What's his problem lately? I don't remmber him being this much of a sperg
I mean... i went to read it and he is right? He is pointing out that it's hypocritical to pretend to be progressive by casting a brown person as snow white (to cater to the poc consumer, but also mainly to manufacture controversies) while still using disabled people as background characters for "fantasy flavor".

Calling out the shallowness of "representation politics", it is right on the money to me.

Peter Dinklage has criticised the forthcoming revival of the 1937 children’s film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, calling the story “f***ing backwards”.

The actor, who has dwarfism, was discussing the concept of “wokeness” on the latest episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast when he made the comments about the live-action remake, which will star Rachel Zegler as the Disney princess.

“Literally no offence to anyone,” he said, “but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. You’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.

“You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f***ing backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f*** are you doing man?”

The first Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs film was based on the 1812 German fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. The dwarfs in the original story and the Disney film did not live in a cave, but rather a cottage.

In other versions of the tale, including in Belgium and the Netherlands, Snow White is befriended by 17 robbers who live in a cave, rather than seven dwarfs who live in a cottage.

Dinklage, 52, added: “Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soap box? I guess I’m not loud enough. I don’t know which studio that is but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and all the people who thought they were doing the right thing. But I’m just like, what are you doing?”

I misread it I guess. I thought he was complaining about the seven dwarfs in general

That's what it sounds like to me. He's pissed that they're making a movie with dwarfs or calling it dwarfs or something. The chick playing Snow White looks like a bulbhead and has no boobs. I can't wait until they make a Pocahontas live-action movie and cast a tranny in the lead.

She was also 14 which is a bit sus considering the Prince.
IRL Pocahontas was 12 when she married John Smith, and the Prince in Beauty and the Beast is supposed to be 15. Also the Beast and Beauty were revealed to be first cousins in the original version of the story. Aurora is 16 in Sleeping Beauty. This shit ain't out of the norm in fairy tales, is what I'm saying.

I just found a thing about age gaps in Disney films and thought it was interesting. The real Snow White news is that Peter Dinklage isn't happy with the way Disney's going about making the new film. Not sure why he thinks they live in a cave and not that nice cottage in the woods though.

I get why he feels the way he does, but I don't know how you could do it otherwise.

Pocahontas never married John Smith, she married John Rolfe when she was older.

While Peter Dinklage has a point when it comes to the progressive crowd, I still can't help but make this reference.

Haven't they always been fantasy dwarves anyhow? Hence the beards and the mine and shit? Those have been around for centuries and fantasy media generally makes it clear that they're not the same as human dwarves. All you can do is make it abundantly clear they're not short hairy humans and I think you're okay. Anyways as you said, they're integral to the story and give it it's identity.

You're right. That damn Rat scrambled my brain for a moment, sorry.
Not sure how, she didn't marry John Smith in their version either.

But they are basically short hairy humans.

Yeah but how are they not short hairy humans?

Plus you misconstruct the argument, the point is that real dwarves do exist, that they are not fantasy creatures, that they are under-represented and that this type of story is dehumanizing.
