I liked the creep ass architecture and tricks of doom64.

It seems like the same amount of energy in making bastard maps for plutonia went into making doom 64 maps look and feel good.

The definitive experience will always be the PSX DOOM.

Both games' maps, DOOM 2"s enemies in the first game's levels, 64's fucking creepy music.

Fight me.

Not all the levels though, there were some that were left out or changed due to technical limitations. It still plays well today and as you say is very atmospheric, but does suffer from framerate issues and the lack of saves is a pain on higher difficulties. Still has one of my all-time favourite bits of cover art though.

I was so pissed that it didn't add a new gun.

I hope, HOPE the Unmaker does some crazy shit to the Demons when it kills them, like disentegrate them or something just as bat shit insane.

I WANT THOSE WEAPON FEATS DAMN IT, MY GAMER CRED SAYING DOOM GUY COULD KILL AN ASTARTES DEMANDS IT.

I've been thinking about the whole question of Bethesda, ID and Zenimax for a while and here's my 2 cents on it. Bear in mind this is just a prediction based on previous behavior and experience.

First of all, I don't believe Bethesda has much, if any, control over ID. A lot of people assume that Bethesda owns ID but that's not the case, Zenimax owns ID and seems to have final word over all business decisions within the company. Bethesda only publishes the games ID makes and during the development of DOOM 4, they sent a few advisors to ID to help them get back on track when they started over on the reboot, which ID themselves requested and by all accounts, appreciated. Another interesting bit of info is why Zenimax exists. Bethesda pretty much created Zenimax to be their parent company, I think around 2000, because they almost went bankrupt. Zenimax was meant to oversee their finances and never let them get that close to bankrupt again.

This is all a very long winded way of saying that Zenimax is the boss, and Zenimax seems to be a very hands off boss, letting the studios they own do whatever they want so long as they bring in a profit. Let's not forget, Zenimax has owned ID since 2009, seven years before DOOM 4 released and they never seemed bothered by the development hell or money they were likely losing to the project.

Is there anywhere that has everything we know about Doom 4 compiled in one place to look through? I know TCRF has a few scant things about it (since there are a few FEW assets left in the game itself) but I don't know where to go for more.

They’re really confident about this one. T-Pain played the first 2 hours on Stream yesterday with the game’s director riding shotgun.
Has T-Pain always been a bro btw? I remember seeing him cosplay as that new wu tang-looking Tekken character a few months ago. Shame Leroy ended up being so broken that it ruined the first big tournament of the year, with no end in sight.

I think they were definitely close to losing money, especially with unreal engine 3 stealing idtech 4's thunder. idtech 5 is a joke, and the flagship game that shipped it(Rage) wasn't a benchmark title for anything. Doom 4 was looking to be a COD rip-off, and with good reason: gotta follow that dosh.

Well, looks like the art book for Doom Eternal has leaked on 4Chan and some of it has wound up on the Doomworld forums (Yeah, I know).

I'm glad they're moving away from the arena based combat, my main criticism of Doom 2016 was that towards the end it got a bit samey and felt like just going from one arena to the other. Only slight concern I have with Eternal is there looks like there's so much to do it might lose focus, but I've preordered so can't complain if it does turn out to be a let down.

Not looking that artbook. I want at least some surprise going into Eternal, and I've already looked at too much of the game already.

Understandable. I'm just so excited for this game. I wonder which tracks that Mick Gordon had his Metal Choir record for. Those will be dope.
