🐮 Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

The sheet of water pouring in off the mast was spectacular. Locks on the fridge drawers? Nah, see there’s lots of ways to do things and you don’t need to tell him your dumb way because that’s, like, just your opinion man.

He’s a gem. A lolcow to the end but he’s never going to give up on this monstrosity of a boat and I can’t help but admire that a bit.

I laugh at the tagline, “The boat the internet built”. Truth in advertising right there.

A minor update, Doug sings the praises of the Starlink satellite internet system.

The fun part is them chopping up some metal to make standoffs for the dish. When you’ve got a metal boat and a welder, every surface can hold equipment.

In the comments a helpful firefighter asks if they have fire suppression in the engine room. Doug shoots back, “yes I have mom thank you.”

Classy.

Wherein Doug decides that the best way to drain his septic system is to pressurize it with compressed air.

Pay no attention to the fact that his through hull discharge valve is open.
imagine living with this man. sleeping next to him at night. waking up in the morning to the coffee maker completely disassembled and him having a strokefest about "learning lessons and fixing". he turns to you, veins bulging. "WHAT DID YOU MAKE TODAY" he says. you look down and the floorboards have been painted red and black, with yellow chop-chop letters spelling your name (incorrectly).

Every minute of every day, he breaks another appliance or tool in the house.

I'm so glad his wife got out while the getting was good.

For marine, high vibration or critical applications, hose clamps are garbage. Cinch rings are what you want. Hose clamps have a tendency to work themselves loose, especially if there's a solenoid involved in the system.
I've yet to see an ABA clamp fail but that's beside the point, literally anything is superior to nothing but bare naked hose.

Biggest issue with this style of clamp is overtightening. Who knows, maybe that will be the next dumb adventure Doug embarks upon?

I've had them come off of 60psi hoses that supplied a solenoid, apparently the water hammering makes them slip off over time. Not sure why or how a cinch ring stops this but it does.

Anything that's low psi and without solenoids would be fine, but if I were at sea I'd probably opt for cinch rings just to be safe.

What are the chances he pussies out and doesn't take it to blue water? Surely hes getting close (closer?)
I'd hate to see him cop out, but wouldn't exactly be suprised.
Do to his sea sickness last I heard the plan was for someone else to pilot the ship to whatever exciting/ scientific/ profitable /sexy port of call that would be their destination.
Then Doug would fly in, catch a smaller boat to his boat and resume command.

I'm not sure where Doug is going to find someone willing to pilot his floating pile of crap for less than free.
Probably the same place he will find universities full of nubile young co-eds that are willing to set sail with Captain Doug "Your Safety Is Not My Responsibility" Jackson.

He's not going to get anyone professional to accept money to do it, *especially* if Doug's not on board. They know better, because the first question at a board of inquiry is going to be, "Did you, Captain Anon, in your professional experience, have any reservations to the seaworthiness of S.V. Seeker?"

that's well and good but more importantly, you don't install an extra fuel / water separator of that size in line there and hope that your outboard's going to be able to pump the fuel through it. it's just not done by anyone, anywhere. it was a dumb 'hack' of an idea that had no chance of working at all, and in typical consumerist DIY fashion he's blamed the 'product'. he needs to take better care of his fuel.

It's a no-name filter housing off amazon. Even if he wasn't using it in a retarded fashion, it was going to end in tears sooner or later.

Doug has been feeling a little grumpy lately and wants his fans to know not to mess with the mayor of frown town.

Will this be the first sharp edge in Doug's undoing? Synthetic winch line frets very readily.

Doug I know you won't read this, but tugs don't use amsteel for working line because it has no stretch and therefore no ability to cushion dynamic loading. The nylon Samson recommends for tug towing and mooring has 8% stretch at 30% breaking strength compared to <1% for amsteel.
