Rage 2 is doing a surprisingly good job of scratching the FPS itch in lieu of Eternal. I'll admit I've always found an autistic sort of enjoyment in chasing map icons and tons of redundant character upgrades, so your mileage will vary on that, but the combat is really, really strong.

The shotgun has an overpowered slug mode too, so

My only concern is the focus on story - gives me feelings there's going to be cutscenes all over which would go against the flow.

Still, they've earned the benefit of the doubt.

Good lord am I glad I didn't refund my deluxe edition copy when I heard the delay come around; my will is strong for Doom.

This trailer makes me want to cry because I need to wait TWO FUCKING MONTHS to do the stuff in the trailer personally. Damn you ID Software for delaying and making a great game even better! Curse you and your decent ways!

Also, Doom Slayer confirmed human and Angels are self serving pricks. No surprises there.

The genius of 2016 was that it had a fantastic story and excellent world building, but didn't force you to stand still and listen. Well, except for that one bit in the office - even so, as black and thin the main storyline was, it supported a ton of great writing. It's why I worry we're going to get a lot of cutscenes instead spelling everything out.

And seconding that it's great Slayer is human. Was never too keen on the alien Demons layer idea.

I can see a number of those shots as simply them pulling the camera out of the character and slowing the sequence down so it can look best in the trailer. But like in the game it'll maybe be a brief pause to setup the scene.

The giant pentagram on Earth gave me giant boner.

I just want a level set on Earth. That's all I want and I'm happy. I just want to see demons and maybe a giant Spider Mastermind terrorizing suburbia (an image from the Doom novels if anyone remembers those).

I hope Doom Eternal is secret mormon propaganda like the books were. The slayer wears his temple garment under all that armor.

Those console ports of Doom and Doom II received patches that massively improve them.

In short, the patch buffed the game up from 35 fps to 60 fps, corrected that irritating SFX pitch shift thing, fixed the aspect ratio, changed the weapon switching to resemble Night Dive's releases of Blood and Turok, and allows access to WADS such as Final Doom, No Rest for the Living, and Sigil. Having played it before and after the patch, it's insane how much better it is. It plays closer to a modern source port than the initial release did.

It's like Doom is the only property Bethesda cares about at this point.

I don't know if I like Bethesda treating Doom as their golden goose; look at what happened to Elder Scrolls, for cripes sake.

I mean, that ain't gonna stop ID Software from making the best game in 2020 IMO (FIGHT ME, CYBERPUNK FAGS), but that's just my paranoia speaking it's mind.

You ask me it's like Bethesda realized how badly they fucked up 2019 between Wolfenstein and Fallout, and right now Doom's about the only thing they haven't completely soiled yet. What better way to butter up the fans than by actually improving the console ports of the originals?
