The whole thing about him withholding the orchestral versions of the soundtrack from western releases only applied to the 3DS remakes of 7 and 8. On top of that it was only rumored to be the reason, could've just been SE looking to save on printing larger cartridges. As for 11 releasing with the midi soundtrack, it was like that for the Japanese release too.
While his stance on music copyright can be a piss off, props are due to him actually having ownership of his work. That's a huge rarity for any artist working for a major company. Uematsu doesn't own his compositions for FF.

The "controversial" exchange with a politician during his channel show in 2015 re-surfaced again during the Tokyo Olympics too, once again to attempt to have him be cancelled.

The whole situation turned out to be a big Nothing Pan.

Mostly because Dragon Quest only recently gained popularity in the west. And nothing about the history of the series is that ingrained in the western hemisphere yet like Persona or Final Fantasy.

I would say the story was probably promoted to stir controversy to try and drum up sales. more than any actual outrage. You can look at the recent Olympics for example where they did pull people last minute and were forced to use game music for the ceremonies, that was a more sincere attempt than anything relating to getting rid of Dragon Quests' composer.

In my defense, I didn't say he hated the gays either; I'm going off with what Wikipedia wrote and at worst he was dismissive of their concerns. When I said 'rescinded', I was referring to how he thinks the government should help them.
