There are plenty of anorexics rattling around who are every bit as bad as Eugenia (or even less functional). Eugenia just happens to be very visible.

I don't necessarily think that the US system of treating eating disorders is the best thing out there, but no country has really figured it out yet. Studies show that the best recovery outcomes are tied to the patient's own motivation, but it's just a notoriously difficult and intractable mental illness. Throwing resources at someone as acutely unmotivated as Eugenia is just a waste of time and money.

It's interesting that she's (apparently) not actually banned on TikTok but isn't receiving promotion or monetization, and that's enough to make her hide and sulk. I don't think she should be deplatformed, but TikTok may have stumbled on the middle ground: don't take the platform away, but don't make it rewarding.

Whatever is going in that house must be so much darker than even the wildest fanfiction. That first photo in particular-- Eugenia trying to disappear, her brother looking like an actual horror film creation, and Deb looking strung-out-- is going to be used in countless press releases when the inevitable happens.

@often puzzled I can’t quote you but I agree with your point regarding Eugenia and TikTok. It’s absolutely not the responsibility of a social media platform to make sure no one sees a skelly, and I personally don’t think that’s a precedent we should be okay with them setting in terms of free speech. But TikTok IS responsible for choosing to not just monetize Eugenia’s content, but to work with her as an influencer, promote her shit, invite her to their offices and to participate in their events and whatnot. She clearly has little interest in putting effort in to the platform when she’s not making money and being promoted on it, so good let’s keep it that way. They don’t need to give her the boot or censor her, but they for sure don’t need to be paying her and encouraging her further. I think I feel the same about Deathfat influencers. If they want to eat themselves to death on live stream, that’s their god given right, but platforms don’t need to be paying them to do it.
 
It must be the most surreal experience encountering that family in public while knowing nothing about them.

Deb and Mr. Deb have accomplished something few will by cultivating both extreme ends of the eating disorder spectrum in one household. The human body is truly fascinating in its ability to survive the horrors created by the human mind.

What a shocking difference in size and body weight between those two. I literally said holy fucking shit out loud upon seeing these images.
 
I thought that photo was fake when I first saw it. That motherfucker has got to be 500-550lbs.
So crazy to see two siblings with eating disorders that go in such opposite directions. Food is a control tactic in that house.

I'm not even kidding when I say that if an eating disorder specialist could somehow manage to study the entire family, it would vastly improve our understanding of how EDs form and progress, and how interrelated they actually are. There's invaluable information there, and it's going to waste because they're all in mute denial (at least publicly) that there is a problem in the first place.
 
If my children looked like these two as adults, I think I’d just rope. It’s too extreme on either end. What the hell happened?

I would pay to fund a study of the dynamics of this family as well as the Jennings. I hate that both families have learned to be tight-lipped.

Edit: Dad seems to never be present, what does he look like? Is it an all-fat family where Eugenia’s disorder stems from Fear??

If her brother has always been this fucking big, then no wonder she became ana... she is probably looking at her brother and mom going, "These are my genes... if I eat anything more than a grape I am doomed to be on my 600lb life!"
