I remember back when I used Facebook over 10 years back. Everyone would easily have their accounts hacked and would spam fucking adverstiments. The site always had shit security.
It was and still is notorious for phishing scams, which is a step down from actual hacking but the fact its still so common is still bullshit. Join any popular group on there and your spambox will be filled with messenger requests from bot accounts within a few days.

Facebook had 2.8 billion active users in 2021 so this is roughly one sixth their entire userbase. This pales in comparison to the leaks of 10.8 billion people's details as a result of some popular camwhoring program, which is probably the biggest leak of user data.

Imagine actually using real information on facebook and being surprised when this happens.
Imagine linking your fucking phone number to facebook.

I get that any site can have a security flaws, but for fuck sack Facebook, at least Email or notify you have a security breach. At least Gab tell there client there security is breach and change there pass word when that happen.

As if that data is not already exposed when you give it to Fb. the hackers simply got the data but without paying for it, not like fb didn't sell that shit.

Big if true, I wish a database leak would be public but you know skiddies are just gonna sell this shit back and forth instead. A fed can dream, huh...

This doesn't sound like a hack at all and sounds like someone just scraped the data from publicly facing profiles. So, uh, it's information literally everyone already had access to.

I use Facebook, have for a decade. But my name and otherwise unused email are the only real info I ever filled in there. Would be dumb to consider anything you put in your profile there as private, even if you mark it as such in there. If it could hurt FB it would be great tho.

I do not want to sound paranoid, but whenever a large corporation claims their data has been "hacked", I often instead hear "we sold them via illegal means, and are in the process of covering any traces".

Caveat emptor, not ever being a facebook user, but I suspect the only way to "delete" your profile is to do something mind numbingly tedious like manually delete every interaction you can and then replace the data in your profile with nonsense.
There is a script you can find online that does exactly that for you.

You can't see people's emails on Facebook unless if you specifically put it in there, same for phone number.
It could be a public extraction thing like they did with Parler, but doesn't sound like it.

Yeah which is why the article specifies SOME emails. I'm willing to bet it's only SOME phone numbers as well. I could be wrong, but at the moment I kind of doubt it.

thank fuck when I did use facebook it was with a burner account.

I haven't used it in 5 years so idgaf
