Twitter is apparently trying to cancel fucking Splash Mountain because it's racist or some shit, even though literally all the kinda-racist themes from the original Song of the South are buried deep in Disney's vaults and they refuse to let them see the light of the day.

What do they think will happen, Splash Mountain gets converted to a Star Wars or Marvel ride and magically, police brutality stops? This is how you know the protests have lost momentum, now it's all about canceling cop shows and Splash Mountain, things that only accomplish making armchair liberals feel better.

Splash Mountain is popular among parks fans and Disney is only woke when it doesn't get in the way of their profits—and they don't have the money to make any changes due to the pandemic making them bleed money to the point of canceling several ongoing construction projects—so most likely nothing will happen.
 
Imagine being so narcissistic that you want all media and entertainment to cater to your sensibilities.

If I don't like something, I simply don't partake in it, and I imagine most people are sensible enough to do that.

Leading a hashtag holy war against every little thing you don't like is obnoxious and makes it look like you are trying to parent the entire world.

They've had multiple opportunities to do that and they didn't take any. They've probably concluded it isn't worth it. There'll be protests no matter if it's something priced well out of the reach of kids and has disclaimers all over.

Still, never say never.

They're still making Brer Rabbit comics... overseas.

yeah, it's very clear the Mouse decided many years ago that it wasn't worth the effort, and to be fair they've been (as far as I've seen) very light in coming down on copies in fan circulation and online
last I saw archive had two different HD transfers from 35mm prints
as much as Disney is ass. from what I've seen they tend to go light on things that aren't impacting their profits, like those Martin Tribute videos

If they did, Song of the South material would be available outside of the US and it'd be a worldwide ban. But they know they'd catch shit for it in the US, so they get rid of it here while making money off of it overseas. Its gross.

It's a real sign of immaturity.

When I was in my late teens and early 20s I used to get really irate over Reality TV, your Jersey Shores, your Honey Boo Boos, your Keeping Up With the Kardashians and so on.

Until I realized none of that shit matters and it's easily ignored.

They put it out on VHS but it's never been available on DVD or Blu-Ray anywhere. They still do comics with the animal characters overseas, but they've been entirely divorced from the Uncle Remus context. They published one over here a few years ago, though.

From what I’ve read, they want it changed to a Princess and the Frog ride, which if Disney were to actually change the ride (they aren’t going to, it’s a dumb decision) would be a plausible idea for them to retheme it to, since both movies take place in a Southern bayou setting.

At least they’re not demanding for a Captain Marvel’s Splash Zone idea so they do have some common sense albeit not a lot.

Splash Mountain, by itself, is pretty much Song of the South with everything offensive taken out of it. I don't see why Disney would change the ride, since that costs a hell of a lot of money. (Of course, you'll say, what about Pirates of the Caribbean? Replacing a few animatronics is different from rehauling the ride.)

Rate me autistic for knowing this but the two Splash Mountains are themed after different parts of the South because of their different settings, which is represented in the ride's music. The California one has the bayou setting because it's near New Orleans Square, while the Florida one is more country to represent Fronteirland and Georgia, where Song of the South is set. It'd make sense in Disneyland, but what about at the other parks (Tokyo's is just Florida's but mirrored), which have a different setting? Of course expecting those calling for this to think that far ahead is too much.
 
It would be a shame to erase Splash Mountain, the Uncle Remus stories are Black American folklore. I learned about them in elementary school, and I always thought they were fun stuff to know alongside Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed.

Nope. They removed that scene and replaced it with a regular auction. It’s been gone for over a year.

It's in Louisiana. Its in a bayou....

Tianas Resturant needs to be made too but they're not smart enough for that. Personally I don't mind if they change it.

Not to erase Splash Mountain but SOTS will never ever be rereleased especially not now. Sad.
