Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

The shutdown comes in response to news that Facebook has been using Apple’s program for internal app distribution to track teenage customers with a “research” app.

That app, revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, was distributed outside of the App Store using Apple’s enterprise program, which allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones. Those apps are only supposed to be used by a company’s employees, however, and Facebook had been distributing its tracking app to customers. Facebook later said it would shut down the app.

This poses a huge issue for Facebook. While Apple provides other tools a company can use to install apps internally, Apple’s enterprise program is the main solution for widely distributing internal apps and services. In an email, a Facebook spokesperson said “I can confirm that this affects our internal apps.”

In a statement given to Recode, Apple said that Facebook was in “clear breach of their agreement with Apple.” Any developer that breaches that agreement, Apple said, has their distribution certificates revoked, “which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data.” Apple declined to comment on shutting down all of Facebook’s internal apps in an email to The Verge.

Revoking a certificate not only stops apps from being distributed on iOS, but it also stops apps from working. And because internal apps by the same organization or developer may be connected to a single certificate, it can lead to immense headaches like the one Facebook now finds itself in where a multitude of internal apps have been shut down.

Apple and Facebook have already been bickering over privacy, but this is the first instance of Apple taking an action that directly shuts down some of Facebook’s activities. Last March, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticized Facebook’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal, saying, “I wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were running the company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later said the comments were “extremely glib” and spoke of Apple as a company that “work hard to charge you more.”

It's a broad push that encompasses everything from dragging people on Twitter for some milquetoast opinion or joke they shared a decade ago, banning them from social media or secretly restricting their access to the service, limiting access to payment processors, internet hosting and sometimes even physical banks, directly contacting employers to get them fired, etc. etc.

I'm just confused because statistically, White supremacy and White separatism is a statistical blip, compare to other groups. Even if you compiled all the White supremacist violence in a year you couldn't get even a fraction of a month of Islamic or Gang violence. So the fact that they are even focusing on this is bizarre. So guys, I am new to this thread, but why is white pride or supremacy even a thing? Why are people wanting to be proud of being generic or dull? White guys are the most boring generic thing in the world. I would know, I am probably the whitest person by just being a ginger. Still, white people are boring and dull. Why would anyone be proud of that?

Facebook itself is really boring and dull with nothing but old people's pictures of even more boring places. So you have people who are boring and dull being proud of being boring and dull on a platform that is boring and dull. And people on this site are defending this generic boring and dull inception? Really?!

The Nazi's at least had style and fashion, but white people are just fucking boring as hell. Hell, American white people just fuck it up when they try to emulate it unless it is amazon trying to attack it. I would say we should allow White Supremacist content to be banned from facebook to prevent further embarrassment. Look at kekistan for god sakes. Most White Supremacist content you would find on facebook won't be much better than that clusterfuck.

Whether you agree with any of the opinions expressed by PragerU or ZeroHedge (I take almost an opinion with a grain of salt, at minimum, regardless of source), people warned about the shadow banning a while back, and when it got too noticeable, they changed how they were doing it. If it was a matter of providing tools to the users to allow them to "curate their feeds" (pretty much Jack's own words from the JRE ep with Tim Pool mercilessly sodomizing him and his corporate laywer), that'd be entirely different.

But they're not, they're designing algorithms to alter what's shown, well before most people have the option of making a decision about whether they want it on their feed or not.

Left love to paint McCarthy as a lunatic seeing commies in every shadow, but those who actually read up on history know that progressive, liberal and outright communist ideas infiltrated the US in all levels, almost 100 years ago. Ridicule to marginalize valid point is straight out of Alinsky.

Facebook is a dull place anyway. Not much is lost from being booted and we get rid of an embarrassing group of autists in the process. I call it a win win unless we want to document those dull boring people.

Erasure of Roots? Kin? Heritage? Really? Most of that has been erased anyway because people forget the ideas and concepts that are substantive to focus on boring fluff like eugenics and white superiority or even diversity.

Rule of Law, Governing by Consent, Social Contract, Scientific Method, Empiricism are all hard concepts and require distinct policy directives. Most of what I have seen from White Supremacists is just recycled fluff and empty promises. At this point, you are all as empty and vapid as the PC snowflakes demanding safespaces for being "marginalized".

Most of the policy suggested by these groups either is reactive to PC libtards or just retreads of clumsy ideas that already failed several times before.

Identity politics is a dumpster fire. You though want to instead of letting the thing burn while laughing at the idiots who started the disaster; you want construct your own dumpster fire to have as your dumpster fire to cherish?! As a lolbert I fucking hate people who say this. That's not an argument. We're not arguing that facebook should be in legal trouble. Companies are free to do what they want and we're free to criticize them and say they're wrong. Not every statement is an advocacy of government policy.
