🐮 Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

The sad thing is if he had spent the time and money he wasted on making it look like a bordello from a cheesy 70's porno and used that on important things, like the engine, it might have been a useable boat.

Anyone else think he will try to sell it?
I think on some level he realizes his fantasies of commanding a crew of lusty wenches that must obey his every command or be forced to walk the plank is not going to happen.

I'm not a boat person. Is it generally a good idea to raise the sails on a boat while it is moored to a dock like that? Seems like it could do a lot of damage if a strong gust came by.
I think it might depend on how they're rigged and which what they're facing, but I also don't know. Knowing Doug, the stupidest option is probably true.

Putting the battens on the wrong side is a pretty big fucking deal. It shows a complete lack of foresight and planning. It might even make the sail work differently.

@TheGoodNamesHaveBeenTaken
The boat is worth less than scrap value, because it costs money to move it to the scrappers. I hope he tries to sell it.

To sane people yes.
But to Dough's cult followers it is priceless.
Granted I doubt any of them have any money.
I could see a group of them pooling their funds and buying it to carry on Dough's mission of "research".
A thousand lolcows each owning 1/1000th of a boat that barley floats.
Many gallons of milk would flow!

Watch the vid. His prop pitch controller was spec'd to run on ATF but the pump leaked fluid into the motor so big brain Doug replaced the ATF with motor oil in case it leaks again.
His aptitude at all things mechanical is really on par with the musical genius of Russel Greer, or keen legal insights of Melinda Leigh Scott. Kinda makes me wonder how far he can sail on retard luck alone on this project.

That poor 12 valve Cummins engine didn't deserve this fate.

Notes from the video I watched (not a boat person):
- Wrong grade of bolt for the universal shaft. - Pretty sure the "lock washers" he chose are for grounding things electrically. You'd want to use a nylock washer for the vibration and load
-"I really don't like lockwashers" oh no
-again with the wrong oil type in that expensive looking transmission
- plumbing flux for making his coax connector?? The ones I've put together have been a compression or crimp fitting
-lol it is a crimp fitting why did he bother with the soldering iron
-the guy climbing the mast can't tie a fucking knot I hope he doesn't die from that
-small point but it would be easier to send the tools up to the guy in a burlap bag so they can't hurt him by swinging around or get caught in equipment/other ropes
-okay he apparently knows what a block is but didn't use it on mission critical drivetrain components??
-oh man that hydraulic motor is chattering bad
-air in the hydraulic lines will cause cavitation and trips to the hospital
-got 5 seconds into the computer animated mouse video before I clicked out

"Mistakes were made"
"We build it right because we build it twice"

Highlights:
-A block sounds like it's going to come apart under load during the first sail raising.
-Doug moves the sail battens because he made the sails backwards, and replaces stainless zipties with fishing line. Edit: Twice. He built the sails backwards twice.
-All the sail handling lines are red for ease of identification
-Doug is going on another vacation. Mini golf this time.

Well, maybe Alexandria can be his obedient lusty wench.

True. It needs to go down in a dead calm sea and everyone needs to survive.
Easier to get footage that way.
Listening to Doug bitch about the coast guard's response will be the best part.
This sentiment right here is where I want to point all the people who insist that kiwifarms is just a murder machine. It's not. It's honest journalistic objectivism, which naturally breeds an appreciation of dark humor. People are going to die. It's funnier if we can talk about it freely. Laughter makes the pain of the initial loss easier. Circle of life.

ETA: typo

Knots? What the fuck does a mariner need knots for?

“We’ve got to see if we can outrun the current in the river and if we can, later this month we’ll be heading on down the river to Kerr reservoir….”
This bit is just pure gold, shows he has no confidence in his vessel to be able to navigate a river any better than a log raft.
What's striking too is the lack of courage after the year stuck in the parking lot. Is Doug perhaps coming to terms with how ill prepared this whole adventure is now that actual danger is staring him in the face and not just meanies online?

New video.

Highlights:

Doug and friends go to the junkyard to find parts off an old Mazda for a critical system.
Doug realizes putting motor oil in a hydraulic system was a bad idea.
Doug calls out the "trolls".
