I've said this already, but spearman's magic shield is busted as shit. Getting a brief 10 seconds of invulnerability at the cost of a measly amount of stamina has allowed me to shitroll drakes with ease. Though I do love not getting knocked on my ass every time I go to pick up one of my pawns.
I also like seeching storm since I can cast it mid-combo, while rebounding bolt cancels almost any recovery animation. So what I do is heavy attack animation cancel into a normal combo which usually pops off like 16 storm orbs. Since each cast while you're attacking spawns two orbs.

There's also how no amount of stamina recovery will ever top just using ravener's hond to fill your bar, and parrying with that one thing does insane damage.
I really wanna try it's Ultimate but that requires going out of warfarer, and I'm not wearing a skirt to LARP as vergil.

I'm sure enjoying this game a lot more than you bunch of a chumps. Christ Almighty. The wailing and gnashing of teeth here is a bit much.
I'm glad someone is having fun with the game, I assume you were expecting people to actual talk about the game beyond it's...seemingly egregious problems?

what i notice with the game is alot of NPCS are complaining about being old. how their back hurts, how their knee hurts, how they getting less hours of sleep etc. is this Itsuno projecting the fact his getting old? i know in the first game, there was the theme of people embracing the dragons coming, hoping it would bring the end of everything since they were sick of living but were too cowardly to end their own lives. in the second game it seems more to focus on getting old then nihilism.

Still doing pretty decent numbers surprisingly, I wonder what numbers it'll have in a week or two. Unfortunately I can see Capcom not giving a flying fuck about the problems the game has and its criticisms and will instead triple down the next major release (especially with MTX), pumping out a game quickly to cash in on either holidays or end of fiscal quarters without a care for any problems. Also know as Capcom on a Tuesday. "Problems running our game dirty Gaijin? Get better computer parts. Our legion of fanboys and paid shills will agree, yes?" Worth noting that negative reviews are getting a lot more attention than positive reviews.

Started NG+ with Mystic Spearhand and I think I'm just too retarded for video games these days or something. I absolutely cannot get the Bolt > Attack > Bolt rhythm down and I keep getting ownzoned by basic Gobs. Maybe it's because I played a braindead class (Thief) for 80 hours.

Herein lies the issue: the problems I've had with the game have been gripes, at worst. Everywhere I see people treating this game as a gigantic failure, an absolutely abhorrent betrayal of the fans of the original, and I don't fucking get it. Mind you, I 100%'d the original, cheevos and all, in like, February, so it's very, very fresh in my mind. My worst issues with the game lie in its marketing and handling by Capcom (which, to be fair, is fucking awful and Capcom needs to commit Facebook Buckshot Mouthwash).

As I said, I do have my gripes with the game itself:
  • Soundtrack is abysmally boring. This is the only thing I think is a direct, 100% downgrade from the original, which had a stellar OST.
  • New Game button fiasco is baffling, but quickly fixed and it seems like an oversight at worst.
  • Performance in Vernworth specifically. I have a pretty new PC and have rarely had problems anywhere else, including the desert capital that I can't spell.
  • Majority of my deaths have been from falling rather than actually being outplayed by enemies. Gut and Run is especially egregious with this shit.
  • Lack of endgame hyper-challenging content like Bitterblack, or really anything to grind toward. There's a few longer dungeons here and there but I would have really loved a super long, brutal one or two that really test your resolve. Though I did like how the postgame punishes you *heavily* for dying, this unfortunately also clashes with my last point.
I've seen people in this thread complain about the lack of enemy variety, areas being unused, and "in-depth dungeon crawling", but those are specifically baffling to me, considering there's far more variety in enemies than the original, there's much more to do at each location, and the original had *fucking one dungeon* until they added Bitterblack. I refuse to accept any arguments that insist Bluemoon Tower is a dungeon. I'll give you Soulflayer Canyon and Shadow Fort as half-points, though, since those have level design beyond "walk forward".

As far as the weighty movement, I can absolutely understand people hating it. It's probably the biggest difference between this game and the original. I personally don't mind things being different as long as they aren't worse, and while at first I had a lot of trouble with it, I think the weight your character has works within this game and the way it's designed. I don't fault anyone for hating this one though, because the original had great movement.

Maybe I'm just more accepting of jank than you guys, I dunno. I'm with @Rick The Stick that I won't be picking this up until they add DLC or an expansion or whatever once I'm done, but I do that with every game I play. I've already got like, half the hours in this I have in the original and that's two weeks after launch. I'm also with him that this game feels more like a "what if DDDA released in 2024" rather than a sequel.

Charge bolt while light attacking, spam storm while all of this is happening, There are two animations: the attack animation, and a recovery animation. You can bolt mosstly during recovery animations but not during attack animations. In practice this is almost always a few moments after you're done swinging but before you can do another weaponskill/do a heavy attack.

This also means you neeed the stamina leech skill since your stam regen is zero. Also carpal tunnel owie.

Oh right forgot to add, while mystick knight bolts don't do actual damage it still does stagger damage so spam normal bolts while spamming seeching storm to take down any flying monsters.

Yes even dragons/griffins. It works. Eventually.

Really? I wouldn't say I've seen people treat it like a "gigantic failure," even if I think it sucks. Calling it a failure is simply false unless we find out the budget was so high and the sales didn't break even, so anyone who says that is a numbnut. Hell, it sure as shit is a critical success (er, high rating with critics I mean), albeit not with normal reviewers. From what I can see, it just feels like it's worse than DDDA. The same issues DDDA had is still there but worse, now there's even more added on top of it aside from the MTX and performance issues.

I agree, also "facebook buckshot mouthwash" is fucking hilarious and I'm yoinking it. Worth mentioning that they hid the MTX until the game was beyond pre-order cancelling (I think?).

Damn right, it felt...good for lack of a better explanation. DD2 just looks generic.

Well said, very good post man. I'm very accepting of jank but only in certain scenarios. This is a-minimum-$70 games that been in development for God knows how long. I don't expect perfection, just competence. Unfortunately the standard of quality has been lowered over the years as devs and publishers got too big, making releasing garbage safe since normies and fanboys will consoom anything and worse, defend it with no good arguments, while attacking anyone who disagrees. But I digress. Also I say it's less "DDDA in 2024" and more just plain 'ol "DD1 in 2024." Really telling that you spent more time in the first game than the second one. Thank you for your input, I will always appreciate someone who takes the time to make a measured response than both a yesman and a noman.

I notice something.

since i was gone for a month. all the stuff i stored in my treasure chest has rotted away

thanks Itsuno. very cool.

Five years. That includes bending RE engine over the knee to work for an open world game. People like to meme that it been in development for 12 years, but those are autistic redditors who can't even look this up before arguing it. DD1 was in development for 3 years admittedly, with DDDA being released only year after. With it coming to PC fully patched and fixed in 4 years after release and this is the version that people use as a comparison when talking about DD2. I personally don't think it is entirely fair, even if I can understand the "why reinvent the bicycle?" question when talking about the lack of improvements from the previous title.

I personally believe the foundation is good and I had a lot of fun with it. But my lasting impression will depend on the updates that will follow. They did release a recent update which fixed some issues, we just gotta get patient and see how it will change later. Why things were released half baked? Because that's the industry standard right now and you'd need to topple the entire video game industry to change it. Will shitting on DD2 do anything about it? I genuinely don't think so. Look at Total War Warhammer 3 for instance. It'll kill CA, but it won't kill Sega or make them rethink their strategy.

>go Rift
>every female is the default face/head, sometimes with different hairstyles
>fashion sense is hobo crackhead autumn style
>check skills selected...I cry
>check augments...they forgot to even put...

Sometimes I pity pick pawns who have low rating or who didn't even had their default quest done. But once they stop in the middle of the combat to try to ladder/throw me into the air, I audibly groan at that shit. I won't even mention the random Sorc that tries to Maelstrom a fucking goblin in a cave, and I can't see shit.

Look man, I don't want to suck my own dick, but I put effort into my pawn. Bitch is top 1% of looks, has outstanding drip, skills updated and non-cancerous and I farmed enough goblins to get good augments. I also autistically started a new game four times so far.
And, finally, fuck harpies.
I hate harpies and their variants so fucking much, that my pawn and I are now archers and I take great pleasure in filling their asses full of my explosion. On this topic, while I started as a sorcfag, I have now become bowfag, because I find the playstyle more engaging and enjoyable and the fact that the drip doesn't make me look like a tranny or a fat priest.

Thanks for listening to my autistic rambling.

Ive enjoyed the game but I'm apparently almost done with the main quest line and this shit is fucking bogus lol.
I got to the point of fighting the colossus and couldn't tell if it could die. Looked this shit up and it's apparently the point of no return.
the story could've been okay but it feels so bad lol

Having a strict time limit in the post game seems incredibly counter productive if the planned DLC is post-game content like BBI was.

been playing the post game and i have to say, having a bunch of big monster every ten meters instead of goblin packs is an improvement. must have killed atleast 5 dullahans today and i only found 2 in the main game. there is a way to cheat the time limit by not resting and destroying the red gates as soon as possible. here is a guide.

its pretty crazy how i replaced and dragon forged most of my stuff with dragon gear. killing things at sonic speed. even had a them dwarf smith for that sweet knockback bonus/protection. only bad part is there is no way to make any decent gold and im almost broke.

also, skeletons drop ferrystones so kill every skelly you see.

point of no return is when the game literally goes "wink wink use a tavern to rest up (and save progress)

After playing a bunch of the game and going through the same areas multiple times, I get the complaints of monster density now.
Personally, I enjoyed the current density for my first time in an area. The combat is fun, so fighting more enemies is a good thing. It also makes the world feel dangerous.
What I didn't enjoy is going through the same areas multiple times, fighting the same monsters, in the same locations, with the same density. I don't mind having to walk instead of using fast travel, but when every enemy respawns in the exact same location they were the first time, it starts to get retarded, specially the big ones (This little cave by the side of the road? There will always be a chimera there).

I feel like a simple fix would be to make around 50%+ of current enemies non-respawning, small and big alike, focusing on the main roads, so that those actually start to feel safer as you go through the game. Your first time would still be dense with enemies, but if you ever had to go through the same area again, they wouldn't be as dense and you wouldn't get bog-down with foder.
