Dragon Quest 10: Offline Edition looks like it's heading westward.

It's getting a general asia release and may have a barebones english option to start. But also Square is slotting it for some online events intended for western audiences.

Certainly would be nice to finally have a complete version of this game. You have shit like Monster Hunter Tri which came out around the same console generation where the online died and half the game's content died with it. Not even 3 Ultimate restored stuff that was taken out.

They've rebalanced 10 so it can be played by a single player, it's still an offline MMO but they're apparently keeping things more manageable and adjusted drop rates and difficulty. It's also rumored that Final Fantasy 11 may get a similar treatment in the future.

The japanese are showing off DQX stuff

Nah FF3 is fun. QT final boss, too.
It had the random encounter rate tuned insanely high and at endgame everything had a ton of HP it got real tedious. I'd sooner take 2's method of self harming yourself to get stronger than what 3 did.

So is this like Maintenance Mode or is this just a thing they want to do to make it more accessible to non-MMO players and it would still get updated?
its getting a non-mmo based release.

It's an entirely offline release intended for single players with all the content on the disc itself.

Since there's no international release now, they can get away with charging 80-90 bucks for it.

I'm going through DQ V, and I do agree that this is probably the best game in the series. The story is so much more personal than the others I've played, and the monster catching mechanic gives the game a degree of customization that was somewhat absent in IV.

Something I really like though is the twist that you aren't the legendary hero, and as far as I know, this is the only game where you straight up aren't the hero. Instead, your children are the legendary heroes. I love this because it's not only a nice subversion of the DQ formula, it also adds the notion that, legendary hero or not, you can still influence the state of the world, and that's what matters most. Plus, without you, the legendary hero would literally not exist.

Part of me wishes that other DQ games could explore this, because it is a pretty bold move not just for DQ but for video games in general, but then that is what makes V so special in the first place.

I know that feel man. Everyone around me is turning out the same way and I keep wondering why I haven't. Sure, this guy has some pretty abhorrent revisionist views but god damn can't some of us grieve or be upset over someone's death without some autistical faggoty screed about it? It's not like he was actually going around stomping in the skulls of queers or Koreans.
That'd be cool if he was doing that to his own battle music.

That's kind of a lot for an old port gutted of its online components, isn't it?

Still cool, I'd try it.

I wouldn't really call it gutted, they've taken everything and turned it into a single player game. So stuff that required multiple people can now be done with NPCs. It's all been reworked and rebalanced and all the content is there on the disc.

Idk, a game built specifically with massively multiplayer gameplay in mind, never intended as a single player game, will probably will have a rocky transition imo.

I'm not counting it out, just speculating.

They pushed it back so I wonder just how much it needed work. We're a good bit away from release for 10.

There's been noted delays in 3 HD and 12 as well, supposedly it has to do with region specific releases. The global release is still happening but it's rumored that the western countries are getting it on different platforms than Asia is. This isn't anything new but it makes me wonder what exactly is being done. We're supposed to get updates but they're months away.

I figure it going to be like last time where there's a PC and Console release.
