Well, he's got it moving now, at least with the motor.
Well that didn't last long.

LMAO

I wonder if he's got a transmission cooler set up, and if he realizes that due to the undersized motor the transmission will be undersized too.

Apparently old 2 speed PowerGlide transmissions were OK for marine use but not for seafaring craft. 15 years of work and he's dead set on using a clapped out school bus powertrain.

The fucking overthinking too. Why would you bother trying to Mickey mouse the torque converter and fucking around with gear ratios when you can just get a proper marine gearbox?

I just realized he wants to weld it into 3rd gear. Inshallah, I desire nothing more than to see this. 3rd gear on a likely 3 or 4 gear trans, the gear you engage at over 30mph, moving a few tons of steel through water from standstill. I hope he records it because there will be sounds.

Doug seems like the kind of asshat who would weld his car's diff and then go all Surprised Pikachu Face when he has a hard time driving slowly around corners and/or starts breaking driveshafts.

Highlights:

Doug floods the boat because he doesn't remember how his toilet works

Doug realizes he misinterpreted the ambiguous labels on his prop pitch handle, so he was trying to make the boat go forward on a feathered prop.

God this is so much fun to watch. It’s like watching the groverhaus is real time.

Just put an LS1 in there bro lmao

...I'm actually surprised he didn't put an LS1, or a 454, or some other hot rod engine in there.
...or just use a marine rated cat or Cummins engine that's designed to run at a constant load and rpm for days at a time. Maybe something with enough power for all of that drag?

Look here son; I'm a certified reverse engineer, and I say that my Briggs and Stratton 3 horse will drive anything. Yes sir, an American made engine will take you anywhere you want to go.

2 other issues:

Doug's putting trim lead in the fuel tanks, thus reducing tank volume. Won't the lead react with the diesel fuel and gum up his fuel system?

Water in the fuel. Where did it come from? He glossed over it. If it's rainwater through a deck fitting, sure, fine. If not? Oh boy.

I'm floored that the through hull valve is so hard to get to and requires tools to close.

I also wonder about his use of PEX to transfer diesel. I'm not sure PEX is rated for it, I've never seen it anyway.

Nitpicky, but I think it's retarded he's using wifi enabled home smoke detectors as his fire detection system. Not something I would trust my life to. Most good 120v smoke alarms have an interconnection feature and are much more robust, if you insist on not using a marine rated fire detection system.

I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the torque converter saga.

With the amount of math he scribbles out, everything is fucking off. The boat doesn't float right, all the pumps overheat and all his breakers keep tripping. Amp load should be easy as fuck to figure out.

Uh just get bigger and bigger breakers until something catches on fire obviously

"I'm the owner of the boat, not the Captain." --Doug laying groundwork for disclaiming responsibility for when something inevitably happens.

I would normally say to anyone considering buying that deathtrap off him that I have a bridge to sell them, but in this case a bridge would be an infinitely better option for crossing a body of water.

It would be a better idea to purposefully sink the boat for a marine habitat.

With a little bit less ego Doug could have made a really impressive craft. After seeing the latest video I see he's put in an incredible amount of time and effort, a lot of the systems he made are super complex. The workmanship looks good too for the most part.

The biggest issue is his complete lack of documentation. He's got miles of hoses and wiring and so many valves, but he's already getting lost in it. His shitty labeling cost him a bunch of time with the prop. He has to skim his own youtube for pointers. What's he going to do 2 years down the line in an emergency?

Wherein Doug runs aground at an overnight anchorage and he has to tow himself off with the dinghy.

He also admits that the weight aft is a problem, and he talks about welding some blisters on to "add more boat" for the buoyancy.
