What I don't get is why hasn't any one else tried to do the two big things Dragons Dogma pulled off:

1. Climbing monsters to stab them in the face/cuts parts off. I know Monster Hunter has cutting parts off but not the climbing.
2. Giving Mages actual "Holy the world is ending spells". I know it grinded the original 360 to a stand still but causing the heavens to fall from the sky/unleash the pure raw forces of nature against some goblins was fun to see.
MonHun does have a mounting mechanic and has for quite a while. It's not as free range as climbing monsters in DD, but it's there. Not really used for straight damage but used to knock down/KO monsters so you can fuck their shit up after the knockdown. Hell certain weapons are basically geared towards getting a mount like Insect Glaive and even Sword & Shield with augments on armor to make it easier to get the mount and reduce the stamina drain.

I think Breath of the Wild also allowed you to climb certain larger monsters to get to weak spots as well, which fit in with that game's climb anything, anywhere mechanic.

Hopefully the climbing controlls are more refined this time around. Felt like it was so easy to get in a loop of climbing in circles because the controls would weirdly invert at the strangest spots. Also fighting the camera at times, which is just a feature of any sort of ARPG with large and/or fast enemies at this point I guess.

I kind of respect them for going "oh you hated ferrystones huh? Well now the map is three times the size and there's still no fast travel!"

Total Chud energy, respect.

I won’t mind as much it if the world is actually alive.
DD1’s map had nothing going on except the same few enemies, and some material gathering. It got old QUICK.

Plus, escort quests were an un-fun nightmare without fast travel.

That being said, I hate that mentality. Give players the option, and make your world so interesting they most likely won’t want to use it.

The combat in DD1 was so satisfying. I am excited/hopeful that they repeat and expand upon this system in DD2. The game itself holds a special place in my heart for some reason. Maybe because exploring in addition to the combat was so satisfying (and actually beating the game took some effort)? I can’t believe I beat it nearly 12 years ago. Time moves too quickly. I have a feeling that if I played through it again after all of this time I would find it equally as satisfying as the first. I haven’t been actually hyped for a game in many years, but this is one I doubt will disappoint. Thank you glorious Nippon.

There are also a few monsters (the one I remember most is the Ur-Dragon) where climbing on them is completely broken and you just disappear into their mesh at times, making it even harder to discern where you were.

But these are precisely the kind of improvements I'd expect from a sequel. We'll see.

Honestly the only bad thing about that in DD1 was the lack of variety in the environment. Was fun when you saw these areas the first time, but then you ended up just sprinting through them when you had to go to the other side of the map for the 5th time. The eternal ferrystone and multiple portcrystals were a godsend for new game cycles.

UR is definitely the best example. Thankfully, for me, I rarely fought it once Dark Arisen came out because there were better options for power leveling and getting wakestones. Plus I never cared for the weapons/armor you got from the online version either.

70 mothafuckin dollars? Come on now. DD1, while soulful, was too mid for me to fork over that much money on release for the sequel especially with the way games release nowadays. I'm cautiously optimistic overall though.

These LionO niggas looking to be bants. Fr Arisen, no cap
