I thought those were psychologists, and those who dealt with disorders and meds were psychiatrists.

Psychiatrists actually have to go to med school, and psychologists don't.
There are different fields of mental health professionals, mostly differing by what kind of treatment they can prescribe. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who can give you medication as they judge fit. I think there are degrees of licensure/certification that affect what kind of drugs a professional can prescribe. Other types of therapists don't have the medical background to give any drugs, but they'll specialize in other things like cbt.

I don't really think its possible to be objective about someone's issues. No such thing as true objectivity everyone views everyone else through their own lens and experience. So maybe a shrink can be somewhat objective but trully objective is impossible.Remember shrinks are only human no matter what they learnt in school.

So many of these sorts of posts start with "We Need to Talk About." Um, no we fucking don't. And you can't make me.

Universal rule of life... any time someone says "We need to talk", they plan to be the one doing all the talking. And you aren't going to like or agree with anything they have to say.

But the tattooer takes one look at you and says, “Your skin tone is a problem.” ... Suddenly you feel sick to your stomach — and not from tattoo nerves. You’ve just been skin-shamed.
A little professional advice that potentially saves you a lifetime of regrets is now SKIN SHAMING!!!

[The one tattooer who did not skin shame me says]problematic skin had lots of freckles and moles since tattooing over and through these can increase a person’s likelihood of skin cancer.
So this is not skin-shaming at all?
And I need citations about tattooing over freckles increases risk of skin cancer. Moles, maybe.

It's ironic how they bring in Japan when those people aren't either color.
I don't know about Japan, but she is pulling shit out of her butt about China. In China tattoos have always been associated with criminals and prisoners. Facial tattoo was in itself a form of minor punishment.

In Japan, I believe, the only people who really get tattoos are yakuza. Japan does not have a rich, proud history of the practice.

Same goes for japan. You can't even enter certain stores, bathouses or beaches if you have visible tattoos.

The other one is "let's unpack [blank]. That one usually means you're going to explain why something I believe or do is bad in a condesending passive aggressive way.

Also, the annoying implication is that they're actually explaining something or analyzing something.

One hundred and nine percent of the time, though, it's just senseless bitching.

I think "we need to talk about" and "let's unpack" are basically just generic title filler used by authors who can't even think of an original title that draws the eye and tells the audience what they'll be reading about. It's the same as fiction books/films and such with "chronicles" or "rise of the" in the title. There's only one thing it tells you clearly: the author doesn't think outside the box.

I also find "This is important" really fucking obnoxious. Little girls at a Ghostbusters premiere meeting the stars or the London Underground making gender neutral announcements is not important in the grand scheme of things. I think we'll reserve that for when a cure for cancer is found.

Mainly because it will also mean curing us of sites like Everyday Feminism.

I think I've mentioned it in this thread before but another headline thing is "____ and why it matters," and it inevitably doesn't, even a little.

Ugh, that's so annoying, and certainly not limited to Everyday Feminism. Basically all the left-leaning news websites like to use that one - Huffington Post, Salon, all of them.

The irony is that it makes (usually) women writers address their audience like the most stereotypical whiny wife/girlfriend characters in a sitcom talk to their husband/boyfriend. "We need to talk about the relationship." It's like they're actively trying to undermine themselves.

Why change society when you can masturbate your self-righteousness?

Here's the story of undocumented, LGBT+, PoC parents and why they should be given the right to adopt kids and have Obamacare and federal funding despite not getting in legally.
TL,DR: Gay illegal immigrant couple knows their situation is precarious, exploits loophole and adopts a kid anyways, now they're mad because their loophole abuse is coming back to bite them.

I know EF is trying make these guys seem sympathetic, but parts of this article still made me think "what did they think was going to happen?". I do feel bad for the kid though, her parents' legal shenanigans are going to cause all kinds of problems for her independent of DACA/Trump.

EDIT: This article refers to Latinos as "Latinx"... I thought that was just a Phil thing. And how is it offensive to say "Latino" when you mean two men?

Also, from the last paragraph:

Ultimately, immigration reform is simply not enough. We need transformative immigration policies in this country so that all types of families can prosper, as they deserve to. We must defy and dismantle borders so that all of us can thrive.

Sure thing, I'll be happy to pay for smugglers to get you into Somalia
