The funny thing is that those guys (except Indiana Jones) are wearing the short-brimmed Trilby instead of a regular fedora.

I hope that the fedora will become cool again one day, once the euphoric atheists die off like the dodo.

...Sadly, I've argued with several who managed to breed. :heart-empty:
In my experience people tend to call trilbys fedoras and actual fedoras Indiana Jones hats

There is only one proper way to wear a fedora.

And you'd damn well better have a properly cleft chin to pull it off.

Fun fact: Nick Bate wore a fedora/trilby.
Anyway, there's a claimed tendency for people with autism spectrum disorders to identify as atheist. One article that I remember even went as far as to claim that atheism is actually a form of autism.

Furthermore, the stereotypical socially awkward fedora-clad neckbeard is probably on the spectrum, which would explain the social awkwardness, although unlike many other people on the spectrum, they're insufferable and haughty like you point out.

I believe this this haughtiness is what motivates the stereotypical neckbeard to wear a fedora/trilby - they want to stand out and have class unlike the "dang dirty normies," although due to the same laziness and lack of motivation that keeps the stereotypical neckbeard in their parents' house, they don't really put much effort into the rest of their appearance.

Said haughtiness probably also contributes to the stereotypical atheism of such people - religion normally involves humility.

Combine those factors and it's easy to see why there's the association of the fedora with atheism.

(I'm not implying here that everyone on the spectrum is an insufferable neckbeard/fedora, nor that people on the spectrum can't have genuine faith.)

I don't think it originally was (or is) associated with atheism in particular; fedoras became associated with arrogant, holier-more euphoric than-thou losers (usually Redditors in particular) after people noticed that said losers seem to like wearing them because they think it makes them look cool:

Fedoras are used to describe quite a few groups, actually, although they all consist of douchey, smug men. When you think about it, the intersection between euphoric atheists, neckbeards, Nice Guys, and white knights is pretty fucking blurry, honestly.

It's a real shame, because fedoras look amazing when they're worn right.

I actually once considered getting a fedora because I thought that these hats look great. Just in time I found out that nowadays they're the official Atheist Brony El Neckbeardo Grande uniform, and thus I refrained from adorning myself with one. In that sense, Kiwi Farms saved me.

As long as you're well-groomed and have the appropriate outfits for them (i.e. dress shirts, suits, non-Doritos-stained anything, etc.), wear them all you want.

The autism atheism fedora connection is totally a thing.
To powerlevel a bit— when I was a wee autist, I ended up taking a class specifically aimed at spectrum kids. I have never seen as many fedoras as I did in that class, nor have I heard so many unprovoked rants against religion.

I recently found this, and well, it speaks for itself...

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

No one wants to hear about your religion, ESPECIALLY if your an atheist. At least the other religions offer like kool-aid and shit. Atheists only have their angst.

This argument is so fucking dumb and false. So is the argument that all animals are atheists (seriously, I've heard atheist vegans *shudder* claim that atheists need to stand up for animal rights because they're all nonbelievers). Babies and animals can't be atheists (or theists, for that matter) because they literally don't even have a concept of a deity that they can embrace or reject. So no, you're not actually being smart when you say shit like this.

Seriously, there aren't many atheist groups that offer fun stuff like luncheons, movie/game nights, and other social gatherings like churches do. Get your shit together, guys.

I can't fucking stand this argument - it's a total embarrassment, only the really dumb atheists still use it. You know what else a baby can't do? Read, write, spell or talk so you're literally counting something which can do nothing but dribble and shit itself amongst your ranks. Secondly, if you're going to call a baby an atheist you might as well call it a political independent too. It makes as much sense.

Atheism is as much of a religion as any of them, as much as they deny it. I guess you could say that babies are born agnostic if your an asshole, but that's just pointless technicality.
