I prefer the cute ones simply because it's still fantasy world logic. Made up shit like a woman almost as big as Zangieff or a goose ballerina that uses ballet to kick your ass while having rat feet are still pure fantasy and aren't even nice to the eye. It's animoo/fantasy logic at that point, so why not make everything looked stylized and attractive? Your premise is a fantasy anyway, so have it be cool/cute/awesome/sexy/funny or whatever you aim for. MKI's cast all look like shit in a semi attempt to make things grounded and everything looks like ugly cosplayers (which is rich from the game series whose character roster started from cosplayers).

Now if it was something like Virtua Fighter I would agree with your qualm since it tends to be a lot more grounded (leaving aside the fantasy of men and women of different weight classes and combat disciples all competing vs each other) and one would expect the body type of an elite fighter/athlete of the presented discipline. Mmm, thinking a bit more about it, is there any other fighting game that could be classified as "grounded" outside of VF? Tekken left that a long time ago and everything else is so fantastical that you can have a 15 year old in twintails juggling bulls and I would just go with it.

Don't get me wrong; I love small gremlins and fantasy logic, but if you're aiming for that, do that. A normal ass 5ft something woman isn't a sumo grappler. A shortstack with a gremlin vibe or a 7ft buff chick, sure. But giving Maria a karate belt doesn't make her capable of tossing a man.

In fact, that may be why I don't vibe much with SNS designs. They're dangerously normal. If the chicks ain't got huge tits and the dudes aren't brick shithouses, I ain't buying the fantastical vibes. Area from fighting ex layer is beyond scrawny but the nutty nature of the character designs (and a huge gauntlet) justifies it in my head.

I'm looking at the CotW lineup and that one blatant tumblr bait just doesn't pull it off. Like she's not just lean, she's thin. 15% on her limbs would honestly justify it to me.

E: to add to the realism debate, I will admit I am highly biased here but I don't mind the unrealistic designs. I think if a game is super anime in its aesthetics, it doesn't need to adhere to realism because it's inherently realistic. SNK got anime characters running around doing shit with snake people and demons and whatever the fuck NESTS was so I don't expect any of them to be grounded.

That is to say small school girls doing powerbomb on grown-ass men is fine.

Versus something like as stated before Virtua Fighter. Tekken is somewhere in the middle so I think a blend of both would be fine. Same with SF.

That ship sailed with SNK games ages ago, Athena you can just bullshit up that she's a psychich/esper or whatever, but Yuri is the Sakura of the franchise and is a school girl kicking full adults asses with Ki waves. Preecha's problem is more that she's too basic. When I look at her, first impression I get is she's related to Joe, so a pupil of sorts, and that due to her little square thing, seems to be an instragram thot. Then it turns out that her lore is that she's some super genius that is studying under Joe to understand Ki. OK, then, if she's a mad scientest of sorts studying ki, why does she not have some tech on top to enhance her ki techniques? Have her unable to do Joe's hurricanes by herself so she has a leg/arm brace that enables it. Her problem isn't that she ain't stacked because a lot of the SNK roster abandoned that ages ago (and not just the girls, sleepy boy looks like a twirp you should be able to just kick out of the way for example), it's that she has nothing to make her standout outside of "cute quirky glasses girl" and doesn't even properly transmit her lore.

On the realism topic, its somehow easy for me to believe Marie Rose throwing giants dudes around than it is to believe Hinako is a sumo wrestler.

On the fighting game topic, I recently convinced a friend to play Under Night so while he's grinding his fundamentals with me, I'm taking this chance to force myself to pick up some new things. In this case, its Nanase and I'm forcing myself to incorporate her FF in blockstrings and this shit is the funniest thing ever. Being able to jump cancel out of any blockstrings with unique drift momentum is so funny, even though it's a knowledge check that's easy to punish.

I can't stop misinputting though, it's hard since you're supposed to hold down and then do the force function macro and then you do the quarter circle. So it's something like: down B > B+C while holding down > buffer the quarter circle forward while you're still in the minimum frames for Nanase's FF jump cancel > then you press A again for the TK fireball to come out.

In reality, it is not that kind of game, but I felt that those who have not played the game might think so, and I wanted to create an opportunity for them to get to know the game.

Up until “DOAX3,” the game had been available on consumer platforms, and some of the people who had played the game at that time said that they didn't want to play a “messy game” like “DOAXVV” ...... or that they didn't have a PC with high specs and wanted to play the game on a Some said, “I don't have a PC with high specs, so I want it to be released on a home video game console. Since we had not been able to provide opportunities for these people to play the game, we wanted to provide an environment in which they could play the game in some way.

Sakuta: Another thing to tell you is that “DOAXVV” uses a graphics engine based on “DOAX3” as it is a title that has been running for seven years. It is an engine that has been running for quite a long time, about 10 years.

Even after 7 years, “DOAXVV” is still tuned up to draw cute girls, and since we specialize in that area, we are proud to say that we are second to none when it comes to cuteness, but there are limits to the expressions we can draw. However, I also feel that there is a limit to what I can draw. We want to use an engine that can depict graphics at a higher level, and we have also received requests to see such girls. When we put all of these voices together, we decided that it would be best to offer the game in a consumer buy-out format.

--So you were looking at consumer products while you were running “DOAXVV”?

Sakuta: I didn't have a strong desire to release the game on a consumer platform, but I wanted to offer something to those who had not played “DOAXVV”. I was thinking about how I could do that, and over the past year or so, I have come up with a way to do it. In the case of “DOAXVV,” I thought, “Maybe this would make people happy” during the 6th year of operation, so the development of this game began only recently.

--Can you tell us again about the contents of this game?

Sakuta: The genre of this game is “Immersive Love Adventure. There are six girls in the game, and they gradually appear as you progress through the main storyline. You not only communicate with each girl, but there are also episodes in which more than one girl appears, and choices appear in those episodes. Depending on which of the choices you make, the next development, your relationship with the girls, etc. will change, and whether or not your romance with the girls will ultimately be fulfilled? The game is designed for players to enjoy such aspects of the game.

This title is not part of the “DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme (DOAX)” series, but rather the “Venus Vacation” series. The image of the “DOAX” series is that of an island where you go on vacation, visiting different spots and giving swimsuits to the girls, but “this title is completely different. “This film is completely different. On the other hand, the choices I briefly mentioned earlier appear in the middle of the conversation. For example, in “DOAXVV,” when the owner first starts the game at the time of service-in, he meets Misaki and starts a vacation. Of course, we want everyone who is playing “DOAXVV” to enjoy it, but we also hope that people who usually enjoy romance adventure games will play it, and after playing “VV Prism,” they will think, “Let's try ‘DOAXVV’ too! I want people who usually enjoy romance adventure games to enjoy playing “VV Prism”.

We don't want to make the game look less voluminous than other romance adventure games. I hope to make it a work that is worth playing around with, not just clearing one girl, but clearing a variety of girls.

Mr. Sakuta: The reason we chose the six girls to appear in the game is because we wanted to trace the memories of the early days of “DOAXVV” by having Misaki, Tamaki, and Fiona appear in the game, but we also needed girls who met at different times and involved in different ways to make the story more enjoyable. The first year of the project, we had a girl, “Elise”, who is the owner's mentor, but we thought she would make the story more interesting, so we decided to have her appear. I want players to feel that the game is worth playing.

--We hope that the players will feel that it will be worthwhile to play the game.

Sakuta: When creating this game, I was very conscious of the “girlfriend” aspect of the game. In the case of “DOAXVV,” we have delivered such contents, and we feel that the owners are pleased with them. What made us realize this was that the girl named “Nanami” who appeared in the fourth year of the project was also a hit with our customers.

We had been trying to deliver the charms of each of the previous girls, but we felt that there was a demand for a girl who could make people feel that “maybe she likes me”. So we updated True Color in the same direction of romance. In addition, it was also a catalyst for the creation of the current romance adventure. So, I wanted to bring Nami to a new audience with this work.

--Mr. Sakuta: It was a pretty smooth decision, wasn't it?

Mr. Sakuta: I thought about it and made the decision, but I was really worried about how to choose the right one before I made the decision. I received some opinions within the company, and I even received some serious opinions like “Is my favorite Marie-Rose not here? When we announced this work, we received a variety of opinions, but we chose the six girls out of a desire to include all of them. Mr. Sakuta: As I mentioned earlier, one of the goals of this project was to provide an opportunity to get to know the girls you can only meet in “DOAXVV,” so we wanted to give some priority to girls who only appear in “DOAXVV. Of course, the girls who appear in “DEAD OR ALIVE” are also Venus, and it's not that we won't feature any of them, but we want to bring them to you like Honoka did this time. --It seems that you are already looking ahead to the next stage, but do you have any plans to add girls or episodes through DLC?

Sakuta: Basically, we do not plan to add girls through DLC. The reason for this is that, like in “DOAXVV”, you can add girls if you only want to get to know one girl, but in this game, you can choose which girl you want to get to know in this situation, But for this game, we want the players to choose “which girl they would like to get to know better in this situation” and enjoy how the situation is intertwined with the storyline. Adding girls after the fact would be a bit difficult, since we would have to rework the game once again to take into account the combination with other girls, etc. If that were the case, we would have to rework the game again for the next version. If that is the case, I think it would be better to create a new story in the form of the next work.

--I'm sure that would be difficult even if we only add characters.

Sakuta: It is “not impossible” to add episodes. We would like to reflect the feedback we get after the game is actually released. I can't promise that we will be able to do it, but we will take our decision carefully.

--The graphics in this game are much better than in “DEAD OR ALIVE 6”.

Mr. Sakuta: It is difficult to make a clear comparison with “DEAD OR ALIVE 6” because the gameplay and points we want to show are different, but the graphics engine we are using this time is based on the “Katana Engine” that we are researching and developing, and the Katana Engine itself is improving its technical capabilities every year. More than five years have passed since DEAD OR ALIVE 6 was released in March 2019, so it has evolved even further.

This may sound like a weak statement, but “DOAXVV” is a game that is made specifically for the cuteness of the girls, so it's hard to go beyond that with the new graphics engine, and we are still struggling immensely (laughs). (Laughs.) We are doing our best to make everyone think “this is good” as much as possible.

--(Laughs.) When the graphics have evolved so much, did you have any concerns that it would be inferior to the “DOAXVV” game that you are currently running?

Sakuta: Of course, that was one of the first things we thought about. DOAXVV” has been in service for 8 years now, and we would like to continue it for a long time to come. Some people may be worried that the announcement of this game will bring an end to “DOAXVV,” but that is not the case.

The clear difference between “DOAXVV” and this title is that “DOAXVV” is a game where you can change out of your swimsuit and enjoy taking pictures in your favorite poses from your favorite angles, with items such as mist sprayers and fans for shooting, and with things like displacement of the swimsuit when it arrives. It's a game where you can enjoy shooting from any angle you like. Mr. Sakuta: We have prepared a lot of places where you can take pictures in a variety of situations, so I would like people to enjoy imagining various things. Also, as I mentioned earlier, there is a collaboration with “Yomu Sensei”. We had a very enjoyable tie-in swimsuit for “DOAXVV,” and now we have a newly designed swimsuit for this title as well, which will be available in the “Digital Deluxe Edition.

We were discussing what kind of costumes “Yomu-sensei” would like to design, and it was decided that what people are looking forward to is “office wear”, so we asked him to design a new office wear.

Another reason why we asked her to help us with “DOAXVV” was not only because of the cuteness of the girls as illustrations, but also because we felt that the illustrations she drew were very situation-oriented, and we thought it would be cute if she showed this kind of expression in this situation. I bought 6 first, remembering how much I really, really enjoyed playing 2 on the Dreamcast. I wasn't up on current game lore or any of that. I thought the graphics for 6 are pretty good, but the hi-resolution makes the characters look sort of plastic-y... the skin textures are too smooth. my mains in 2 were Bass, Tina, and Jann Lee. In 6 they all look pretty good although they clearly don't spend as much time on the male models as the females, lol.

But, I noticed immediately that there is a high perv factor in the game. I can't use Marie Rose and especially Honoka without feeling like a real creep. These females look way underage but Honoka's got massive tits... twisted, lol.

5 Last Round, IMO, is an all around much better game, despite the perv shit in it. there's more to do and more to see. I even prefer the graphics a bit more, despite the lower res.

The DLC for both is absolutely mind boggling. Who buys all this shit?... Well, I know...the pervs, lol. it's not like you have to buy that stuff though. I don't.

I think Team Ninja just decided to take the easy route and probably the more profitable one deciding to forgo the fighting game altogether to concentrate on their masturbation games (the DOA Xtreme games). If they had just dialed back the pervert shit a bit, without announcing it to the world, DOA might still be a viable fighting franchise. Instead, they angered their perv fanbase by screaming to the world that they wanted to be a FGC (faggots) staple and thusly were going to dial back the thin line pedo and tits shit. Well, they never became a FGC game and the pervs are still angry a them. They've (Team Ninja) gotten what they deserve.

Yeah it's what the franchise is infamous for. It's part of why I have a love hate relationship to the series. I don't care for coom and I get a little uncomfortable but I do really appreciate the gameplay and the music for that matter.

I have a hate-tolerant for Marie Rose. Her fighting style is fun but she's really gross as a concept.

If they had just dialed back the pervert shit a bit, without announcing it to the world, DOA might still be a viable fighting franchise. Instead, they angered their perv fanbase by screaming to the world that they wanted to be a FGC (faggots) staple and thusly were going to dial back the thin line pedo and tits shit. Well, they never became a FGC game and the pervs are still angry a them. They've (Team Ninja) gotten what they deserve
Fortunately or unfortunately that's always been the selling point. And they weren't even consistent with toning down the coom. It's just paid DLC. They sold body pillows in Japan and mouse titty pads.

I'm just waiting for them to absolutely ruin Dynasty Warriors in case they get their hands on it from Omega Force given the mess that was Dynasty Warriors 9 and Warriors Orochi 4.

And Omega Force already appealed to the coomers with Samurai Warriors 4 when they added a character who's entire existence is being a pathetic doomer thot with giant tits.
