I had a similar experience where I thought "what is this insanity? Is he even allowed to say the F-word that many times?" when in 2nd grade a neighbors older brother put earphones on me while he was listening to 2 Live Crew's "The Fuck Shop".
 
From what I remember, he had schizophrenia and some other lesser mental issues.
Some of those mental issues translated into good art and he made some real bangers.
However, I always knew that his death won't be pleasant.
He still managed to get past 50, get rich, and make stuff that will be remembered long after he's dead, that's pretty good for a basket case from the hood.

Back around the time of his second big album he was on tour and stopped to do a show in Charleston S.C. He stayed at a hotel the same time as my little cousins JV club soccer team who was in town for a tournament that weekend.

On Saturday the girls were getting their hotel breakfast when who do they see getting some OJ? Yep DMX. Their team was from a diverse part of SC so almost 40/60 black white teen girls. They still who knew who X was and a few walked up to him to ask "Are you really X" and just fan out bc he was fucking huge at the time.

Turns out he was 100% approachable and friendly. Starts talking to my cousin and her friends. Finds out they will be playing in a tournament later that day. Asks them where and wishes them luck. They think it was cool to meet him and move on.

Flash forward to a little after noon.The game is in full swing when who shows up with a small entourage WITH Gatorades and zebra cakes? Yep DMX. He preceeded to cheer them on for the rest of the match and told them stuff like to stay in school and took photos.

I know this sounds like some fan wank greentext BS put I've seen them photo prints of my little cousin and friends posing around him on the field all smiles.

Dude was a genuine fucking guy. RIP X

That seems about right. A friend of mine from college has been a charter jet pilot since 2000 and since he was based out of Atlanta he met a lot of rappers and said by and large they were pretty good guys. I actually met Ludacris (who was very cool and modest) when I was on leave because he got me to do a flight with him in the bitch-seat.

He said in our group chat Saturday that he was bummed because, and I quote "X was Terry Crews' character on Everybody hates Chris, but with a lot of swearing" and a "Genuine dude"
 
Never heard of him--apparently he must have produced something worthwhile judging from y'all's reaction: but dying of a drug overdose at 50?

Damn that's almost as bad as Tom Petty becoming addicted to heroin at 60ish as I recall.
 
Hard to feel sorry for a death of an animal abuser even though ghetto people are messed up to begin with.

Poor proud Kang got seduced by the white liberals into taking the jab, and died because of it. Those same liberals now turn around and say without a shred of evidence that he OD'd, because black duh. WOW the left are so fucking racist, hopefully blacks are waking up to the dangers of the vaccine and the racism on the left all in one swoop from Saint DMX.

He was actually addicted to opioids in general, but he was taking them for actual pain. He had a serious hip fracture, and he was disregarding it to finish one last tour before retiring, but ended up OD'ing. He wasn't just a hedonistic drug abuser, he was taking it to deal with the pain of actually working.

He should have canceled the tour. But he did it for the fans.
 
I'm having flashbacks to Michael Jackson's death here. I knew who DMX was but I wasn't into his music and only heard about him when people were talking about how much he's gone of the rails and is crazy and a failure, but now that he's dead everyone is fawning over him? I get he had to have fans somewhere, but now it sounds like everyone is ready to praise only because they know they don't have to deal with him anymore.

I could be wrong of course, maybe he was always this revered within the hip hop scene and I just missed it. But still.

Edit: Someone brought it up earlier, but meh the video is new.

Apparently DMX got the shot one week before his heart attack. This would be the THIRD prominent black man possibly dying of the shot after Hank Aaron and Marvin Hagler. All speculation.

You're a little bit more than retarded, aren't you. It would more likely be the other way around. Why the fuck would they:
A. Have any reason to hide the fact he died from the vaccine, if anything that would make headlines and give it even MORE attention. Especially with the current buzz about the new vaccine and blood clots.
B. Give him the reputation of being dead a drug addict who relapsed at the age of 50, instead of being the victim of a life saving vaccine?

Wow racist much! He didn't OD, you are assuming that because he's black.

His family released a statement confirming he had the vaccine in the same week he died and was NOT on drugs. Check your privilege, nazi.
