:/ Angela Merkel has been crowned 2015's Person of the Year by Time Magazine:
http://time.com/time-person-of-the-year-2015-angela-merkel-choice/

"And so this time, the woman who trained as a quantum chemist did not run the tests and do the lab work; she made her stand. The blowback has come fast and from all sides. Donald Trump called Merkel “insane” and called the refugees “one of the great Trojan horses.” German protesters called her a traitor, a whore; her allies warned of a popular revolt, and her opponents warned of economic collapse and cultural suicide. The conservative Die Welt published a leaked intelligence report warning about the challenge of assimilating a million migrants:We are importing Islamic extremism, Arab anti-Semitism, national and ethnic conflicts of other people as well as a different understanding of society and law.” Her approval ratings dropped more than 20 points, even as she broadcast her faith in her people: “Wir schaffen das,” she has said over and over. “We can do this.”"

This was in the article, and it basically outlines why Merkel doesn't deserve to be Person of the Year. The bolded emphasis is mine, because it perfectly describes the dangers of throwing open your doors to a million people who come from a vastly different culture than yours. Plus, she kind of fucked with a lot of other European countries, as now they're forced to deal with migrants who are on their way to Germany.

Merkel deserves to be person of the year because she's had a major impact on the world this year and for the foreseeable future. I mean the other contenders were Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Trump, it's not exactly an inspiring lineup.

Yeah, that's actually true. Adolf Hitler was Person of the Year, too; it's not an intrinsically positive title.

I guess now I'm just glad Abu Bakr didn't win, because that would have been a huge publicity boon for ISIS.

Same thing with Trump, I guess. Merkel was the right choice.

In other words, she was the least shitty option.
Well, yeah but she's also the most important. I'm not sure al-Baghdadi is all that essential to the existence of ISIS, and we don't know yet if Trump will be anything more than an embarrassing footnote in history.

They called it Man of the Year then. It also was not indicating that they approved of him.

Time specifically states that it's given to a person who has "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year"

It's not an award.

This happens every time they pick a person of the year a bunch of people don't like. They also always give it to new POTUSes which also really pisses people off every 4-8 years.

the people who came there to start a better life and abide by the rules.
The thing is, they're refugees, they're not supposed to be here to start a new life, they're supposed to be here temporarily while the situation in their country makes it unsafe for them to live there, and once they can live there again, they're supposed to be returned there. I feel like we all need to remember this. I also think that the government needs to get off its ass and actually do something to track these refugees and make sure that we can send them back to their countries once this is all over. That's historically been something we've failed at. We need to make sure that we actually track these refugees so that we can send them back when the time comes. The only ones who should be allowed to stay are those whose presence will be beneficial to our economy, and a small number who will never be able to return.

That became horseshit though when they pussed out and gave Rudy Guiliani Person of the Year for 2001 instead of Osama bin Laden.

Yeah, I was reading up on this, and apparently they shy away from giving the designation to people Americans generally really don't like. They got some flak for giving it to Khomeini in 1979. They don't necessarily avoid it, but I kind of understand I guess.

Time magazine front cover story or Euro migrant crisis? That's the dichotomy of this thread.

Why don't the migrants/refugees go to Dubai or Saudi Arabia? They have shit tons of money and they're Muslims.

Why should white Christians be responsible for fixing all the world's problems?

Because the Saudis are supremacist racists and don't want them. They only import slave labor so their worthless citizens don't have to work, because the whole country is on the equivalent of tard bucks. They get free money from the government for oil and think they deserve it and that actually working is beneath them.

You may as well ask why they don't take in the Palestinians. Simple, they don't give a flying fuck about the Palestinians any more than anyone else does. They would rather have them where they are and bitch about the Jews.

Muslims are precious people of color while all white people must suffer and carry the world's burden because of racism or something
