Labor theory of value is bullshit and never worked and worked even less when Marx got a hold of it.
Honestly, Tarn could've probably gotten away by similfying everything, by using standard deviation weighted by skill level, craft quality, social skills with a random roll for each item for the profit of each singular (or batch of) manufacturing job. Hardest for these are services. Wonder how that service would be rated... Perhaps amount of workers and relative skill amount and then need?

Then again, it wouldn't be DF then.

Have any of you niggas played the Long Night mod? It looks very nice so far, but I can't figure out what exactly the letters at the ending of item names mean (paricuraly weapons and armor).
I've figured out that they are abbreviations of the item characteristics, but I can't find what do they mean exactly. For example I can have something like a coil-gun being called "coil-gun SKADSA" and I can't figure out what this means exactly.
I've tried googling it, but no luck so far.

Yup!

In other news, I am trying to get back into Dwarf Fortress. Unfortunately, the mouse controls are still godawful, and the keyboard cursor is a setting you have to fricking turn on. The GUI is not particularly fun. The old UI was better.

They could have AT LEAST made it so that your keys and the mouse control the same cursor; but no, eff the players.

So is adventure mode back yet?
Yep. Tarn (or more likely kitfox) added gaudy dungeons populated with undead well-armored adventurers using magic items that use the weird night creature powers.

Also, they added more dyes to the game. Meanwhile, I don't think they've fixed any actually-significant bugs.

When the Steam version first came out, I tried to bind it so that scrolling the screen and moving the designation cursor were both on the arrow keys like before. The result was that both actions take place simultaneously, making it impossible to play exclusively with the keyboard as with the old versions.

I haven't played it since, but based on what I've seen, the Steam version treats the ASCII graphics like some kind of redheaded stepchild, as it appears to be very poorly supported, despite the fact that that's how DF players have enjoyed the game for decades.

They say that ASCII will be "equivalent in isupport" but it is the same shit as Redhat running wayland trying to kill off X11 by ignoring all the issues saying WONTFIX NOT A BUG

Amusingly, the tutorial is broken. When it has you zoom in with ] or the mouse wheel, it doesn't actually recognize that, so you have to skip the Camera Controls section.

One advantage of Dwarf Fortress's pre-premium version was that its bugs weren't THAT fricking obvious.

a dwarf fortress alert that will strike true fear into the heart of every sheep fucking welshman

Dwarf Fortress taught me the important life lesson that any given animal can be a crazed, bloodthirsty fiend.
Dwarf Fortress taught me the important life lesson that you should just murder nobles who make unreasonable demands, you should just hurl dwarves into volcanoes for no reason at all, and you should just make all furniture out of pure gold just because fuck you. And if the king of your entire realm shows up and declares you the Mountainhomes, you can either make him awesome quarters or just murder him.

Dwarf Fortress taught a lesson be careful when you raid necro tower and if they bring a Slab or book home just forbidde it. (i still wanne try to make a fort purely defend by Zds)

and webslinger ancient beasts are your best friends

Is anyone still playing "Dwarf Fortress Classic" from the Bay12 site instead of the Steam version? I'm thinking of playing again but the Steam version seems unappealing.

Still on 0.47.05 although I haven't played much lately.

I don't understand how anybody thought that DF creators were "based" or even apolitical. Since the very beginning they were ultra libtards and even made a game focused solely on murdering conservatives and committing terrorism in order to save the world from becoming a dystopia (liberal crime squad). 10 years ago on their forums people were banned for saying word "gay" in negative context, the game was never "based".
They had enough awareness to at least be funny though. In the LCS game you can presuade/seduce guard dogs into ignoring you, or into a convert canine hero at L animal rights or above, or convert conservatives with a gituar and high enough music, or free genetic mutants for them to instantly come back and try to murderbone you.

LCS is kinna fun in the corny shiposting vein, now if only we could become the right wing death squads we all dreamt of... (I guess code it yourself moment since it's source avalible).

I couldn't get into DF normieized edition because they changed the control scheme, which for the uninitiated is fine but for me the old controls were burned into my muscle memory, is the old control scheme or a mod to bring it back out or is it still nu controls

And is fps better? Every fort that didn't die from fun was killed because I couldn't handle the single digit fos

You can change yo controls in the settings homie. As for the latter, I do find the FPS to be a bit better imo, but it may just be my system.
