I think the situation is probably a bit more complicated and sinister than that.

There are some people in this thread that think Eugenia is an outright villain, which I can't really agree with. Does she promote eating disorders to girls, post obvious body checking and act like kind of a bitch to people trying to help her? All yes.
But there is something very weird going on in the Cooney household. My personal tinfoil is that Deb is a narcissistic abuser control freak. She wants to keep her children entirely dependent on her, so she has created helpless, useless offspring. She isolates them and enables their physical disabilities. People that think Eugenia should just get out of there and away from Deb, well yeah, she should, but you don't really understand the complexities of abusive dynamics. (The same with how people ask why battered wives don't just leave.) Add onto that, Eugenia's brain is eating itself so she's not functioning at full capacity to begin with. Eugenia and Chip probably believe that they are incapable of being independent, and need Deb to handle any 'adult' things. An adult child would eventually come to get tired of being controlled and escape their parent, but the eating disorders help to prevent that from happening. Think about all the little insights we've gotten to how Deb is with EC, like having to know where she is at all times in the house and keeping a close eye on her for her few outings. There's some very twisted mind control going on here, in my opinion. Even if you don't agree with that, I think at least we can all agree that Deb is an enabler to her dysfunctional creations.
