I had just assumed she converted because her husband was Catholic. But it makes a bit more sense that she went Catholic because she would have private confession/reconciliation to alleviate her own guilt, "I confessed/am forgiven so I don't need to tell my fiance/husband anything". This makes it worse if her marriage was recognized by the Church because now she'd have to seek annulmemt and have the Church investigate if she ever wants to remarry (I'm assuming her husband is divoring her - is he?). He only mentions her taking "son", singular, away, so I'm thinking this recording is from much earlier in their marriage, probably from before she was seriously contemplating divorce, since they went on to have another son together.

Why I think she recorded this at this point in her marriage (the same reason that I have made a similar recording in the past) is that your husband habitually comes home blackout drunk and says the most horrible things to you when you confront them for driving home drunk and lying about if or what they've had to drink. They of course don't remember what they said the next morning and are super apologetic when you tell them but also in some denial that they would ever speak to you that way. So eventually you get the idea, hey, I've got nothing else to do while they're drunkenly ranting and raving at me, I'll record it and in the morning I'll show them what they said. When they hear themselves, they'll agree that they have a drinking problem, and because when they are sober they love me and would never want to hurt me, they will change their ways.

Of course, it doesn't work. It's a form of denial before you finally realize that what you are dealing with is addict behavior and there is nothing logical about it and it has nothing to do with how much they do or don't love you or your children. The addict ultimately cares only about one thing: their addiction.

Hearing the recording, that's exactly the way the ego works on people like Schaefer, he's just using the same boring insults over and over, egging a response from her. I don't get a sense she's editing her side out, she's just ignoring him, which is why he's stunlocked and just keeps calling her a fucking bitch. You see it with people like Hasan too, they thought they had one good argument, it's essentially rejected by the other person, so they repeat and go meaner trying to elicit some response.

Imo he's not egging a response from her. He's plastered and these are the incoherent ramblings of an addict. If you do not accept your spouse's binge drinking habit, you are enemy #1 in the addict's mind, especially when they are under the influence, and they will verbally shadowbox with themselves until they pass out. You can try to deescalate and go into another room, and but if they happen to be hyperfocused on you that night, they will follow you just to keep circling the same tired insults of bitch, whore, etc.

Because she is silent in the recording, my guess is that this has happened frequently enough that by now she has learned the lesson that you cannot reason with a drunk.
