Imo there are two primary factors that drive Eugenia into this mindset. She isn't a malingering type, she isn't a munchie.

A majority of her family suffers from varying degrees of obesity. It isn't uncommon for a parent or sibling who is obese to get controlling of the average sized members of their family and cause body issues between them all. I'm not saying her mom and brother directly caused it, but I am saying it is possible they had a hand in it or Eugenia became obsessive to avoid it on her own. I wouldn't be surprised if her mother berated her and put stuff in her head like "If you eat that you'll become like me" and despite Eugenia loving her mother, she really doesn't want to be obese and I don't blame her. But if this is something that has been happening for years and years it's devolved into something worse.

This latest downward spiral was likely triggered by the death of her grandmother. She was holding pretty steady at her weight even if it was extremely low for a while. But she lost what looks like another 10 lbs after her grandmother passed. I think that's just confirmation that a lot of her troubles are familial, really.

The second factor is the whole aesthetic in her head that she's got going on. She's stuck in the mid to late 2000s, being skinny was considered cool. Anorexia was cool too. When you already have body issues and don't see yourself as you are, wanting to fit an aesthetic means someone may go over the top to achieve the look and not realize just how bad it is because they literally cannot see themselves without seeing whatever their mind has conjured up. The whole weeb/scene kid/emo kid/mall goth overlap subculture definitely promoted anorexia and Eugenia might justify her actions by saying to herself that she is what the girls she looked up to growing up wanted to be. But I don't see people discuss how her whole aesthetic also ties to the body image often, so I wanted to bring it up, since her whole brand and culture is one of her selling points. One of the things that hasn't changed about her.

I agree. I’ve read that when an addict starts using substances to cope with life, they get stuck mentally at the age they learned poor coping mechanisms. Seems true for anorexia too.

Eugenia never learned healthy ways to manage stress and started restricted eating during the days you talk about, when she was a pre-teen and that MySpace/Jack Skellington look was trendy. She still doesn’t behave or look like a woman, and has never refined her style or updated it, as many would who liked the aesthetic and wanted to keep it, but who is aging. She still appears as a child, completely stuck. I think any style she’d adopted back when she was ten she’d still be into. Whether Lisa Frank rainbows and pandas and butterfly clips or the more edgy looks. The point for her is to be thin and also not grow up.

Had Eugenia been born a decade later she might be trooning out now, as a lot of the point of (to us) extreme body looks is to avoid being a woman.
 
Every few years youtubers all get together and sacrifice Eugenia to the algorithm to make easy content and money and pretend they care about the skeleton in her body using flesh to pretend to be human.
looks like this is the case again.
 
When discussing origins/development of severe and enduring eating disorders (such as EC's) it may not be worth discounting suicidality that comes with these behaviors. In what ways would someone like Ewgie not accept death as a welcome goal? Doesn't seem like an end to easily deny.

I would say I'm surprised that tiktok once again showed me her content, but then again I do watch for a few minutes every time it comes up to see if she's saying anything stupid.

What she said here is... rather telling.
1) - I didn't catch this but her mother was texting her for the last few minutes. while being in the same house. I understand trying not to interrupt a stream but this just feels so weird to me. Eugenia seemed very on edge or even kind of closing in when this happened and she mentioned her mother just sent her "What" as a message, and then a bunch of single letters.

2) - She had been doing her makeup for god knows how long and people kept commenting about her hair which is what you hear at the start of the video, that her hair is a mess.

3) - She calls out people that say that those who gift her are enablers by saying... "they're just showing love, its not enabling, they just want to support someone."

It's crazy how losing all her facial fat is starting to really make her look like a totally different person. She had a chubby round face still for the longest time and now she's getting that skull-look like the other anachans.

what is the metric that makes it too far gone for her (genuinely) ?

Had a close family member get 3/4 of the way to Eugenia BMI after an unexpected medical complication consigned this already quiet kid to a wheelchair & she cringed that now she had to ask for everything to be done for her or with assistance, especially showering,toileting s0 after getting a gastro bug where she couldn't keep food down for a week she said she remained nauseous indefinitely
part of the treatment was psych meds (and refeeding via tube) then 6 months of full manual feeding by family members when she got home after ~ 5 months in hospital
I have to wonder how getting FAR away from her family dynamic, onto medication and into talking to specialists would help.
I know thats next to impossible BUT also nobody is gonna get her to make end of life preparations cause that would require the same acknowledgement that would work to get her intense help.
the online groups to help family members of kids and young adults with these disorders are very annoying.
their theory is that there is a magic weight threshold that heals these (mostly) girls which is far above average BMI... they can't tell you what it is but when the kid in my fam was at the best weight she had ever been and higher BMI than her parents or siblings they said in the FB groups "she has lots more to regain before she can fully heal her brain"
my extended fam just fucked off all that logic & made her aware repeatedly of the full consequences of what she was doing whilst affirming that nobody minds assisting with her mobility in the wheelchair.. in the end, she saw a little journal book sitting on a table and realised it was from her youngest sibling needing therapy to cope and that made her say fuck it.
she is terrified of seeing any Cooney content and for good reason
