It's one thing to write fan fiction, but it's another to publish it, or at least throw it up on Amazon for five bucks where fucktards buy a print/download it on Kindle. Why is that allowed, again?
I've seen people self-publishing their fanfictions before and it baffles me each time. If your story is available for free online, why would anyone buy a copy of it?

Because clearly your writing is so amazing that fans would happily fork over their cash just for a chance to read it. It's the same logic behind these people making entire TVTropes pages and subpages for their fic, it's all about their ego.

I never understood why some people dedicate pages upon pages of details on TVTropes for their little fanfics. Aside from the author, who would even care enough to write a TVTropes page over a measly fanfic? Sure ego is a big part, but it's still so much extra work that is ultimately wasted.

TVTropes in general is pretty unnecessary. I never understood its purpose or how it can be entertaining.

They're convinced their mediocre shippy AU crap is somehow the next great literary work. They probably figure it's worth the extra work.

All TVTropes amounts to is "clever" buzzwords and phrases with a side of ranting about how some My Little Pony side character was done dirty because Pinkie Pie didn't say thank you when they held open a door for her.

They can't recommend their own fic on the "fanfic recs" pages, so they instead waste data space by fabricating a whole page dedicated to it for clicks and no one will bat an eye. Even then, a lot of those fic recommendations don't belong when it's meant to showcase the "10% that aren't shit", yet it still ended up falling under Sturgeon's Law because of spergy readers. Some of those pages were in due part to the readers, which is much more flattering than the writer vomiting one up themselves, but a lot of entries are still "literally who?" fics that aren't even popular in their own fandoms. It's pretty pathetic.

I don't remember who said it whether here or in another thread, but when they said they like looking down smugly at fics that have a 50,000+ wordcount and yet can't even manage to break in ten reviews, they have a point there.

Five. Five fucking books. I've noticed this is a trend with fanfiction, extremely long works are revered because people unfamiliar with the writing process think longer = better quality. Because if the author wrote so many words it must be good, right?

Genre fiction in general. It was a dark day when people decided a trilogy wasn't enough.

I visited this person by total accident when I was looking around on Fanfiction. And she is totally autistic. How is she autistic? Just look at the type of fics she writes. She mostly wrote Harry Potter Fanfics. But that's not all.

These stories are your typical Yaoi fangirl fan fics, nothing unusual about that. But then you go on her profile and you see these links

These are some of her revised stories published on Amazon. And you can give her anywhere from 1-5 British Pounds to buy and read them.

You know what Cassandra Clare and E.L. James have in common? When they reworked their shitty fan fiction for publication, they actively went out of their way to hide their shame, the proof in the pudding that they're hack writers. (Though I think Cassandra owned up to it eventually.) It didn't work because the Internet never forgets, but they tried. This person is airing out her dirty laundry for all to see because it will guarantee her asspats and a quick buck.

Stupid cunt.

This happened to a guy I know in this one particular fandom. He enjoys writing and just wrote a few crossover fanfics regarding a few of his favorite childhood movies in his spare time. He's otherwise very casual in these fandoms and is more focused on his original works. It's the real spergs who put his stuff on a high pedestal and effectively regard what he's written as canon.

I've seen people self-publishing their fanfictions before and it baffles me each time. If your story is available for free online, why would anyone buy a copy of it?

Some people like physical books, some people want to support artists they enjoy.

Never read Fallout Equestria, and I'm dubious about monetizing work that clearly derivative.

Because someone somewhere will buy it. Throw something online for a measly 3-5 dollars, some one will throw money at it. All because they got money burning in their pocket.

From i remember (someonewrote about it on another site) there was a fanfic sequel that happens at about the same time where if FO:E was taking Fallout 3 and turn the dark and edge to 11 then Project Horizons was a 12 and it gets even beyond that when it gets really edgy to the point that people that had gotten used the original fanfic were disgusted by PH
As for horrible, vile fanfics he's a fewi read about that just prove some should not write:
Angel of Death a Mary Sue/DOCTOR MENGELE pairing and the Maary sue burns a village of innnocent jews
Anyway she wants it (Oh fuck this is one of the fucked up i have seen in a wile) Terrible spelling making it hard to figure what is going on (It's a mlp fanfic where the character the fandom named Dinky watches some vore on a computer and when she goes to do something else she lets it running, Derpy finds it and as a complete retard decides to vore her kid? Oh after that murder she makes up with her oc kid Danky), vore, incest, they refer to themselves as human beings, eat mexican food, has an anti-judaism tract disguised as a anti Celestia worship, it's narrated from pov of a pair of breasts, it's part of a trilogy (the second increase the incest aspect and all i can need tosay about part is the name of Ten Pounds of Fetus and Mouthwash)
Chibi's Usa's 7th birthday (titular character gets raped by her parents and their friends wtf)
The Coming of Munihausen (Just NOPE)

The worst thing about Project Horizons wasn't the rape fetish, or the amputee fetish, or the merging fetish, it was Somber's passive-aggressive fishing for praise and constant whining about how much his life sucks and how writing Project Horizons is the only thing keeping him from killing himself. It was like reading fanfiction written by Marvin the Paranoid Android.

"It's a horrible story and you’ll probably hate it. And you’ll hate me too. It's OK to hate me because I'm worthless and I deserve to die."

Even though it's pretty autistic, I'll still admit I read fanfiction occasionally. Sometimes it's good. Usually it's not. I'm a fan of the Danganronpa video game series and here's something really nice involving a horse. Even if you're not familiar with the games, you should give this 'piece of art' a good read. https://archiveofourown.org/works/16318454/chapters/38171903
This thread is for horrors. There's a good fanfic thread in the art and literature section.
