This actually made me curious (at least curious enough to check out the first google result) and according to my exhaustive research roughly 45% of a ticket sale go to the production/distribution companies which is less than in the US where around 60%. The ticket prices also seem to be around half of what the US prices are. It has to be a "quantity has a quality of it's own" thing because per capita it deosnt seem to be worth it.

foreign share is always lower, I think 45% is around average. china is attractive because they apparently have huge amounts of screens, so a lot of possible ticket sales. the question is how much a peasant is gonna pay and if they even buy your stuff. iirc there's also a limit on number of movies that are allowed in per year (to not smother the local industry or something, although the government started to gut them last year or so when it became to independent and/or "western"). plus the usual limitations of operating in china - so all that pandering might be for naught if your movie doesn't get picked or your local "partner" rips you off.

the other thing is how many people are not gonna see your movie when you pander to china too hard (there's probably a fancy economics term for it) and how much that pandering costs in itself - extra shoots, recuts etc.

there's probably money in it, else companies wouldn't do it, I'm just wondering if it's feasible and not just chasing "emergent markets" and possible some high-level laundering scheme etc.

They still hadn't learned their lessons...*sighs* The guys of Clownfish tv vlogged about ths.

I saved that comment for posterity.

As a black person I feel highly disrespected by Disney This is Tokinism. At his finest

Btw, if their excuse is "because it's 2020", why they haven't add more hispanics and asians?

"Yeah we brown nosed the CCP so hard with Mulan that the government is shutting coverage down because it drew too much attention to their Xinjiang concentration camps, but at LEAST we're not anti black"

They're making "racebending for POC representation" a fad like how "dark and gritty" was a fad lmfao

So they'll proudly proclaim to the rooftops the brave and bold decision to make a fairy with a minor role in the movie black, yet completely ignore any possible attempt at proper Native American representation for the movie. No Disney, don't actually fix any of the racist overtones of your past movies: make a white character black. Not even Asian, Hispanic, Germanic, Polynesian: always black, because it's the most recognizable indicator of change to the character's design that will cause outrage.

...Christ, Disney: you went so far into tokenism, you just wrapped right back around to being unintentionally racist again.

Disney's caving in to the whole "Latinx" nonsense:

I can't say I'm shocked that their Television Animation division are the ones pushing this seeing as how woke that particular sector has gotten in recent years.

Black Tinkerbell? Alright. But why didn't they also put Wendy in a wheelchair? Better yet, why not get @Wendy Wheelchair to play Wendy in this movie? Yeah I know he's a dude (now) what are you sexist or something?

Of course Tinkerbell is black. She's irrationally angry all of the time and screws her own "friends" over as revenge for not getting her coochie plowed because her man chose another woman.

Ignoring the use of 'latinx', the dead giveaway that a bunch of white libs in a boardroom came up with this banner is their inclusion of my man Carioca:

Because everything south of the border is just 'latino', obviously.

Always worth bringing up that actual Latinos hate shit like this. Forced inclusion is something they mock constantly, this is clearly an American thing they think is hilarious because it is. Even if it wasn't for "Latinx" they'd be pointing and laughing at this.

It looks like Doomcock was wrong... again. :story:

He probably was, but something tells me this was already in the pipeline well before Doomcock made his bold predictions on Disney leaning away from woke.

If Doomcock did somehow end up being accidentally right, we might not even know until most of the projects greenlit in the Iger era are finally finished cycling out since Chapek's main objective will be ensuring Iger's greenlit projects get done and that Disney stays afloat post-COVID during his first few years as CEO. Bob Iger's still got a few months as CEO and is a known major megalomaniac and control freak who will greenlit a bunch of shit all at once and keep his guys in control (who are mostly wokesters) as much as he can

We won't know if Chapek will buck the trend until at least 2023 since 2021 and most of 2022 will be spent trying to keep everything afloat and completed after Corona before anything else.

They "like" Latinos so much that they can't even use their language. They shudder by just thinking about Spanish, they have to use neologisms instead.

Say what you will about Dick, but he hit the nail on the head here:

Especially since there IS a Three Caballero who is from a Spanish speaking country, and iirc he had some decent level celeb voice him in the recent series.

Where did Panchito go, anyway? I get that Jose Carioca's the bigger star, but...
