I guess get fucked Wreck-It-Ralph, apparently your story structure was not good enough for Alternate Endings.

Sorry, Ralph was a Disney movie I genuinely hold in pretty high regard, so it is always sad to see it either get left out or shit on by Disney and its fans when it was a pretty cool and unique Disney film.
This is the first I've heard of Wreck-It Ralph being unpopular. I personally loved it and thought it was the best animated movie of the previous decade, if not the past 15 years. Is this why Ralph Breaks the Internet was such a trainwreck, to appeal to fans who didn't care about it in the first place?

Also, don't forget that John Lasseter sabotaged Chris Sanders during the production of American Dog (later Bolt), which will forever remain one of the saddest what-ifs of animation history. What if Chris got to make American Dog the way he wanted it, without Lasseter interfering? Maybe it would've been bad, maybe it would've been another Lilo & Stitch-tier masterpiece. We'll never know, because Lasseter was a control freak (for the worse this time).
Big surprise since Lasseter hated Lilo and Stitch. The studio was really suffering at the time and absolutely needed another Lilo and Stitch, but since Lasseter had a personally vendetta against that movie (and thus, it's creator) there was a zero percent chance that would happen once he got on board. Disney losing Chris Sanders was an absolute tragedy. But the world did get How to Train your Dragon, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. Kind of like how we never would've gotten the good Don Bluth movies if he hadn't quit in mid production of The Fox and the Hound.

Actually I think Disney could really use another rival in the form of a former animator like that. They were really stagnant in the 80's, but still chugging along since they were undisputed and therefore complacent even as they suffered losses. They didn't do anything to actually step up their game until Don Bluth showed up and successfully challenged them at the box office. That was when they had to finally step up their game, which led to the very brief Disney Renaissance. They need this kick in the ass again.

Wreck-It-Ralph is weird. People loved it when it came out, and it was big with Disney, but now it seems kinda forgotten/neglected. I always felt Disney really never cared much for it past launch year, and that is likely due to its unfortunate circumstance of being wedged between Tangled and the Disney cash-cow Frozen that would release a year after. After Frozen, Ralph just seemed dead, he never got the treatment of other 2010 Disney franchises such as shows, mass merchandise, Disney Park shit, etc.. It did get a sequel, but we all know how that turned out….

As for Disney fans, it just seems like negligence. Most kinda just forget it happened, and that is likely due to Frozen engulfing the damn thing only a year later. It and Winnie The Pooh have that feeling of people just forgetting they existed. It is probably why articles such as the one I commented on go off about how terrible Disney is and all except Moana/Big Hero 6 are poorly structured, when Ralph was part of the decade and really did not suffer those problems. It just lacks recognition, which is pretty sad.

Also Kingdom Hearts is pretty telling of how much they care. Every animated 2010 Disney film up till 2014’s Big Hero 6 got a world, except Ralph. Even Winnie the Pooh was there. How the fuck did they leave out the video game movie in this video game?

I feel like it could have been DreamWorks, had they not gone full Shrek with every one of their movies. Though their 2D films, much as I love them, weren't huge successes, they are least had a level of maturity or uniqueness that Disney lacked at the time. I feel like it helped challenge Disney to kick off its experimental era post-Renaissance. Nowadays though, DreamWorks mostly just does Boss Baby shit or whatever.

Another one of the saddest tragedies of animation history. A studio that went from this:

In the span of 20 years. Feels bad man. *sigh*

Ralph did show up as a summon in KH3, but I went through the entirety of the game without using summons so I forgot he was there at all.

It is pretty lame though since they easily could have done something similar to how they handled Tron in KH2.

The sad part is that DreamWorks genuinely had fantastic films past the 2D stuff. I would say the late 2000s, early 2010s showed they were capable of more than Shrek with Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon being huge departures with much critical and financial success. Too bad some of the other experimental titles like Rise of The Guardians seemed to weigh them into financial trouble.

I am genuinely shocked Ralph was not a world in KH3. It has all the pieces to be perfect for a KH narrative. I mean look at the premise, a bad guy becomes good. How could they not have a plot about the darkness compelling Ralph to wreck the game worlds and bring about Turbo-Time, only for Sora to prove to the organization that by bringing Ralph the friendship and connections he desired, he became stronger. It also proves that even those with which should have dark hearts can be brought to the light as Ralph goes from villain to hero.

The plot they seemed to have for Frozen and Elsa before Disney intervention easily could have gone to Ralph as the whole point was the darkness consuming a sympathetic character and turning them against the other heroes.

Plus, let’s be honest, the world design would have been top tier with the places like Hero’s Duty, and Sugar Rush having so many unique designs for locations and enemies.

Also, this moment would have worked well in KH

This is more-or-less just for a personal reminder, but I found out The Nightmare Before Christmas is getting a sequel novel next year and I won't lie, I'm intrigued.

Summary:
Jack and Sally are "truly meant to be" ... or are they?

Sally Skellington is the official, newly-minted Pumpkin Queen after a whirlwind courtship with her true love, Jack, who Sally adores with every inch of her fabric seams -- if only she could say the same for her new role as Queen of Halloween Town. Cast into the spotlight and tasked with all sorts of queenly duties, Sally can't help but wonder if all she's done is trade her captivity under Dr. Finkelstein for a different -- albeit gilded -- cage. But when Sally and Zero accidentally uncover a long-hidden doorway to an ancient realm called Dream Town in the forest Hinterlands, she'll unknowingly set into motion a chain of sinister events that put her future as Pumpkin Queen, and the future of Halloween Town itself, into jeopardy. Can Sally discover what it means to be true to herself and save the town she's learned to call home, or will her future turn into her worst... well, nightmare?

Sounds like YA written by the lowest bidder. And all YA written within the last 10 years is shit, so this will likely be shit as well.

Yeah, the author gives me weird vibes, but from what I can tell, TNBC fans are pretty protective of the characters and will be scrutinizing how they're portrayed. I personally think the premise is intriguing, so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and take the plunge for the thread.

EDIT: wtf how do I get "keeps" from "gives" I need to stop making posts when I'm half-awake.

This gives me the same feelings I had with Enter The Florpus, where I just ask, why now? The height of The Nightmare Before Christmas’ popularity was in the late 2000s, this product feels like a good decade to late to be real. I am sure the audience is still there, but these revivals always feel off to me.

Popularity among goths or general popularity? People still love the film. It still shows all the time, Danny Elfman conducted the music live recently at the Hollywood Bowl...

This sounds like shit fanfiction.

I think one could easily say both. TNBC sort of had it’s renaissance back then. While the Hot Topic goth stuff was very much a part of it and Zim (let’s be honest), Nightmare was also used quite a bit more back then compared to now. The obvious example would be it’s pretty substantial role in Kingdom Hearts, which was likely a jumping off point to its cult status in hindsight, but it also had games. Remember when Disney released a DMC styled game in 2004 for a movie that came out in 1993, wtf was up with that? The mid-2000s was sort of a weird period for the film that, if they were going to release a book such as this, likely would have been a way more fitting period. Now, while the franchise is still loved, it really feels like an old fad at this point. The movie is fantastic, but the hype and fandom are kinda dead. It is kinda just a Disney thing that exists now, if that makes sense.

Seeing what Disney's done with movies whose fandom and hype are still "alive", there is no question that that's for the best.

oh good gods I already know I’ll have to buy this for my mom. She’s been nuts about Nightmare Before Christmas like a mall goth in 2004 since it was in theaters so if I get this for her I’ll secure my place as favorite child LMAO

Speaking of, I live in Florida and she bought me an annual pass so we go to Disney World a couple times a month if she can get reservations for us. It’s all overpriced and sanitized bullshit that stopped being fun for me at like 12 and as an adult is irritating and annoying. I’m so fucking sick of the movies, the parks, and the overpriced tat.
