I don't know much about boats
I don't know much about masts
I don't know much about welding
But...
I know that looks atrocious
I would be shocked if he got any real penetration with his little welder. On a piece that size you probably need a 3 phase welder.
I wondered what happened to the tender. That video was amazing. I didn't realize he claimed they took the electronics off of the VW Diesel. I don't know where you would find mechanical injectors and a mechanical fuel pump for somthing like that. I think even the Diesel VW Rabbits had electronic injectors and fuel pumps.
Electromechanical, likely something like Bosch Direct Injection/CIS. Ze Germans had been playing around with electronic injection since at least 1978, there's no ECUs. Jettas iirc had some model years that spanned pre and post ECU eras so you could have the motor run purely mechanically.

That poor fuckin schoolbus motor. I don't know how they expect it to tow anything.

Don’t worry, Doug is going to immolate himself long before the engine drops out.

Bright boy Doug opens up his aluminum sewage tank by grinding open the cover and welding it back afterwards. I wonder how much methane is going to build up in there when it actually gets used.

For now, Doug reveals they are using a bucket full of wood shavings up on deckas their toilet. Classy!

Emptying the bucket will become too much work.
He will soon just start whipping it out over the edge of the deck or hanging his bare ass over to drop a duce.

Likewise washing clothes will be too much trouble and Doug will start strutting around nude.

After first saying he was going to stay in Kerr for the rest of the season he's now in an awful big rush to get a move on.
The videos documenting him littering have been reported to the marina and various local authorities by toxic haters so that could be why.

Let’s see how much longer that grinding disc goes before exploding due to glazing.

For those not in metalworking fields, soft metals need to be ground with wheels that are formulated to not allow the material to stick to the wheel. Otherwise the soft material will tend to stick to the wheel causing it to get out of balance or overheat which can be detrimental to one’s ongoing existence on this earth. Especially when one doesn’t believe in basic safety precautions like our MENSA candidate here.

I hope when he does get get injured this video is exhibit A for the insurance company’s decision not to pay out.

Who is recording these videos? I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the room with a guy using a tool like that for any amount of money unless I had a welder's mask and full-body chainmail. Jesus.

Tripod-San, hopefully. The fucking guard he took off the grinder would have stopped the wheel from exploding everywhere.

It's clear he's never been seriously hurt. Losing a finger is horrific, and impact your life forever. A cutoff wheel will do only "soft tissue damage" yeah but I'd rather not have my face split open, thanks. A single slip of a good grinder wheel into your finger is automatically at least three stitches.

Sadly it’s not a tripod. His camera buddy comments a couple times while they search for broken cutoff disk.

Doug shows he has some limited safety sense (and major hypocrisy) when he puts on gloves and safety glasses before messing with the messed up grinder wheel. Gee Doug, I thought it was just some light soft tissue damage. Why the gloves?

Doug moves downriver, and winds up in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

And runs aground.

Gotta say, I'm impressed he got it that far before an incident.

Doug is a precious gift. In this land of zoosadists, horrorcows, and basic bitch Becky’s we have this glorious boat cow.

“Had a good day on the river except for slamming my boat into some rocks. Ohhhhh lookit the armchair admiral that studies charts and doesn’t ram into submerged structures! Whatever you soyboys, me and my crew are gonna take a dump in a bucket and weld some scrap onto the front of the boat so don’t have to worry about rocks and crap.”

Onward to glory, Doug!

Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm.
I hope he was cameras rolling when the water blows out the school bus windows in the pilot house.
I eagerly await his explanation that things are going "Just as I planned. You wouldn't want dry, functional controls in here after running aground. Land lubbers don't know this but boat controls actually work better when wet."

I just had a better look at those sonar charts, and, you'd have to be an absolute brainlet to ignore the gigantic dotted line going across the screen. He 100% doesn't refer to actual navigational charts or research his destination because a fucking rock wall won't be some surprise.
Navigational charts? A real man doesn't need charts! All you need is intuition and a compass!

The masts are welded into place. Doug scoffs at weenies who wear boots when welding. “Just don’t drop slag on your feet!” He’s still guessing at rigging and in a surprising bit of foresight ends up cutting 3.5 feet off the top of his main mast before venturing further downriver. A barge captain had pointed out he’d probably scrape bridges if he kept the original height.

He points out a pile of sacrificial anodes at one point. At least the boat has some protection.
