New trailer for Lightyear is out, film drops on June 17th.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=BwZs3H_UN3k
WTF is this movie? Isn’t the premise that this man is the guy the toys and merchandise are based off of? That he is a real astronaut? If so then where are all the alien and robots coming from, Toy Story had a realistic world outside of the whole toys come to life thing. I don’t understand the direction of this film, is it about the real astronaut, is it a fictional show, both, what is going on?

The toy is based on the character in this movie.

Apparently it's based on the real Buzz Lightyear, which in turned inspired the popular cartoon and toy in Toy Story 1.

This is where my confusion comes in, since when did Toy Story have aliens and robots? The toys came to life, but outside of that the series universe itself was normal. This new Buzz movie seems far fetched tbh and not fitting with the rest of the series.

I feel the same way. What confuses me is that they could have easily done this as a way to show why Buzz lightyear T.V. show was so popular with the kids in the first Toy Story. I remember in the second movie Stinky Pete was upset how the astronauts in Toy Story universe caused Woody's Roundup to drop in popularity, but that would had been decades before the popularity of the Buzz Lightyear toys.

Some Kiwi on here already made a thread for this, but Oscars 2022 nominations came in, and no surprise: EVERYTHING‘S COMING UP (almost) DISNEY:

Haven't you heard?! Anime is PROBLEMATIC, PEDOPHILIC, and UNWOKE, and therefore, it doesn't deserve recognition by us enlightened Westerners. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch Cuties.....

Knowing Pixar we might get a scene at the end where the camera pulls out to reveal Andy and his mum watching it in the cinema and him asking for the toy.

Pixar usually takes home the prize, but their offering this year is Luca, which is Italian and therefore white and not diverse, so it's not the woke option (even with the one-armed dad counting towards visible physical disability). Disney proper has Raya which is better because it's generically Asian so it's technically diverse, but Asians are a coin toss in regards to being a properly diverse option so it's not really all that woke. Encanto however takes place in South American and everyone is brown and black on top of having "diverse body types" (or whatever they call it for the huge and strong sister) which makes it not just woke but mega woke and therefore most likely candidate for winner.

I haven't heard about the other two movies before now, but apparently Flee is a documentary in animated form and is about a gay Afghan man that's already won a bunch of awards so I'd say it's a toss up between Flee and Encanto, with everything else as non-factors in this.

And are you re-tweeting the picture of Based Abby punching pedobait Uzaki-chan's head off?

I, an animation sperg, had no idea what that movie even was, there's no way the Oscar volunteers know about it, either, without sitting down to watch the file they got ages ago for judging. And if nothing's changed since 2014, the volunteers are just going to pick Disney for the name recognition alone.

You're not wrong by any means, but the Oscars have been getting heavy criticism about not being woke enough. And what easier way to be woke than to go with the gay Afghan refugee documentary. I spent all of three minutes looking it up to know that much so it's not like they have to sit down and really watch it.

But based on just brand recognition alone, yes, Encanto wins hands down. Especially with the big social media push ahead of the nominations.

And yet, with all of this, they STILL are mad. Why? Because it wasn't nominated for Best Picture.
lol at thinking encanto deserves best picture.JPG

Firstly, lol at thinking Encanto deserves Best Picture. Secondly, lol at thinking any of the mentioned pictures in the video deserve Best Picture. Up and Beauty & the Beast on there - you know, the ones that actually were nominated - were way more deserving than any of the movies mentioned (OK, maybe except Into the Spider-Verse - that was actually a legit great movie).

The fact that Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture in a year that had Silence of the Lambs, Thelma & Louise, and JFK really says a lot about how good that movie really is. Probably the biggest reason why it ultimately didn't win the top prize is because the voting panel was disgusted that some silly family animated movie was nominated alongside the serious adult live action movies and that wasn't acceptable, no matter how good it was. That's why they set aside conditions for a specific Best Animated Picture (that they ultimately had to follow through with) in order to prevent that from happening ever again. There hasn't been anything nearly that good in a long while, and it sure as hell isn't the woke brown (and black) movie that people aren't going to really remember in 10-20+ years.

Kind of like how Dumbo isn't discussed much outside the crows or the Pink Elephants scene, or Lady and the Tramp, The Sword in the Stone, the Aristocats, The Fox and the Hound, ect. I know people are going to go "but I like x movie you just named" and that's fine. There are good classic Disney movies that aren't discussed much (I loved Dumbo when I was little, lol). But it's a bit different than the ones that are really heavily discussed and looked at fondly.

What the fuck, Disney.
Everything must succumb to FROZEN or grubhub style these days. EVERYTHING. NO EXCEPTIONS.

EDIT: this kinda reminds me of that fucking image comparing the concept art of that turkey movie character tot he final design chosen where the concept art she's got a unique lively design but then the final design is "she's the girl one and has turkey boobs" Fuck corporate meddling lmao.

You can tell which direction the middle design is headed as far as the facial features, but it still had a decent Eastern dragon look to it (the whiskers help with that), and while I'm not a huge fan of the clashing pink, I dig the overall sea dragon fins look they had going on. Plus the thin body stripes that give the impression of water ripples and help tie the water element aspect together. The final design is just so boring.

Turkey tits has a mention over in the bad character design thread. But for what it's worth I always forget that movie exists unless someone brings it up, so it's not like a better design could've saved that movie anyways.

Also shouldn't it technically be the Tangled style, since they did it first?
