I really have nothing to say, you're absolutely right Mickey was sterilized way long ago because Walt made him the mascot. But I do love the old Mickey Mouse shorts. The real classic Disney shorts along with their then rival Fleischer Brothers cartoons are so much fun to watch.
I know, right? I was watching a bunch of them recently and was like "Wow... Mickey used to actually be cool." This is before you get to the cartoons that are fucked up in
other ways like The Mad Scientist.
He also had a weird habit of starring in shockingly good 16-bit games (the Illusion series on Genesis and the Magical Quest series on SNES).
Always been more of a Donald fan myself though. I think my favorite cartoon with all three of them together is The Lonesome Ghosts.
..... Though the absolute
best Disney character was Professor Ludwig Von Drake, but unfortunately he's obscure because most of his appearances were in a show called Wonderful World of Disney, which largely repackages existing material... and when it came time for DVD or digital re-releases, Disney often prefers the original (pre-Ludwig) versions, even in cases where Ludwig's addition legitimately improves the story. Meaning the poor professor is consigned to being just some guy who occasionally gets mentioned in duck media.
Thankfully some of his stuff got VHS and Laserdisc appearances back in the day and a lot of it has been preserved on the Internet Archive, and I happened to find it last night while looking for Disney pilot episodes.

Wonderful World of Disney Volume 3 - I feel like a lot of what's said in the "Ducking Disaster" episode is still relevant in this day and age. The "Reason and Emotion" bit has a scene of a man who goes nuts because of too much media input.... it almost feels like its talking about the terminally online, but of course it was made decades earlier.
Donald Duck Kids is Kids is on there
twice. Which I was happy about as I had actually been searching for this one, as its a major case where Ludwig's presence improves the classic cartoons..
It's too bad they don't have the full series, or even just every episode that features Von Drake. I would legit pay money for a collection like that.
I gotta hand it to how Ludwig is inserted. Awhile back I was watching some similar repackagings of Looney Tunes shorts with similar newly-inserted wraparound stories... but when WB does it, you can always blatantly tell when something is a new addition and when something is from the classic era, the art shift is just so jarring. Ludwig though looks like he was always a part of these cartoons to the point where its more jarring to find out he
wasn't.
