Here's the story of undocumented, LGBT+, PoC parents and why they should be given the right to adopt kids and have Obamacare and federal funding despite not getting in legally.
"These people who have no legal background or record whatsoever and are complete unknowns to the system should be allowed to adopt children. Meanwhile, legal citizens with multiple background checks and psychological evaluations should be rejected due to a typo."

The guys in the article didn't adopt, guy A's sister had the baby with guy B's sperm. So the one is her biological dad, the other her biological uncle.

It's worse than that. They hired a surrogate and one of the guys isn't legally her father. As in, zero legal custody whatsoever if(when) he tries to enroll her in school, visit her in the hospital, sign forms on her behalf, request her records, etc. This is going to blow up in horrible fashion sooner or later, especially if her mother is still legally her parent (which she probably is).

TL,DR: Gay illegal immigrant couple knows their situation is precarious, exploits loophole and adopts a kid anyways, now they're mad because their loophole abuse is coming back to bite them.

I know EF is trying make these guys seem sympathetic, but parts of this article still made me think "what did they think was going to happen?". I do feel bad for the kid though, her parents' legal shenanigans are going to cause all kinds of problems for her independent of DACA/Trump.

EDIT: This article refers to Latinos as "Latinx"... I thought that was just a Phil thing. And how is it offensive to say "Latino" when you mean two men?

Also, from the last paragraph:

Sure thing, I'll be happy to pay for smugglers to get you into Somalia

Once Contreras and Alfaro began researching their options for having kids, they learned that immigrants with green cards can adopt, but undocumented immigrants can’t.
With adoption out of the picture, the couple of 4 years asked Alfaro’s sister to be a surrogate for them using Contreras’ sperm. His sister agreed.
After countless doctor’s appointments and three months of missing work due to pregnancy complications, she gave birth to their daughter.
Many LGBTQ+ folks aren’t able to find a surrogate (or sperm donor) as easily as Alfaro and Contreras, but those who are citizens may adopt one of the 100,000 youth in the foster system who need homes. Undocumented LGBTQ+ people don’t have that same right.

If you are not a citizen then you shouldn't be adopting our children. I'm going to guess that the sister used as a surrogate is undocumented as well. Congratualtions on creating a future for your child that is likely to be a legal nightmare.

At one of Aaliyah’s recent checkups, the doctor was confused about what Alfaro’s relationship was to the baby since his name isn’t on her birth certificate. The doctor chose to list Alfaro as Aaliyah’s uncle instead of her dad, which deeply angered the couple and could very well have far-reaching consequences in the future.

Well first off, you are her uncle. And second, you are undocumented. So unlike in a normal situation where the same sex partner can adopt the child, you can't. All those problems that this kid will have are your fault and it was very selfish to do this.

While Aaliyah is covered by her birth mother’s health insurance, neither Contreras nor Alfaro have any. Both medical assistants who work for the same company, the pair once received insurance through their employer, but their job no longer provides this benefit.
Paying full-price at the doctor is expensive, so they avoid going whenever possible. When Contreras ended up in the emergency room this past July, the doctors saw him for 20 minutes and prescribed him some antibiotics. He later received a whopping $600 bill for the visit.
Many undocumented immigrants rely on the emergency room and community health clinics to receive health care. Some of them have to resort to crowdfunding to get the medical care they need.

This is why ERs are overcrowded with people who have sniffles or some other non-emergency and everyone who has an emergency sometimes can't even find a seat. This is why clinics have long lines and you are told to get there before dawn and stand outside in line and hope for the best.

I really have that Latinx thing. I think it's similar to how you see "folx" now. It's not gender inclusive enough or something. I refuse to use it. Latino is fine. Same with dumb things like cis. It's troon and normal. End of story.

What is the deal with being undocumented? Why aren't they trying to become citizens? Is it that complicated? I don't know much about the process. If they go to Immigration and say they want to become citizens what happens? Are they automatically deported?

Showing off and being selfish cunts often go hand in hand

"Undocumented" is the polite term for "illegal". There isn't a way for illegal immigrants to become citizens for obvious reasons and Trump is trying to rescind an Obama-era executive order called DACA that gave permanent resident status to some illegal immigrants (including the ones in this article).

He's rocking a $400+ dollar Hermes belt, I'm sure he'll be fine.

Have any of you read the bios on the EF staff page? Because those are incredible.

https://everydayfeminism.com/about-ef/about-the-team/

Some excerpts from random bios:

"Alicia Soller is a first generation-born Filipinx American digital storyteller committed to uplifting the narratives of communities of color."

"Neesha Powell-Twagirumukiza (she & they pronouns) identifies as an intersectional feminist, womanist, writer, community organizer, facilitator, dancer, freedom fighter, wife, and cat mama. She’s constantly conspiring in the name of liberated Black futures, queer and trans people of color power, solidarity economics, and transformative justice/community accountability. Neesha’s based in a suburb south of Seattle, where she lives, loves, and creates with chosen family."

"He currently writes, teaches high school, runs a decolonial food pop-up, builds spiritual community, loves, co-parents, and instigates non-binary transgender faggotry in Oakland, CA."

"She is actively cultivating her practice as an intersectional feminist, philosopher and theologian, exploring the intersections of art, BDSM and spirituality. "

"Queer, non-binary, transgender, and chronically ill, they are dedicated to centering and amplifying the lives and perspectives of marginalized peoples."

They used to have a staff member that identified as, I shit you not, a "queer unicorn of color"

There's nothing these scummy, envious little people hate more than pee-oh-sees who just go out and be successful instead of wallowing in oppression and crying about whitey.
Their complaints of model minorities these days seems to be towards anyone who doesn't think everything should be handed to them and they can do what they want because of their labels. People who want to get along with others (as in don't hate/blame whitey), work hard and see themselves as individuals instead of victims. Let alone embrace silly social justice labels.

I guess this does mean some new subcategories for the Asian section of the progressive stack: (from lowest to highest) west Asians (China and Japan), Indians (the lighter, the worse they are) and south Asians.

It makes their identity as perpetual victims harder to maintain.

Also, as gender therapist Dara Hoffman Fox said on my podcast, not all genderqueer and non-binary people feel comfortable identifying as trans.

I personally identify as trans, though, because during a recent session with my gender therapist, I admitted that I often look at women and wish I looked more like them. I also told her I feel extreme discomfort with my body hair – which is quite bountiful, since part of my ethnicity is Italian – and I’m seriously considering laser hair removal.

My gender therapist said, “You’re definitely not a cis. Cis men aren’t uncomfortable with their body hair. Cis men don’t look at beautiful women and want to look like them.”

That was a huge relief for me because, up until then, I thought I was just a cis man trying to appropriate trans language to be hip and cool.

Good to know that’s not the case!
It sounds like a troll but the author has a lot of stuff online, so probably not.
