It's not the internet's job to babysit people's kids. Parents should monitor what their kid does online.
If a kid stumbles upon KF, should KF be deleted?
As I said already, demonetization won't stop EC from uploading videos so your precious children will still see them and learn to starve themselves. Except they won't. The only people who will starve themselves are people who are predisposed to EDs and they will starve themselves with or without EC's influence. That's what people seem to not understand about eating disorders. Yes, people with EDs look up thinspo but they will still starve themselves with or without access to it.
Disagree again. I’ve managed to keep my kid away from youtube all 9 years of his life so far, but he will make it there eventually. It’s inevitable. The people who say this usually don’t have kids though so it’s whatever.
And my point was that it isn’t just bad for kids to see, it’s bad for everyone to see and it’s degeneracy. It’s unethical for anyone to monetize and take a percentage off of a video of Eugenia’s grotesque body in a bathing suit that someone intentionally put on the trending page.
BuT tHiNk oF tHe KiDs is only part of the discussion. The majority of my point is that there are people making money off of this shit and taking advantage of it. It’s not even debatable that it’s fucked up that her mom films her doing try on videos like she’s a freak show and then she takes some of the money. It’s not debatable that YouTube and advertisers are taking advantage of the situation. It’s not a black and white issue and it has many more facets than anorexics and tHe cHiLdReN.
Now, do I think a forum totally dedicated to pro Ana should be taken off the internet? No. Do I think somewhere like kiwi farms should be deleted? No. These are individual websites that serve the purpose that they advertise. They target a specific audience of people. I don’t feel sorry for people we discuss here that seek out our conversations and then get offended.
What I do find questionable is a website that exists to upload basically anything not having any kind of moderation. Websites like YouTube and tumblr are a different story entirely because they’re meant for everyone to look for anything and they don’t have a target demographic. People don’t have to seek out crazy shit in order to stumble upon it because it can either come up via the algorithm being shitty or someone they follow sharing something they might not necessarily look up on their own.
I personally think there should be a minimum expectation of moral decency in society in general, let alone public spaces. That definition varies from person to person and I understand that one person’s degeneracy is someone else’s normal. But I don’t think a situation like the EC one is debatable. I think we can pretty much all agree that it’s fucked up. That’s why Youtube includes a “report” button. If millions of people are reporting videos from one person and nobody is taking that into consideration because they’re making too much money off the train wreck, it’s objectively wrong.
But anyway like someone above said, this is Reddit level sperging so I’ve made my point and that’s that. Also, like someone else said, YouTube has its own standards when it comes to their content. According to their vague ass explanation, EC isn’t supposed to be monetized at all. If they choose to be retarded and selectively enforce rules, that’s their reputation.
