there's only so much you can do.

The nightclub scene isn't all brothels and ERP roleplay. Wait until you discover the gambling scene. They play pretend casino and run shitty dice games in their homes. Everything else is a bar/nightclub that does use the in game jukebox but they require you to tune into their shitty twitch stream where they play some shitty EDM mix. If it's a popular club it's like 20 people all AFK dancing while the owner spams chat about all the "lovelies" and spamming the twitch link.

Don't forget the no-lifers who are literally only known for being that weirdo who does a thing but does it every moment of every day. People literally pay minimum $12.99 a month so they can park their character in a city entrance, and make it dance in place for weeks on end.

The real name of the game though is nepotism. It is core to literally every single aspect of the playerbase. It doesn't matter what you do, whether it's PvE, PvP, raiding, open world, doesn't matter. FFXIV is easily the most insular dick sucking playerbase I have ever seen, and I've played a lot of MMOs. Every single aspect of the game has it's own little clique. There is no community wiki because data isn't shared and collaborated it's privatized on discord servers or across numerous websites. This is so that each person can wall off their own specialty and control who has access to it. Be ready to have folders for all the bookmarks, google docs, and discord servers you'll need. They all think the run these massive communities when in reality people just want to know what to sell on their island this week.
 
I hate the modded FFXIV community. It’s no wonder it’s filled with sex pests trannies with all the kinky, revolting shits you can get with mods. The fact that you can play as a uwu cat girl certainly attracts these lonely degenerates too!

I played the game for a bit with the free trial stuff, i thought it was pretty good but i stopped since im not really that much of an MMO guy since i don't have much time in my life to play them.
I always knew the community would be a hellscape.
