Crossposting from the Tokyo Game Show thread, with thanks to @BananaSplit² for doing the work in the first place:

During Tokyo Game Show 2023, Capcom unveiled new gameplay information for their upcoming action RPG Dragon’s Dogma II. Firstly, some vocations were highlighted. These are essentially combat classes that can be altered in Guilds.
  • Fighter Vocation – Uses a one-handed sword and shield and excels in melee combat.
  • Archer Vocation – Uses bow and arrow to attack from a distance. Can also use explosive and blinding arrows and aim like a third-person shooter.
  • Mage Vocation – Uses long-range magickal attacks. Can also perform healing and support allies; bolster party with enchantments. Advanced spells take longer incantation times.
  • Thief Vocation – Uses daggers while relying on agility and quick attacks. A notable ability is Swift Step, which can make players quickly move away from enemies after an attack.
The following Advanced Vocations were highlighted:
  • Mystic Spearhand Vocation – Combines magickal attacks and weapon-based physical attacks. Good all-rounder. Uses Duospear at close range and magick at long range. Can also use magick to impede enemy movement and throw multiple items simultaneously.
  • Magick Archer Vocation – Specializes in long-range attacks with magickal arrows. Can also heal and support allies and learn a skill that attacks a wide area by sacrificing some of their own HP.
The environment can also be useful for combat, so players will need to be aware of their surroundings. While exploring, you’ll encounter pawns with quest knowledge who can guide you to the right locations for quests. Pawns will support in various ways, too, such as during combat. However, it’ll be up to players on whether they should follow them.

Players can go on Oxcarts to travel to major locations and close one’s eyes to make the process go by faster. However, you can be attacked en route, so plan accordingly.

Time is always passing, affecting the environment. Nighttime is dangerous with darkness and strong monsters. Camping kits can be used to spend the night and heal.

Regarding the setting, the following two nations were showcased:
  • Vermund – Human Kingdom – Arisen who have slain the Dragon rule as kings here for generations. The landscapes here are full of greenery and meadows.
  • Battahl – Land of Beastren – A rugged canyon nation with a city built on ancient ruins.
Pardon me, whilst I seethe that Strider is getting split into two different Vocations.
whyyyyyyyyyyyy

There's an entire nation of Beastmen and you can have Beastmen pawns.

What percentage of parties are going to consist entirely of nudist catgirls? My bet is at least 80%

That's interesting. Perma-thirsty furries are going to glom all over that, of course, but I'm willing to bet at least a usable portion of them will try and look cool rather than horny.
So long as I can still have my massive Warrior lady beating heads into chest cavities while I do the Magick Archer thing and light myself on fire, I'll be able to cope. Please let Warrior equip six skills this time, guys. It's not rocket surgery.

So taken with a little gain of salt, but a couple of people over at GamingLeaksAndRumors went back and compared against a leak that was posted on 4 chan around 2021 called The Mask Leak to what was shown at TGS 2023

Stuff from the leak which was confirmed:
  • There are 4 main subclasses (confirmed at TGS 2023)
  • Expect Random ambushes (confirmed at PSU preview & Trailer)
  • There will be limited camping and housing (Confirmed at TGS 2023)
  • The plot is related to a cursed mummer (Hinted at Trailers)
  • The Game's Official Announcement was happening at the game's 10th aniversary (Confirmed)
Information & Story spoilers that weren't confirmed:
  • There's a total of 1 "starting", 4 "basic" and 12 "subclasses" for a total of 16/17 vocations
  • Some of the classes like Mystic Knight are Gladiator, Spy & Priest (All provisional names)
  • The starting class is called Explorer (tutorial related).
  • The main story is about a cursed mask/mummer called Phersu (hinted at the trailer), the mask will be unremoveable at certain portions but removeable at others portions of the game. Removing the mask will cause the entire world to change.
  • The game is a soft reboot of the original, taking place in another universe and serving as a prequel to the original Dragon's Dogma
  • Game is not fully open world but has vast regions with 12 very large dungeons and dozens of exploreable caves.
  • Character creation for both Arisen & Pawn is incredible complex. You can even change how much fat your character has in certain body parts and how they relate to your bone structure.
  • There's an ultra hard mode in the game.
  • There are four regions in the game.
  • State of the world changes with your quest decisions.
  • Game release was planned for Fall/Winter 2023 in 2021.
  • The game will have a tutorial section which you go explore a dungeon next to your hometown and when you come back the Dragon attacks.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 release fiasco made Capcom change many things about development, incluiding giving a lot of extra time for Itsuno & Team.
  • There are updates and expansions planned to add late-game content.
  • There's a lot of end-game content incluiding modular dungeons with limited player co-op. The game had full co-op planned but was cut due to technical reasons.
  • The game has limited Ray Tracing (as of 2021) but there's heavy work on proper optimization.
  • There are 90 people from the main team working on the game + upwards of 50 people from third party studios (seems to be true)
Huge if true that CP2077 shitting the bed so hard made Capcom delay the game to really clean it up.

Unless this means each region has its own 12 big dungeons, I'd expect the same issue of the first game: going back to the same fucking handful of dungeons over and over and over again. Sounds, to me, like each region will have 3 dungeons that you'll end up revisiting on repeat until it's time to move on to the next zone. And maybe something special for the final act of the game like the Tainted Mountain that isn't accessible outside of that portion of the game.

i am so fucking ready for DD2 man. they aren't shy about showing gameplay and have even got it on steam already. highest of hopes for the highest of betrayals, let's go.

tbh tho the only part that looks fucking weird are the khajiit knockoffs. they don't have appropriate voices/filters and look dumb. not a fan, but it won't degrade the game for me at all.

If there's no anti-furry personality I will literally make my pawn the most violent guy and finding the local "kill everyone" spell to give to him.

If there's a racism personality schema. I'm making a black fatass catboy that's racist against other beastmen and calling him Uncle Roucku.

Yeah you can tell no furry has touched the beastmn, there's a lack of sexual degeneracy that's nice. For once.

"Don't trust dem furries over dere! They gonna shed all over da glorious human man's carpet. Ain't nobody got a vaccum spell big enough for dem fleas. Git your furry self shaved so you can contribute to Human society. Or go git eaten by a dragon."

Hopefully Capcom will remember what truly made the first game such a captivating experience from the start…… a out of place J-Rock song on the main title screen. “Into Free- Dangan” was a certified banger and it was a crime that the rerelease removed it (for most likely licensing reasons, but still).

Seriously though I’d be genuinely happy if this sequel really was just “the first game but betterer, morerrr, and coolererrr”. Don’t over think it Crapcom and make it for the people who have been begging for it for years not for the consoomer zombies that latch on to things because they get popular on social media.

super happy that they retooled spirit lancer for single player, it was one of my favourite classes in DDO. I hope that thief gets some of the goofy wire combos that it had there as well later on in the game.

I can't wait. Give me DD1 with a few different classes and I'm happy.

I do wish they would lean into the survival side of things, without turning it into a survival game. The early hours of DD1 where you had to walk/run between the towns, getting caught out at night, running low on resources, trying to make it to an outpost to stock up etc were loads of fun.

Fast travel should only be where you inhabit the body of a pawn in another town so that you can check stores, but not buy, and hand in quests. Buying and doing anything else in town should force you to make the journey across the wilderness.
